Just received an e-mail from one of my sources that made my jaw hit the floor. My source demanded that he remain anonymous, but there’s a big development taking place at the NFL owners meetings and it involves the Chiefs. Apparently, the Chiefs are now the leader in the clubhouse in the Chad Johnson sweepstakes.
Herm Edwards feels he has a good relationship with Ocho Cinco, and the rest of the front office feels that he’s the only player out there worth shelling out big bucks for. The Chiefs’ brass also feel that this will allow them to ignore the wide receiver position at the draft, instead focusing on more crucial positions like cornerback and offensive tackle. The Chiefs will likely have to surrender a second-round pick this year and a conditional future pick to the Bengals, and it appears they will. The actual trade won’t happen until closer to the draft, a la the Patrick Surtain deal.
We’ll pass along whatever we hear. Stay tuned…
