Chiefs Sign An Offensive Lineman

AA FA UpdateThanks to Chiefs Planet and Arrowhead Pride for breaking this story:

Wade Smith (6-4, 296) has worked primarily at tackle during his NFL career, but is expected to compete at center with Kansas City. He played in 14 games as a reserve offensive lineman and on special teams for the N.Y. Jets in 2007. He spent two seasons (2006-07) with the Jets, appearing in 23 contests. The sixth-year pro has seen action in 45 games, opening 18 contests at left tackle. Prior to joining the Jets, Smith spent three campaigns (2003-05) with Miami after entering the NFL as a third-round draft choice (78th overall) of the Dolphins in 2003.

Smith started all 16 games at left tackle for the Dolphins as a rookie, earning consensus all-rookie honors. He joined tackles Richmond Webb and Todd Wade as only the third rookie tackle in franchise history to open all 16 games. Smith spent the entire 2005 campaign on injured reserve with Miami after suffering a forearm injury in training camp. He attended camp with the Dolphins in 2006, but was released prior to the start of the regular season. The Memphis product was a four-year letterman and two-year starter at left tackle for the Tigers. Smith was named second-team All-Conference USA as a senior. He led Lake Highland High School of Lake Highland, Texas to the regional title in ‘98.

I am finally a tad bit satisfied that the Chiefs have signed an offensive lineman. As everyone knows I have been begging the Chiefs to bring in someone to help rebuild this unit. Unfortunately, it wasn’t Jeff Faine or Justin Hartwig, but this will do for now. Although I am bit scared with his injury history and why he couldn’t make the Dolphins squad last year considering how bad their OL was.

(By the way, I hope you have checked out the new Arrowhead Pride. UNREAL! Good work, Chris Thorman…)

    What’s his first name?

    -cw

  2. 2. Zach Says:

I am sorry its Wade Smith…

  3. 3. Taylor Says:

warpaint illustrated has an article that says the vikings are increasing their offer for jared allen, but you have to be a member of the site to read it, does anyone know what it says?????????

  4. 4. BAS Says:

Chifsplanet has posted the details of the increased offer. The report: 1st and 3rd in 08, 2nd in 09. Seems like a pretty good deal, though we don’t know which 3rd.

  5. 5. JPSPOOTY Says:

If that is the first of the two third rounders , I dont think anyone will give the Chiefs a better offer…

  6. 6. bannyc9 Says:

That sounds fine to me. That gives us all kind of trading power if there was a guy we felt we needed to jump up and get.

  7. 7. Jeremy (Riverside, CA) Says:

First, this Wade signing does not impress me. I hope he does.

Second, if it is true that the Vikings offered a 1st and 3rd this year and a 2nd next year, then trade him now!!!!!!!!!!

  8. 8. Dave Says:

I think we need a poll question on whether or not AA readers would pull the trigger on this deal

  9. 9. jay Says:

Does the signing of Wade mean the Boycott is over?!? I think he meets the prerequisite to end the 144 man march.

  10. 10. Crane Says:

Wade Who? Hell no it isn’t over.

  11. 11. jay Says:

Then you should have set the criteria differently. According to the post you guys wanted a warm body with starting experience. The Chiefs have met your demands, your movement worked, pop the cork, Champagne for everyone. Its powerful seeing democracy in action!!!

  12. 12. Crane Says:

I’d like Zach and A to weigh in, I’ll wait til after the draft to pass judgement…but as far as I’m concerned, its still on. Max Starks just re-signed with Pitt for 1 year btw.

  13. 13. Crane Says:

leave it to us to try to make a Tackle a center too btw.

  14. 14. Ian Brennan Says:

Well he will probably comepete for the center spot or the right tackle spot….i really hope Niswanger wins the center spot and that we sign Shane Olivea to play Right tackle and draft a guard and a tackle to compete to start

  15. 15. Double D Says:

I’d rather have a 1st & 2nd round pick this year with a 3rd round next year. Next year’s 2nd round Vikings pick could easily be little better than a 3rd round pick.

  16. 16. Ian Brennan Says:

If we got a 1st and a 2nd i don’t think we would get a pick next next year. but if we gota 1st and a 3rd i think we should get a pick next year…. If get a fist we shoukld pick Gholsten or Long and then pick OTah or Clady with iour second first round pick…. Then in the second pick Brandon Flowers. and if we get a second second rounder we can pick up Early Docet and the Brandon FLowers or thats at least how i would do it

  17. 17. Crane Says:

If we sign Olivea I’ll call the strike off and streak at the first home game. If that mascot even tries to tackle me, I’ll drop kick him in the chest.
