Carl Speaks…

AUTHOR: Blog Z | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 48 Comments

Here is what King Queen Carl has to say about the possibility of trading Jared Allen:

“We will confirm that we have been in conversation with a few teams regarding the possibility of acquiring Jared Allen’s contractual rights. Any potential agreement would be contingent on the Chiefs receiving appropriate compensation and Jared’s representative reaching a contract agreement.

“Jared is not an exclusive franchise player. Therefore, based on the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, he has the right to visit and negotiate with other teams. However, for any trade to be completed, the Chiefs would need to reach an agreement on compensation. At this point, all of these discussions are preliminary.”

Wow. . . THIS IS HUGE! We can look at this in 2 different light. . . 1. Its no secret, we ALL love Jared. He is such a great talent and a hell of a guy. His performance 2007 was 1 that will be remembered a long time to come. This would be a huge bummer. . . and somewhat of a loss.

  2. ROC27 says:

But on the 2nd hand and REALLY a more promising point of view, we could trade Jared, and pickup either Gholston or Chris Long (preferably), with whom with would be the perfect replacement for Allen. AND not to mention having 2 more draft picks to develope our O Line and our DB issue… We can grab Gholston and possibly Otah if Albert is off the board. Then in the 2nd take a G and CB… Makes sense.

  3. Zach says:

Still think we are going to be 11-5?

  4. ROC27 says:

WOAH-HO-HO!! Hey now! I NEVER said we’d be 11-5… I simply thought (think) we’d do a little better than 5-11. 6-10. Maybe lucky game or 2, to make it 7-9 or 8-8. But NOT 11-5. No Way! . . . Im ALSO realistic.

  5. ROC27 says:

But in all honesty, Zach. . . As much as I love the One Man Gang… A trade like this COULD help us get to .500 w/ the quality player we’d be able to steal in the draft.

    20FoxKC Says:

    11-5!!!! You just wait!!!

    here’s your 11-5 guy

  7. ROC27 says:

Man, I wont count on it, but 11-5 would be AMAZING!

  8. ROC27 says:

And to do that with PURE KC CHIEF BLOOD! Wow.

  9. ComeSackMyQB says:

yea..i still say it will be around .500..thats as far out as my neck is willing to stretch

  10. Ken says:

I was one that called an 11-5 season. I’m not about to guarantee it or anything, but I think its far more likely that KC goes 11-5 than 5-11. And I make no qualms about saying this team will be at least .500.

And not only does that prediction hold true if we trade Allen for picks this year (note: I say this year), I think it improves this team both now and in the future, providing the trade only occurs on draft day if Long or Gholston are available AND Dorsey is off the board. If Dorsey is on the board when we pick at five, he is a MUST TAKE, and he will be the best player on our D-Line immediately (yes, better than Jared) and then we keep Jared and lock him up after the draft picks are signed. Look, I’m a big Jared Allen fan too, and I wish the guy success whereever he goes (except when he lines up opposite the Chiefs). But I’m not a Jared Allen fan first, I’m a Kansas City Chiefs fan first. And I’m willing to do whatever makes the TEAM better. I understand some of you disagree that this makes the team better, but a lot of fans wanna keep Jared’s whopping 2 second half sacks because they like the mullet and the jokester personality. But you know what, the Chiefs haven’t won a damn playoff game since 1993, and I could care less how friendly or funny the guy is, I’d rather get a ring with robots than miss the playoffs with comedians.

  11. jay says:

Arrowhead pride says TB is offering us their first rounder this year, a fifth rounder next year and maybe Jovan Haye. If Jovan Haye is in the deal, I say do it. He’s not as good as JA, but he’s still pretty good, and is only in his second year. Then you have a solid DE that you could likely sign long term, and another pick, so you don’t have to waste the pick you get on a replacement for the guy you lost. This is the only way it makes sense to me. If you trade him for a 1st and 2nd rounder you are just getting one pick because you have to burn one on his replacement, a replacement that will likely never be as good.

