Oh yeah Mitch...that's really easy to find Jared Allen in the 4th round. *snicker*

This is really easy. Just find another Jared Allen in the fourth round. Then we'll have added a free first and two thirds. Maybe Turk is already the next big time DE and he just needs more experience.

Everyone relax, there is no need to panic and draft a DE with either one of our first round selections. DONT forget that Carl drafted McBride and Tyler last year, I think he actually did something correct and foresaw this situation with Jared so he drafted two players that can come in and start. McBride has shown his talent and he and Hali will be the starting Ends with Boone, Tyler, and Edwars rotating the middle. At pick 5 we take the best player available or trade down to the Saints who would be inclined to trade up to 5 to get Sedrick Ellis. We wither take Ellis or take the Saints deal and most likely acquire another 3rd and 4th. With the second pick in round 1 we take the best available OL or CB depending on who the chiefs have ranked higher. If McFadden is there do you take him?

I am officially happy about this. There's no way I would have given him that kind of money. This is what's best for the team. Life goes on.

Hey Guys:

If you are Chiefs fans and want to smile, check out Draft Teks' latest 7 round simulation, updated to reflect both Jake Long going to Miami and our trade with Minnesota (except for the undisclosed swap of certain 6th round draft picks). Don't get hung up on the precise picks, because the Chiefs' and other teams' Boards will all be different from Draft Teks' single composite player list. But it is a great illustration of what the Chiefs might be able to accomplish with their 13 picks in this draft, EVEN WTTHOUT ANY FURTHER TRADING UP OR DOWN using their embarrassment of draft pick riches. Focus especially on the first 9 picks in Rounds 1-5 and think about how many should be serious competition for starting positions at some point during the course of the 2008 season--all 9 maybe?

Jon Y, your Allen trade analysis is ok as far as it goes. The problem is that it does not, in fact cannot, take into account the domino effect of these 3 extra picks on the quality of the other 10; the Draft Tek simulation does. Moreover, even the Draft Tek simulation does not take into account the Chiefs' geometrically improved flexibility to jockey for position to get the players they really want (or more picks for this year and next). Think about the child's puzzle where you are trying to move the tiles around from a jumble to make a picture and you only have 1 open space (degree of freedom) to work with. Each additional space (degree of freedom) you have to work with makes the puzzle dramatically easier to solve. Not a perfect analogy, but it illustrates the point.

Enjoy Saturday and Sunday everybody. I know I will!

Jake, those are good thoughts. But I think a bit too optimistic.

I would be stunned if Albert is available at #17. And while Long could fall to #5, it might not happen either. I'm beginning to think your only real choice is to draft Ellis (do not agree at all with drafting either Ryan or Gholston).

The best thing you can do is to trade down, to be honest, but then... picking at #5 might be the only opportunity to make our defensive line somewhat respectable after the huge loss.

So first off i'm happy with the trade.

number 5 we need Glen Dorsey over Chris Long, Chris Long over Gholston if they're there. I'm pretty sure the Raiders don't let Chris slip away since they'd love to have a Howie Jr. Ideally we trade down for a mid range 1st rounder and maybe a 2nd rounder to go along with it, but i doubt it...

number 17 we use on Albert... hopefully we don't get a Clady instead, not my favorite...

i'm hoping that there aren't any WRs and minimal DBs taken in the first, leaving maybe a chance to trade up for a Rodgers Cromartie, who is my favorite DB in the draft... maybe Flowers. At WR i'd love to see the chiefs wind up with Limas Sweed somehow, but i dunno... seems like a stretch.

hopefully the chiefs have gotten themselves into a situation where they can relax and take the best players available rather than painstakingly weigh needs and cross examine talent... i think it's obvious now that we have plenty of holes, but all of a sudden we have a lot of the picks we need to fill them in, this is definitely the chiefs' biggest draft since '89 and i'm excited...
