Jake Officially…GONE

Looks like the Dolphins have made their real intentions known (and boy was I wrong)…they have agreed to terms with Jake Long.  Excuse me while a cry like a little baby. ESPN story link here.

43 Comments on Jake Officially…GONE

  1. Zach says:

I tried warning you all a long long time ago… I was at least right about one thing.

  2. CWebb says:

Well, I just want to be the first to wish him a short long and utter bust of a productive career with many knee-injuries Pro-Bowl appearances.

    -a bitter cw

  3. Stevenh says:

Amen CWebb…amen. He receives less money, but also one year shorter than Russell did last year. I guess my mock is off to a bad start. IF the Chiefs trade Allen to Minny or anybody else, it looks like they might go with DLineman.

  4. Dave says:

Well you can dial up Dorsey for the Rams now – rumor was that Jake Long was their #1 and Dorsey is the #2

I guess then you would have to put Matt Ryan to the Falcons because they want Dorsey first then Ryan

    Then you get the Raiders?

  5. Stevenh says:

I look for the Rams to take Chris Long. They took DT last year, I doubt they do it again. Plus, Little is getting a little old and a little slow.

  6. Adam says:

The Rams will also be very interested in Gholsten, and have already been, for that matter. Also, don’t count out someone trading up to get Ryan, now that it looks like the Falcons will pick him. Baltimore or the Jets are possibilities, as are other teams.

  7. Dave says:

The Rams love Dorsey – they always have…your right that C. Long is a real possibility….I just really feel like it will be the Big Man in the Middle!

  8. Dave says:

Adam – I have been hearing that the Saints have tried to move up to get Dorsey in either the #2 or #3 spot and the Falcons were willing to listen but the Rams would not even consider it….they are in love with someone….my bet is Dorsey

  9. Dave says:

I would be really interested to see what the Raiders would do if Chris Long, Gholston, and McFadden were all on the board?

  10. Michael San Diego says:

I would take Chris Long if he was there. Great player that comes from a great player. Howie was one of the few Raiders I wished we had. Of course our guys during his time on the field weren’t that bad either!

  11. Stevenh says:

I still feel that the Raiders can’t and won’t pass on DMac, Al won’t be able to stand it.

  12. Adam says:

If the Raiders buy into the Howie hype that would be fine by me. That would put Run DMC there, giving us a host of trade possibilities. By the way, what a shocker it would be if we took McFadden. With extra picks it would make some sense, because it would prolong the career of our biggest investment and help him last throughout the entire rebuilding process. The scenario is doubtful, but I would be happy with it.

I have heard that about the Saints, too.

  13. Stevenh says:

I agree Adam, if McFadden fall to #5 and Ryan is still there, the Chiefs should be able to trade back. Surely there would be some suitors for those two.

  14. Dave says:

Adam – have you heard the rumor about the Falcons

Two teams have contacted them about trading – 1st team was the Saints (as we have already talked about)
2nd team is the Ravens – If Dorsey is not on the Board then your boy will be picked either by the Falcons or the Ravens

  15. Dave says:

Here is what I am thinking

    Miami has taken Jake Long

    St Louis takes Glen Dorsey

Atlanta (who wanted Dorsey) trades down with Baltimore to the #8 and Baltimore takes Matt Ryan

Atlanta is then looking to take Ellis before Cincy and the Saints

When the Saints or Cincy realize this they work a trade with either the Chiefs or the Patriots to get ahead of the Falcons

This could get crazy – but history says trades rarely happen

  16. Crane says:

I don’t know why everyone is sold on STL taking Dorsey. They have huge problems at DE…3.5 sacks last year. I don’t see how they pass on Long.

  17. Crane says:

Also, did anyone else hear about The REDSKINS offering two 1st’s for Ocho Cinco? The Bengals turned it down. They must be out of their minds.

  18. Porter Park says:

Crane- that is crazy, no player is worth 2 first sans Brady or Manning

  19. Porter Park says:

Crane- that is crazy, no player is worth 2 first sans Brady or Manningl… in short i dont believe that for 1 second

  20. ROC27 says:

As much as THIS ONE hurts (me being a Michigan fan and all), looking on the bright side. . . its look a lot more possible that we have a shot at Chris Long. I say if we go through with the Jared Allen trade, in which we should to pick up Albert, Otah, OR Williams, we should either pickup Long, Gholston, or (ready?) Run DMC. Like it was said, we CAN with those extra picks.

  21. MasterBlaster says:

Hu. I really thought the Dolphins were gona go Chris Long. Doesnt really matter though. I absolutely knew he wasnt gona fall all the way to us. The possibility of chris long falling to us is interesting. If we could get a 1st and 2nd from the vikings for JA then geting a top DE with 4 more years on his motor wouldnt be so bad. One thing I have learned from all of this. Mock drafts written up 1 week before the real draft are COMPLETELY WORTHLESS haha;)

  22. ROC27 says:

If Long (the ONLY Long left) is taken at #2, Atl will probably take Dorsey, UNLESS they cant refuse a trade from Baltimore. Then the Ravens would take Ryan, THEN Im worried. . . Worried that Chokeland takes Dorsey over DMC. BUT IF that DOES happen, we dangle DMC towards Jerry Jones and snatch there 2 picks, including Minnesota’s #17. Then we can get 2 O Linemen, and maybe DRC.

  23. MasterBlaster says:

Oh, I said that wrong. All drafts “older” than 1 wee before the real draft are COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. There thats better:)

  24. ROC27 says:

UNLESS we keep McFadden all to ourselves. . . . which WOULDNT be too shabby either. I LOVE the reasoning behind it too.

