Krumrie vs. Carroll

by Chiefs

Found this over the weekend on PFT about the Chiefs‘ own Tim Krumrie. Personally, I think the drill says a lot about a player’s mental toughness, among other traits, but that’s just me. I guess we all know that Pete Carroll pampers all of those semi-pros over at USC. Check it out:

The Times reported that Carroll watched some of his former players engage in “a hand-to-hand combat drill,” and that Carroll didn’t like the contact and vowed, “That won’t happen again here.”

We’ve since learned that the coach in question was Kansas City Chiefs defensive line coach Tim Krumrie, and we’ve been reminded of a PFT report from last year about Michigan’s pro day, when a source said Krumrie roughed up defensive tackle Alan Branch.

According to Scott Wolf of the San Bernardino Sun, Carroll got angry when USC draft prospects Sedrick Ellis, Lawrence Jackson and Alex Morrow were put through a drill in which they had to knock away Krumrie’s arms “until they almost fell from exhaustion.”

Krumrie was a two-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman who played for the Bengals for 12 years and is best remembered for a Theismannesque injury in Super Bowl XXIII. Apparently he misses the contact of his playing days and likes to test himself against the young bucks, and apparently Carroll is among those who thinks he goes too far.

LMAO...that's what happens when you step to this community of Chiefs fans!

All hail, Trojan Man!!! Mother of all Homers!!! Lord of the Politically Correct!!! Master of the Downtrodden!!! Dip of all Shits!!!!!

Skip, sorry, bud, but you step into our house and talk smack, you get it right back atcha. The teams are evaluating players, so they can really do whatever the fuck they want as long as it's within the rules. If players or coaches can't handle it, then they need to toughen up. This is football, not tiddlywinks, dude. You obviously are a big time Trojan homer. That being said, how did you enjoy my Wildcats thrashing your Trojans in the tourney? And I must add that I enjoyed that Stanford game last year. Take care, friend. If we take Ellis I hope he ends up being a little tougher than his former coach.

Screw you, Adam.
It's a stupid bullshit "drill" and everybody but Krumrie (and some KC homers) thinks so. It wasn't supposed to be part of Pro Day at USC (they had real football drills), Krumrie was just showing off his silly-ass "drill". That's what pissed PC off.

Skip your ass on out of here, Skip...anyone who has a problem with the Krumrie drill is a pussy. Sorry, ladies, but that was necessary to illustrate the point.

Anyone who thinks PC "pampers" his players is just plain ignorant. I mean, seriously ignorant.

And to take one comment by PC about something he didn't like and then use it to make up a whole theory about his players is beyond ignorant. It's just plain dumb. Maybe instead of comments like "I haven’t heard anything concerning Sedrick Ellis’ work habits, but..." you guys should read up on how Carroll's practices are run.

The only criticism I have seen of them (and I read everything about PC and USC) is that they are just too intense and too many players get hurt (in practice).

well at least the chiefs know exactly what tim thinks i think that gives us a distinct advantage

Dave,

Good thoughts. It certainly makes one wonder about the work ethic and dedication of those players. I haven't heard anything concerning Sedrick Ellis' work habits, but this whole Pat Carroll (PC?) thing brings it into question. I think Ellis is a very gifted athlete, whether that translates into a successful NFL career is another matter. At least with Dorsey there is little question about his strength/heart/work habits from what information I have received. I would be interested in knowing if Tim Krumrie thought Ellis faded before he should have. Which is, after all, the whole purpose of Tim's hand drill isn't it?

You know this really makes me wonder about Ellis.

Think about the most recent players coming from USC

Reggie Bush - his team says he is not a hard worker/needs to dedicate himself more and needs to train at the facility

Mr. Matt party with the CoEds - horrible work ethic/can't hold on to the starting job because coach questions his passion for the game

D. Jarrett - lazy, takes plays off/doesn't work hard in the wieght room

Ect. Ect. Ect.....

Here is my point - could Carroll be babying his players so much that they are soft when they get to the NFL....if so how did Ellis do during the Drill? Is he soft? What did Krumie say?

Talent can only get you so far, you also need some Heart and dedication - just ask Reggie Bush

I like Ellis alot and I would hope that he is a hard worker.

Any thoughts?

LOL @ calling a hand drill 'hand to hand combat'

lol!! HAHAHAHA! Awesome!

Waaaaah! Waaaaaaah! Big tough linemen are being intimidated by a fortysomething coach who would like to find out if they can EARN the millions of dollars they want to play at the next level. Wow, most of us would jump at the opportunity to be worn to a frazzle by Tim Krumrie. The dude not only needs to chill out, he needs to STFU.

Very true. Dude needs to chill out. Then again, this is the same guy who has Snoop Dogg in the locker room. Typical L.A. 'tude. I know--I used to live there.

Hey Pete! They are not your players anymore.
