I guess that you don't have to pick a DE with the #5 but you have to admit that we are losing ground at RE with that scenario. There is NO WAY you can put Turk anywhere even close to the same league as JA right now so I guess you mortgage some of the best of the defense to buy some offense. Yes Turk was a second and JA was a 4th but the round a player is picked in only carries him so far. After a while he has to start earning the position.

I know I sound like I hate this idea but the thing is I don't see enough up side. We know what we have with JA and we know he is dominate. It's not like we are talking about a mediocre player here, he is the sack leader in the league. That WILL hurt our defense.

Well I am not 100% sold that you HAVE TO pick a DE. Herm feels confident that Turk can play so why not give him a shot. He was a second round pick.

Hell we let Kris Wilson and the rest of Dick-V's crew run around for a few years. If we are going to rebuild might as well see what we got.

What MasterBlaster is saying is that we would have to use the first rounder that we get from MN to replace the player that we are trading so that first round pick is void. I think of it a little more harsh than that even. I think that if you truly want to replace JA then you have to use the #5 pick. In that scenario you trade JA for an unproven player and now you only have a lower 1st rnd and another 2nd. This would take away the chance to pick any player you want with #5.