  25. ROC27 says:

Wow, its been said before, but we could REALLY end up the winners of the ‘08 Draft. . . . (the though of Chris Long in a Chiefs uniform is wild)

  26. JPSPOOTY says:

I haven`t even given any thought to Chris Long being a Chief . Because all of the draft experts said he would be gone in the first three…

  27. ROC27 says:

SHIT!!! Arrowhead Pride reports that Philli offered Lito and draft picks, but NOT their 1st round pick! So CLOSE YET SO FAR! C’MON PHILLI!!! Just give us that 1st and Lito! Id be happy with that . . . . and maybe a 3rd rounder.

  28. ROC27 says:

Then THAT WAY we can use BOTH 1st 3 picks on Chris Long, Dorsey, or Gholston And 2 O Linemen, with Lito on the roster!

  29. ROC27 says:

Woops. I meant “we can use OUR 1st 3 picks”. . . . Sorry. My mind is going crazy with the latest news.

  30. Dave says:

Dont get greedy ROC – if they offer Lito and the 1st this year I would run to the bank! We don’t need to hold out for a third!

That scenario would almost be to good to be true – the #5 pick, the #15, and Lito Shepherd (a proven Player)

  31. ROC27 says:

Oh. Davey Boy! Nah. Im on board with YOU, BUT is Herm, Carl, and Bill?? I doubt it. Im thinking they want everything that Jared is worth in return, and I dont think that their 1st and Lito equals to Jared’s point value. . . Though I WOULD be EXTREMELY ecstatic with their 1st and Lito.

  32. ROC27 says:

I dont know, but if Im the Eagles, I fess up (and not cause in reality, Im simply a Chiefs fan but) because for a 1st round pick they’d be getting rid of a disgruntled player, have no D Line and would be getting arguably the BESt DE in the league right now. Theyre stupid if they dont.

  33. Dave says:

by the way I meant to say the eagles pick #19

  34. jay says:

As for Lito, why get a player that can’t play a full season? That doesn’t solve the Corner problem, it just creates a question mark at corner. I don’t like it.

  35. Dave says:

    You can’t be serious jay

If you are King Carl and you had to get rid of Jared Allen for what you could before he either commanded Dwight Freeney type money or would potentially walk away for free after being franchised – are you seriously telling me that if Philly offered you their 1st round pick #19 overall and a 2 time Pro Bowl Corner (which by the way is a need for us) that you would say no because he has had some injuries.

So I guess you wouldn’t wan’t McNabb either – or Shockey – or Clinton Portis – ect. ect. ect.

    Damn………I just don’t get it – Damn.

  36. Red Dragon says:

I definitely would not want McNabb…I could be talked into Shockey because I like his mean streak (Can you imagine TG, Bowe and Shockey????) That would be cold. I am a big fan of Portis, but he is pretty darn good.

You got me going now…didn’t the Giants state publicly they are trying to trade Shockey? We should be all over that. Send them our 4th rounder and call it a deal (or even our MIN 3rd that we get – if his price is higher). Imagine how that would simultaneously improve our passing game and our running game (assuming an improvement on the OL). Trade for Shockey and draft a WR in the 3rd, FB in the 5th. Address OL, CB, and DT with the remaining picks.

  37. jay says:

I am very serious Dave. McNabb, Shockey, and Portis are irrelevant, its case by case. Lito Sheppard in his last three seasons has played only 70% of the schedule, not including playoffs. What makes you think that a guy at age 27 with an injury in five of his six seasons is somehow going to kick all those injuries and come out and perform for three years without a problem. Its a really bad gamble counting on a guy who can’t stay on the field. All Pro-Bowlers suck when they have a cast on their leg.

Just for fun, no to McNabb, he’s an old crybaby. Maybe to Shockey, although I think he’d likely be a distraction and he doesn’t really fill a need as TG likely has two or three more years. Portis, again no, we have a running back, we need a line.

  38. ROC27 says:

Well… I’ve ALWAYS liked Lito Sheppard. He’s Always found a way to impress not just me (hence to 2 Pro Bowls). I WOULD MOST DEFINITELY jump all over that trade if its on the table. Granted he’s had his fair share of injuries. Hey it happens… Ask just about every guy who graced to cover of Madden. Hahaha! But REALLY LJ got hurt, missed 50% of the season, McIntosh has a history of injuries and yet people are STILL slotting him in as our RT (if not LT),yet we’re not shittin’ them him over it. Injuries happen, and if you ask me… getting such a player to the likes of Lito Sheppard, I would take that risk BECAUSE when he IS healthy, he IS great.

And as far as the other scenerio players (which is a slim to none chance that any of that happens)… I would be looking at Shockey with the most interest. Why? No, not cause I would be pumped to pair up Gonzo and Shockey. But because we’re gonna need to find a successor to T.G.’s throne pretty soon. And quite frankly, that crown isnt going on anyone’s head named ‘Michael Allen’. Im sorry, but its not. And Jeremey would give us that blue collar work that we could take advantage of and use.

  39. ROC27 says:

lots of corrections need to made in that, but you get my point.

  40. jason says:

i was on who dat dish yesterday, they were all over shockey. i dont see it in him. the guy seems like a REAL asshole. hes got that “THE U” im better than everyone mentality. and thats fine if you put up, but has he really?

  41. ROC27 says:

Dang “The U” HAS produced to fine players though. You gotta admit that.

  42. jason says:

youre right roc, but most of them have a shity attitude. shockey, im a soldier(winslow) crazy ass(portis)actually portis is funny but REALLY weird.
