I mused in my previous article whether or not Dorsey and/or Albert will both be in camp on time, what with CP’s penchant for playing hardball with first round picks. Now that he has two to deal with, it should make for an interesting and hopefully not sad couple months leading up to training camp.
A thought occurred to me, and I’m going to go on record right now and say that Glenn Dorsey will be in camp before Branden Albert. WHAT? That’s right, write it down and pin it up somewhere.
Here is my reason; We all know what Dorsey is-a two time All American defensive tackle from the tough SEC. He was chosen fifth and will command HUGE money. Brandon Albert played guard at Virginia but the Chiefs have him at the lucrative left tackle spot so far in OTA’s. So who wants to bet this will be a conversation between the Chiefs front office and Albert’s agent?
CFO– “Well it looks like Branden played guard at Virginia so we are going to pay him guard money, thank you and have a nice day.”
Albert’s Agent–”Ah, no. SHOW ME THE MONEY”
That’s all I got, not much going on. What do you guys think? Albert and Dorsey in on time, two weeks late, or Jamarcus “show me the donuts” Russell late?

I agree with you on the branden albert thing. And to go along with what you said, he was projected by some to to the chiefs at number 5 but somehow slid to number 15. I think he will want some kind of compensation for that, just like brady quinn got a year ago.
I say everyone will be in on time, (at most one week late). Why? Like never before, we are installing a new offense and going with much younger guys who need all the reps possible… All the rookies know they need the reps. Carl knows how important this draft class is to our rebuilding, and we have the room.
Additionally, recent holdouts usually lose out on their entire first year, and don’t bounce back, or lose positions, ie Brady Quinn, and/or Russell. These rookies know that.
Albert will most assuredly be in on time, and I guarantee it. He in essense is the most needed pick of the whole bunch. We will proabably do his contract before Dorsey’s.
Additionally, every rookie, every draft pick, every street free agent, whatever, KNOWS that the Chiefs offer the best possibility of breaking into the league!!!! Our summer camp will be full of energy, excitement and balls out effort.
No team in the NFL will give “Rooks” a better shot than the Chiefs!!!!!!
I am excited for the growing pains.
I won’t pretend to have any clue what’s going to happen here. I hate the rookie holdouts more than anything this time of year. Rookies that hold out until they can be signed to huge fucking contracts just piss me off.
I think all rookies in the NFL should have a maximum salary set, negotiable only after their first year or two based on performance.
I also see dorsey being signed before camp. if you remember when we drafted Ryan Sims, we didn’t sign him until the end of camp, and when he did get in he was overweight, got hurt, and missed most of the season. We all know how he turned out. I don’t think the chiefs want to make that mistake again. I iwll however make a prediction Will Franklin will be starting at WR by week 4.
Hope upon hope that at least the big four are in camp on time.
IF we are going with youth then Carl needs to get these deals done. Especially, with Albert since we are expecting him to start as a rookie on a more than questionable OL unit.
Dorsey signing late would not be a wise decision as rob pointing out about Ryan Simms. We need Dorsey in camp learning the system. We don’t have to count on him as much in year 1 as we do with Albert. I know some might disagree with that, but we are more desperate at OL right now. I still see Dorsey rotating a bunch with the DTs we have already.
I don’t see Flowers, Charles, or any others being issues.
2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks do not hold out!!!!!!!!!!!
Part of me wants to think that Carl knows what he is doing by allowing Albert to be playing at left tackle prior to being signed. I think that he would be holding his cards a little closer to the vest and not showing his intentions if he thought this would be a money issue. If he is looking at trying to save money with Albert then he would be lining up at a guard spot right now.
I think Dorsey will be signed prior to camp. It seems like he is chomping at the bit to get out there and prove himself. There are still doubters about his recovery from injury and that is feuling him.
I would truly be surprised to see Albert unsigned by the time they head to River Falls…how much have we heard about “cohesiveness of the o-line” from the power that be? Cohesiveness in the OTA’s is wasted if you can’t carry it on to camp.
Rob, that’s exactly what worries me. The Chiefs knew that bringing Sims to camp late was a big mistake (and Vermeil called Sims out for it).
You would think that would motivate Peterson to make sure picks get into camp on time. LJ’s the only one since then to come to camp on time since then, and that’s considering he publicly stated that he was taking less money because he was anxious to play (Hali is a borderliner… he was flown into camp literally hours before it started).
Derrick Johnson. Dwayne Bowe. Sims. Morris. Tait. Peterson does NOT have a good history of bringing picks to camp in time.
A few weeks ago Ryan Sims’ Dad claimed that he was warned before the Chiefs took his son that Peterson had a history of lowballing rookies. Us fans were quick to brush that off, but does anyone see any evidence to suggest that Sims’ Dad was wrong? Because the track record is clearly not good and it frightens the living hell out of me that Peterson is going to use the “Albert is a guard” card to lowball his offer.
Whoa, Jon.. as far as I know Peterson is not using the fact that Albert played guard in college as en excuse to give him less money. Even if he were, it’s not like the deal would be made public, so we wouldn’t know. Where are you getting this?
