Arrowhead Addict War Room: Reader's Edition

by Draft

A.A. War Room

Here are the four guys who were randomly drawn out of a hat for the four picks in front of us (Miami Dolphins, St. Louis Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders):

  • Darren McFadden
  • Jake Long
  • Matt Ryan
  • Vernon Gholsten

To get the exact order and how things shook out, head over to Arrowhead Addict Radio and listen to the War Room podcast featuring Zach and I. Remember, the order isn’t as important as randomly simulating who will and won’t be there out of the elite players when the Chiefs pick at No. 5. FYI, the exercise’s validity was displayed this morning when the Fish made a deal with Big Jake. These four guys could definitely be off the board.

Now, as the Arrowhead Addict staff frantically e-mails back and forth in our War Room and decides who we will pick, it’s time for you to do the same. There are two stipulations: A.) No team is on the phone offering a trade–the line is dead; B.) Jared Allen has been traded and we added another first rounder (either No. 17 or 20). Go ahead and make your voice heard amongst your fellow Chiefs fans in the comment thread, and vote wisely!

Which Chiefs WR will have more receiving yards in 2012?

Roc, your scenario of Long, Dorsey, Gholston is definately a Chiefs fan's worst nightmare. I liked Ellis at 5, up until we opened a glaring hole at DE. Ah hell, let's just take Ellis at 5, then switch to a 3-4, with Tank, Turk, and Ellis on the line, and wait for next years #1 overall pick to fall in our laps.

Roc, then we take Matt Ryan, followed by Derrick Harvey, followed by Sam Baker. Problem solved. We don't have to take Long or Gholsten at all, especially with Turk. This is why we drafted him.

I mean, that my be a stupid question... but we REALLY need to make sure that we get a guy with as much presence if not more than what Allen had. Cause (since this is the war room, we SHOULD talk possibilities) WHAT IF St. Louis gets Chris Long, Atlanta taks Glenn Dorsey, and Oakland takes Gholston... Then we're on the outside, unless we're happy with Ellis

Ok! So now, we ACTUALLY have something to work with... With Jared out the door, I have a question... We're REALLY gonna need to fill his spot... Obviously with either Chris Long, Vernon Gholston, or use Turk and fill the middle with Glenn Dorsey... Do we use 1 or 2 of our later picks to move up and sure ourselves of being able to take Chris Long or Dorsey??

It just came across. Minn 1st and BOTH 3rds.

Breaking News: Schefter says that the Allen deal is done, and Chiefs have agreed on compensation. No word on what it is. It's on the banner at NFL.com

also if we are actuallt picking at 5 i say chris long(i was totally against him, daddy a faider, but if we trade jared, which is part of this scenario, he seems to be the most like him)

Rule #1 - Don't reach.

Rule #2 - Don't believe all the rumors. (But isn't anyone concerned about Dorsey's health? Heard there were knee concerns...)

Rule #3 - Go with lineage and character - that would be Chris Long.

If trade happens, then there's gonna be a fine OT available at #17

arrowhead pride says look out for us to trade down with new orleans, THAT WOULD SET US UP REAL GOOD TO GO DRC!!!!!!! whatcha think? would that make the papa dont reach crowd happy. i mean if clongs gone im all for this

Im gonna say that our board of priority looks like this....

1) Chris Long

2) Glenn Dorsey

3) Trade talk for Run DMC/Matt Ryan

4) Darren McFadden

5) Sedrick Ellis

This is a tight one. It's your board, so I won't chime in :) Stay tuned...

But LETS ALSO say that St.Louis takes Chris Long and Atlanta takes Glenn Dorsey (or vice versa)... Then I am TOTALLY against taking Matt Ryan. In different circumstances, I'd be ok with picking him. But NOT with Run DMC and Sedrick Ellis in front of us. I would be pleased with drafting Ellis,I WOULD be very pleased with drafting McFadden, and would ALSO like to see the opportunities we'd have with taking up any team on a trade for the #5 pick. I dont care who they want, what matters is what WE get. (preferably Dallas' 2 1st rounders... if Jerry wants DMC THAT bad.)

i voted DRC and was shocked that i wasnt the 1st one to do so

Very true Larry. I swear I'll puke if we take Matt Ryan. ESPECIALLY with Jared on his way out the door. But we really need to see how this pans out guys. So LETS SAY that the Rams take Dorsey, then as its been metioned Atlanta may take Ryan... THAT IS if they DONT trade with Baltimore. Be either way, Matt Ryan will more than likely be taken 3rd. Then we have the Howie Long Hype. Howie just MAY be whispering in the ear of Al Davis, while he's sharting on himself trying to think of whether he should take Howie's son or the kid from Arkansas. Now if Al makes DMC a Raider, then no question, we take Chris Long and pit him against his Father in history. BUT IF Long follows the family line and becomes a Raider, then we got ourselves a little dilema.... Do we trade McFadden? Or do we keep him to ourselves?

I gotta say, I'm hoping to hell that Ryan is gone by the time we pick. The only good thing that could come with him still being there is having someone trade with us to get him. If he was a "franchise" QB, that can't miss dude, Miami would have taken him without blinking an eye. With our highest pick since '89, this is our chance to select one of the true blue chippers in the draft, and there's an argument for Dorsey, J. Long, C. Long, McFadden, and even Gholsten to go #1, but not Ryan.

