ChiefStock: Oh Lordy, Jordy

by Draft

As you all know, Zach and I are big Wildcats fans (by the way, congrats, Beakers…phew, got that out of the way), so you know we both have a man crush on Jordy Nelson. We’re not the only ones either–Mel Kiper picked him as his No. 1 rookie WR if any NFL team were facing a hypothetical third and seven. He also compared him to Dwight Clark. Personally, I roll with Wes Welker meets T.J. Houshmandzadeh, but that’s just me. Looks like he’s going to be a second rounder, though. Anyway, enjoy the highlight package and cross your fingers–the Chiefs need them some Jordy!

if any thaing what the kids name get up on this one really

there alot of good wr this year and o line men if his not there we will get a good one this year too what about number 7 from University of Louisville any one look at him yet tell me what you think about him email me at [email protected]

Hey, I do NOT want to be the one who says we should take him in the 2nd. I SAID: I think he will be there in the top of the 3rd (though he is getting a lot of looks). IF the Chiefs really wanted him, we ought to trade back in the second, pick up a 3rd or 4th (to take care of more pressing needs), and then take Jordy in the bottom half of the 2nd. That being said, I'm more concerned about other positions than about whether we get Jordy. There are a lot of receivers that can help us.

Hell, the way some of the mocks have been going, we could get Kelly, Jackson, Sweed, or Hardy at the top of the 2nd. Taking him (like Tom Bahali did over at the Arrowhead Pride site) with the 36th overall pick would be a reach. Jordy is a good player, but he does not have the same type of measurables and upside as some of the WR's at the top of the second.

To sum up: Jordy is a good player, fits our system and is worth a low 2nd to high 4th round pick. He's rising up draft boards because he is a consistent player with a good work ethic. He should not be mistaken for D-Bo. He does not have that type of upside. If he gets pushed into the middle/top of the 2nd round, the Chiefs should not be the one to take him.

Just like in free agency: don't fall in love with a player and overspend. Take what comes to you and do the work where you have the biggest holes (OL and CB). We can leave this draft with JUST a kick returner and be just fine. We got NEARLY NO production out of the receivers that we cut this year. If we do NOTHING, we will be no worse off that we were last year. I cannot say the same thing at CB or OL (though I think the players we lost at those positions were not of a high quality).

Thats sounds better :)

Don't get me wrong - I love the guy

Just not with our 2nd rounder!

I take it back .....i think he would actually do really good im not convinced he is second round pick but i would trade up later to get him maybe late second....he actually could be the number two or three and could do punt returns for us....my bad

No way - I am gone for a week, come back and the first thing I read is Jordy Nelson in the 2nd!

Adam - have you lost all control here :)

If we take Jordy Nelson in the 2nd I am going to scream.....if you think of the type of players that could be there at our spot in round 2......Oh man my head is hurting....I will be back in another week!

Back away from the Ledge People...put down the knife....

I want to take him in the 2nd. He would be Ed McCaffrey to our Rod Smith(Bowe).

I think the big thing for sure it this team is in need of more offensive playmakers. Whether it be this Nelson kid (who looks great--always gets to that yellow line like he can SEE it) or DMC or whoever, we need to have the ability to get the ball to a reliable set of hands on third-and-long. The Samie Parker days have changed my opinions on the relative value of recievers.

WOW. I'm sold! And he's a white boy?!? (WTF?)

Looks like he's got the skills to be a 2nd for sure. I agree with BAS - do whatever it takes to grab him. Might be a reach with our 2nd round pick, but I hope he's not gone by our 3rd round.

Can you imagine the mayhem if our line comes together and we have Jordy, DBowe, Gonzo, and LJ? (Not to mention DVD as 3rd WR and Kolby to change it up) Makes me all warm inside :)

Whiteboy got skills. He would be a great addition to the Chiefs roster.

Another thing he has in common is that he went to the same high school as Jon McGraw. Riley, Kansas

Another guarantee (my third): Jordy Nelson will be a legit second WR on some NFL roster. Book it, write it down, whatever...

I don't think NElson will be a 2nd reciever i think he will be an amzing third reciver but i just don't think he has the "stuff" to be a legit starter....If we get an O-lineman in the first round i would much rather have doucet in the second and a nice cover 2 corner in the third......that sounds alot better to me

I'm not a big fan of the powercats, but I think Nelson would be an incredible addition. From all of the talk from the Chiefs, they certainly is on the radar. He's projecting in that late 2nd, early 3rd range. I think, the way some of the mock drafts are evolving, a lot of the 1st round receivers are pushing down to the top of the second, and many of them are large receivers. We have the 3rd pick in the 3rd round, so I think we will get a crack at him. However, to be willing to make that move, we have to have CB and OT wiped out on the board, leaving the third for WR, DL, or another line position.

Another possibility: if KC really likes him, they trade back in the 2nd, pick up and extra 3rd-4th, then take him in the last 1/2 of the second round. If we do that, having our other 2 needs wiped out becomes less important. That 2nd round pick is prime real estate in trades -- all of the people in the middle and back of the round will want to grab the players that have 1st round grades and slip to the second. Also, that spot is QB row for the desperate (see: Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, ViQueens, or the Bucs).

I'm OK with we miss out on Jordy (we have other need and there are lots of mid-round WR's with return abilities). However, unless we are looking for a Welker type (like Hawkins, whom we've interviewed), Jordy fits the mold of the 2nd/power slot receiver and returner better than anyone in the draft, especially if we want someone to play this year.

KCMizzou, did you not watch him play against the Tigers for four years? Kind of hard to miss a badass white receiver...j/k, man...Mizzou fans are too worried about Chase Daniel breathing alright on the sideline to worry about watching the other team's offense :)

like ive been saying at the forums he plays a lot faster than he might run timed

I've not seen much of him until now. Dudes got some moves. Some quick ass feet too.
