Stripe Gripes
A couple of Bengals notes…
A.) Chris Henry will be permitted by the courts to travel to tryouts with prospective new teams. Any interest? The cost will be minimal, and if we were ever going to find a true No. 2 WR for next to nothing, this would be the time. The again, Henry is an idiot, a damn miscreant. Personally, I think he’s worse than Pacman Jones. Is he worth the gamble for the Chiefs, who still need help at wide receiver? Maybe, maybe not.
Cincinnati Bengals threatened to sue one of our blogs, Stripe Hype, citing the blog did “irreparable harm” to the franchise. Um, I think the 1,247 arrests did that, actually. Anyway, we have taken care of the suit, but that doesn’t mean we can’t voice our opinion about the matter. For a franchise struggling with an image problem, attack one of its hard-working fan bloggers and the blog’s parent company–both tireless promoters of the NFL–isn’t a very smart move. Very relevant stuff after what happened on Costas recently.

Sorry about the law suit! Hope things went well.
Chris Henry would be awesome, but, the guy has proven that he is a complete and utter idiot and I would be willing to bet he would do something stupid again. I am shocked at this man’s total lack of self control!
Sorry but, no way! (and I am the one who pushed for Pacman)
May 6th, 2008 at 4:51 pmWhy is it people want to stock our roster with thugs that can’t keep themselves clean? They make millions of freaking dollars and cant stay out of trouble.
The LAST thing you want on a team where 90% of the players have been in the league less than 3 years and have suddenly found themselve very rich is throw in some criminals to lead them astray.
I don’t care if he’s the best WR in the world, if he can’t stay out of trouble, I don’t want him anywhere need our rebuilding team.
May 6th, 2008 at 5:12 pmI agree DJ!! Hes too much of a thug for our team. Ill admit ive had my problems with the law but im not in the public spotlight and im not makin millions of dollars to catch footballs. I dont think herm or carl would put this idiot on our team.
May 6th, 2008 at 6:01 pmHell no. Keep that guy away from the Chiefs.
KC is focusing on going young and the absolute worst thing you could have is some guy like Henry for the baby Chiefs to look up to. LJ is bad enough. Please keep your troubled receivers and blog lawsuits where they belong…in Cincy…
May 6th, 2008 at 6:23 pmOn behalf of all Chiefs fans:
Chris Henry can go F^ck himself while wearing his own jersey. Stay the hell out of KC.
May 6th, 2008 at 7:15 pmoff subject sorry, i read on nfl.com that the chiefs expect TYLER THIGPIN to challenge Brodie for the starting job!!! what do we all tgink of that??
May 6th, 2008 at 8:14 pmTyler looked good to me last year
May 6th, 2008 at 8:28 pmChris Henry is not Chief material. Perhaps the Raiders can use him. If he could serve some prison time, he would fit right in over there.
May 6th, 2008 at 8:55 pmChris Henery when out of trouble and clean would be a good pick up. We don’t even know if he will be playing at all this coming season. He missed 8 games last year and now with a new run into with the law. Hes a good recieve but needs to stay out of trouble and stay on the field.

On the Bengals blog situation - Adam kudos for handling things the right way. I agree with David that the allegations were straight bullsh*t and don’t blame him for his hatred of the team. At the same time, you have to see things in the bigger picture.
Even though they’re probably wrong, the Bengals surely have a mountain of lawyers to fight this with. They could drag the issue out for years and potentially put this whole network under.
Good luck to Dave in his battle with them, but Adam and Zach - I think you took the best route for the interest of everyone else here. I would hate to see AA go down just because someone decided to get into an unwinnable and costly (though justified) fight with a franchise. Thank you.
May 7th, 2008 at 4:40 pmnot worth the risk, Id risk it for Pac, but I thought he was the best cb in the league before he got kicked out.
May 8th, 2008 at 8:47 amI used to live in Cincinnati. Here’s the take on Chris Henry: he’s actually a good locker room guy, but it’s a stretch to think that he can keep himself out of trouble. Like Pac-man, he’s a guy that never learns his lesson. This guy was given more second chances than we even realize.
I think my main hatred for Henry came after he was suspended for half a season and he made the claim that if fans didn’t support him after he came back, they weren’t real fans. But look at the history after that. The feeling is that 8 games of missed football games would motivate you to clean up your act, right?
Wrong. He was accused of assaulting a valet guy at a parking lot a few months later (don’t know what came of this). He was accused of two other infractions that he was later found innocent for. The point being… there were 3 incidents where Henry should have been scared straight. But he was still stupid.
Some people change, but there is just way too much history to believe Henry can change.
May 9th, 2008 at 8:30 amFuck Chris Henry.
I do wish the Chiefs would look seriously at Chad Johnson though (if the Bengals don’t end up re-signing him). I know some people would be against him coming to KC but I don’t mind a little personality and passion in my players. It’s not like it affects his playing.
May 10th, 2008 at 7:12 pmHe doesn’t want to come to the Chiefs, that’s the main deal with Chad Johnson. He either wants to be on a contending team (the Chiefs are certainly not there; YET!) or go back to Miami (where he has a home, and played in college.) Otherwise I’d be all for offering Chad all kinds of incentives to play for us, but it just won’t happen. Chris Henry, on the other hand, could happen. I say give the kid a chance. Yes, I’ll get flamed for that, but hear me out. He’s a legitimate number 2 deep threat guy, he’s a proven guy ON THE FIELD. It’s his off the field BS that is the drama. So all we gotta do is add clauses in his contract that if he F’s up even one single more time, we take back almost all of his money, sever his contract immediately, boot him off the team, (which would basically kick him out of the NFL for good) and send him on his merry way, to a prison where he belongs. But until that happens; we A. Get a quality receiver, and get him cheap. B. Cover our own asses in case it does happen, and C. Provide him with a change in scenery, which may do him alot of good. If he was a clean receiver, I’d be thrilled to add him, and with Herm mentoring, his contract depending on his actions, and everyone already watching him due to his past, I think he would actually go straight. Go ahead and burst that bubble before it grows too large, lol.