Come Saturday, I'll be praying St. Louis takes Dorsey, leaving Atlanta with no choice but to take Ryan, seeing as how that's the two guys they have rated highest on their boards.

This is one pick we CANNOT afford to reach on, if C. Long is there, you gotta pull the trigger. A stacked defensive line seemed to do o.k. for the Giants.

So much for getting Jake Long their cheif... But if this Jared Allen trade does go done and I have to admit I have mixed feelings about it because Jared is one of my favorite players and he belongs in a chiefs uniform, but if the Cheifs can get a first and a third round pick from the Vikings I wouldn't be upset about the trade because we could pick one of my favorite players in the draft which is Chris Long, this guy is a professional all the way around. You can actually understand what he says in interviews unlike Darren McFadden. But the chiefs have tons of options, if Matt Ryan is still there they can trade their pick to Baltimore and maybe even get another pick, but I want them to take Chris Long and then get a solid offensive Linemen with the 17th pick. But being I'm a huge cheif fan that lives in Michigan I get to go to a lot of Michigan football games and I hope they draft my boy Chad Henne in the second round to put behind Brodie to light a little fire under his ass. But one of the biggest steals of the draft is gonna be Mike Hart running back out of Michigan whoever gets him is going to have one hell of a player.

I say if dorsey is gone I don't think that Ryan will be the pick if allen gets traded...Dorsey, Long or Gholsten or Ellis will be there and if i were the chiefs I would take theb est player available and all of the above are better football players than MAtt Ryan at this point, and i am not a believer of drafting a QB when it is the O-line that is the weak link at this time he would be in the same situation as Croyle and would not do much better, no If ryan is the pick i will be pissed

"Saturday can't get here soon enough" Indeed!

I wouldn't bitch if we took Long...and according to my own projection of Long to Rams and Dorsey to the Falcons...I'm afraid I might have to get used to the idea of Matt Ryan. I do hope we trade with Baltimore and take B Albert. Then all the Croyle people will have to swallow real hard and brace themselves. Saturday can't get here soon enough.

thats exactly what i was thinkin..we have a guy who can do JA's job..not as good but he can fill the spot..and adding Dorsey will get us a huge push up front through the line

Dorsey. I doubt he falls to us, but he is a MUST grab if available. Turk and Tamba can provide the DE bookends, with Tank/Boone and Dorsey in the middle. We would be unloading the NFL's sack leader and upgrading to the best front four all at the same time. It's a win-win.

I picked C. Long.

I can also make an argument for Dorsey, but Long fills a bigger need. With the second, first rounder we still take the best available player, either an o-lineman or a DB. If we go DB, the Chiefs should still be able to get a good quality O-lineman in the second round

I'm with the majority here. Chris Long and an OT later. No brainer.

I really really dont think Dorsey makes it down to the five spot. I wish he would but he wont.

Going with the JA trade scenario, I'd have to give the nod to Chris Long here. The second pick would be best player available (i.e. if by some freak accident Sedrick Ellis or some other top talent catches "Brady Quinn" syndrome) or most likely, the top OL, probably Brandon Albert.

Allen out, Chris Long and another 1 first round pick in; thank you Minneasota

I don't think there is any way for Chris Long to be a bust. He is a PERFECT fit for us if Allen is gone. We can get a nice LT like Otah with no. 17. That would work out very nicely for us. I would almost prefer Gholston, though.

As for the next pick... doesn't look like it now, but I think one of those top lineman prospects will be sitting there at 17. Albert or Otah maybe?

We have a starter at End with Tamba, and according to HermCarl an incumbent in Turk. So, drafting a could be bust in the same position we just unloaded a sure fire contributor at would I think be at best, treading water. There is no progress there, because with or without JA our need at DE is non-existent. So let's go with the highest talent available who also happens to fill what I think is our 3rd highest need. Dorsey can become a cornerstone for our front seven for years to come.

to clarify myself..im sayin with the 2nd 1st rounder

im goin with dorsey..then with the 2nd we grab williams..we get the top defensive man in the whole draft and we pick up according to some..an even better OT than J Long..i dont know if its true but ive heard it alot

I am blown away how many people would pass on a true defensive talent to reach for a OT....I realize we need Oline in the worst way, but come on.

Picked Chris Long, with Allen gone, have to go DE. Go OT with second first rounder, Otah, Williams, Albert.

Harvey won't make it to 17.

I would still take Dorsey even if we trade Jared Allen. Not that I would hate having Chris Long since he seems to be a high-motor Jared Allen type player. Defensive tackles like Dorsey only come around every once in a while, he reminds me a lot of Warren Sapp. Able to provide pass rush while stopping the run. This also gives us the ability to maybe get Derrick Harvey with the 17th or 20th pick if our tackle (at that value) isn't there. Then we could start drafting O-line with the second round pick (Sam Baker?). It would make the loss of Jared a little more bearable if we could have a line of Dorsey, Harvey, Tank (or Boone), and Tamba.

If the Jared Allen trade is a done deal, I think the Chiefs have to pick either Chris Long or Glen Dorsey. If the trade is with Minnesota and the Chiefs also wind up with the overall number 17 pick. The Chiefs take the best available offensive lineman hopefully (oh please let it happen) Branden Albert from Virginia.

Alright - who in the @#! voted Clady

Is RedBeard back?