  12. ROC27 says:

Ken! Youre killin’ it lately! Great comments, man! Im on the same page. Im RIGHT THERE with you. I TOO think we’re more likely to go 11-5 THAN 5-11… Also, I feel pretty much the same on the Jared Allen trade issue… But look at it this way people. Chris Long sacks a QB or knocks out a RB 3 yards behing the line, and he gets up. What does he do? He intensely puts his right fist to his left elbow, forming an ‘L’ (for Long)… What does Jared do? Wrangles invisable cattle. . . The jokes are over boys. Lets get down to business.

  13. ROC27 says:

    Spell check: behind.

  14. Ken says:

Let’s not forget how awesome it would be to see the son of a Raider tackling Darren McFailure (wearing his silver and black jersey) in the backfield.

  15. Sounds like the more we talk about it, the more we like the trade! First denial, then anger, then acceptance. LOL. I say trade with Tampa, take thier first, Jovan Haye, and a 3rd. The Vikings first and second sounds good but only if we get this years second.

  16. Crane says:

Some of you guys need to remember he led the league in sacks with 15.5!!! We better get a helluva deal!
Why not trade him for DeMarcus Ware and their two first rounders and they pick DMC at 5? Everyone wins!

  17. Crane says:

Or play Let’s make a deal with the Iggles for Lito Sheppard but he’s always hurt if you ask me.

  18. Ken says:

Only 2 of those sacks came in the second half of a game. I don’t want good players. Good players get a 13-3 team eliminated at home by the colts after a first round bye. I want CLUTCH players.

  19. This news tells us that Allen’s contract “demands beyond this season are so out of line with the Chiefs’ rebuilding plans that general manager Carl Peterson feels his team would be better served using that money to address the many other needs it has”….. (Per ESPN).

I don’t generally like Carl, but I am sticking up for him on this one.

  20. Believe it or not, Jared Allen may be more valuable to us in a trade, than on the field for just one more year! A year were we will most likely miss the playoffs. Have faith! The last two drafts have been good, this one will too.

  21. ROC27 says:

I would definitely rather take Minnesota’s 1st and 2nd round pick THIS YEAR than trade with Tampa Bay. The Vikiings have an earlier pick. We can adress 4 positions of need in 2 rounds (DE, OT, OG, CB). If we dont trade Jared, keep him, even if its for 1 more year, draft Dorsey, and develop Turk McBride.

  22. ROC27 says:

But if the Vikes dont wanna fess up their 1st and 2nd of THIS years draft, then its NO DEAL. We should then look at Phili for Lito (in MY opinion)

  23. ROC27 says:

    Hali is #91 (Long’s # at Virginia). . . . Hmmmm I think Chris MAY look sick rockin’ #69. . . . What do ya think? Hahaha!

  24. DUSTIN says:

I have to say, if it is a proposed Haye, and a 1st and a future pick the Bucs have to make this deal.

    a. We have too many players, and this would be a deal shrinking our roster (Haye, and a pick) for one player

    b. Our Dline would be frightening. Allen and Gaines at the ends, Greg White backing them up, with Hovan and Kevin Carter and a guy that the Bucs love, last years pick Greg Peterson who could actually start. We have talked to Rod Coleman multiple times

    c. We have so much cap room, that this deals makes tons of sense for us.

  25. ROC27 says:

Then I WOULD say look to trading with Cinncinati for Ocho Cinco. They JUST lost Justin Smith. But Chad wants to win a playoff game, if not a championship.

  26. Any team who received Allen would be getting a Monster! He has had 43 sacks in 55 games! He is an absolute monster, our team is not, so trade him!

  27. ComeSackMyQB says:

hey zach..i think you made me nervous..lol..i sounded bad..couldnt stop fumblin my words..maybe next time will be better

  28. NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs are asking for first- and second-round picks in exchange for franchise player Jared Allen.

Allen will command a Dwight Freeney-esque deal (six years, $72 million), so it will be an enormous commitment for a team acquiring him. Schefter says the Vikings’ 2008 first- and third-rounders are on the table. He adds that the Jaguars made recent inquiries, but have bowed out for now. If the Chiefs deal Allen, they may target Chris Long or Vernon Gholston at No. 5 overall.

  29. jason says:

crane we give up allen and our #5 for ware, and 2 #1’s? makes NO SENSE to me

  30. matt says:

If the vikings give up their 1st and 2nd this year i say we take it.

  31. jason says:

    me too

  32. matt says:

it only makes sense if he’s going to leave next year anyway….

  33. jason says:

look back i said long ago, we should get minn’s 1st and bryant mckinney(lt)

  34. Cisper says:

While Allen is the best DE in the league (personal opinion) trading him makes sense to me. He doesnt want to be here anymore because he wants a shot at a superbowl in the next 2 or 3 years, the Chiefs simply put are not going to be there in 2 or 3 years. I say we ship him to Minnesota for round 1 pick 17, round 2 pick 47, and a 3rd-5th in 09. Then we take Gholston, Long, Long, or Dorsey in the 1st… later in the first we grab either Clady, Otah, or Albert… in the second we take a CB and possibly more OL or WR.

  35. Stevenh says:

Damn, I thought there was going to be something to this because it came from Jay Glazer, he has a some good sources. Then Carl actually taking the time to make a statement about and not say that it is complete bs. I think we are going to be without JA. This sucks.

CP will have a hard time explaining this one to the fans. I know he will say “it’s a business” “and the deal was too good to pass up…” BULL! Jared is the fan favorite, I can’t understand why you wouldn’t want to build around him instead of trade him. My guess is there is more than meets the eye.

  36. Taylor says:

i dont know why the vikings are offering next years first 2 picks and not this years. and i cant see carl peterson trading allen for number 17 and 47 in the draft, i hope it will take more than that right now for the best defensive lineman in the league.

  37. matt says:

i dont think wed take next years picks… at least id hope we wouldnt.

  38. Czar says:

This is getting misunderstood. The offer reported by Glazer was THIS years first round and 2009 second round pick.

  39. Zach says:

    ComeSackMyQB -

I make people nervous? Dont worry about it everyone sounds nervous their first time. I wont bite your head off.

Let me know when you would like to do another podcast and we will get after it again. We can also go over a set of questions before we start.

Also any of you other sissys want to get your voice out there and do a little podcast let me know!

  40. xxxlp says:

You’ve gotta strike while the iron is hot. We let go of Boomer, his friend, and one of the fan favorites. We stuck a franchise tag on him, when he vehemently said he did not want it, and would be gone if he got it. Well, he got it. He’s going to leave one way or the other, but we need to make it on our terms, not his. Realistically, looking at the contract he wants.. A first and a third is pretty decent trade material for JA. He’s going to want something like 30million guaranteed, and teams aren’t that willing to give great picks + a great contract, even for a beast like JA. We don’t necessarily need to replace him immediately, but there are plenty of guys in this years draft in rounds 2 or 3, that would make a difference. We could even take a guy like Trevor Laws, a high-motored stud, at DT, and put him at DE. It might be like comparing Lambourghini’s and a ‘72 Chevy pick-up, but they both run, and both get you from point A to point B.

  41. Zach says:

Well we had to franchise him, he knows that. Couldn’t just let the guy walk…

  42. simon from kc says:

So, does anyone else feel like crying right now. I just bought Jared Allens jersey last december. Like 200 dollar replica one!

  43. Zach says:

OUCH! It might be time to go get a D-BO or just go with a DT or Tony-G. Can’t really go wrong with those 2.

  44. Larry says:

Simon, I feel for you. I was REAL close to picking up his EQT jersey, it just came out. My general rule of thumb is picking up jersey’s of guys you know are going to be around for a while. LJ just signed a long term deal, Tony is another easy one. I’m just scared to put money into a guy that has a chance of going somewhere else.

  45. Porter Park says:

this would be a good move, if you dont think so you probably have his jersey. Allen is good for 1 or 2 sacks a game but is also good for atleast 1 run over 25 yrds to his side because hes so far up field. DE is glory spot, if you dont believe me then just look at how many good DE are in the league and how many are first rounders this year. Lets also not forget that hes a screw up away from a 1 year suspension.
