Chiefs Top Three In Attendance

Posted by: Blog Z

I was happy to see that us Chiefs fans stay loyal to a team that went 4-12. The two other teams in the top three were the Redskins (have the largest stadium in the league) and the Giants (Super Bowl Champs). The team in fourth place was the New York Jets. Either we are die-hards or delusional lunatics, but I don’t care because I LOVE GOING TO ARROWHEAD STADIUM!

Rank Team Attendance
1 Washington Redskins 711,471
2 New York Giants 629,391
3 Kansas City Chiefs 622,541

The Redskins, who have the league’s largest stadium, FedEx Field, led in regular-season home paid attendance for the eighth consecutive season. The Redskins drew 711,471, an NFL mark.

Three other teams topped 600,000 paid home attendance: the New York Giants (629,391), Kansas City Chiefs (622,541) and New York Jets (616,756). Eleven teams drew more than 1.1 million paid attendance home and away during the regular season, led by Washington (1,264,890). The others were the Giants (1,187,915), Jets (1,171,564), Miami Dolphins (1,156,762), Chiefs (1,145,938), New England Patriots (1,131,027), Buffalo Bills (1,129,052), Denver Broncos (1,120,996), Philadelphia Eagles (1,120,090), Green Bay Packers (1,112,753) and Carolina Panthers (1,100,147).

Largest stadium seating capacity in the NFL:

    Washington Redskins (FedEx Field): 80,000
New York Giants (Giants Stadium): 79,469
Kansas City Chiefs (Arrowhead Stadium): 79,409
    Denver Broncos (Invesco Field): 76,125

    etc.

Are you beginning to see a pattern? When you have 5-20% more seating capacity then the rest of the league, you tend to fill more seats.

Sadly, even though I am a life long Chiefs Fan in CA, I have never been to Arrowhead. I have never experienced the “awe” of Arrowhead :-( I will make the trip soon, and hopefully can catch up with you guys there!

r8, sure but when the Arizona Cardinals or other shitty franchises go 4-12, their place is empty. It wouldn’t matter if they had 200,000 seats.

Stadium size is an obvious factor since the Jets came in at fourth and share the stadium with the Giants. But you still have to have fans to fill it.

The New York City market is 25 million people. That’s twice the size of the next biggest fish in the pond. They can handle 2x the demand.

Also, it matters when most teams are operating at capacity. I agree the Cardinal’s couldn’t sell out a taco stand but most NFL teams sell out their games. Denver sells out 100% of their games. If they had 5% more seating, they’d sell just as many tickets as the Chiefs.

I didn’t say it wasn’t great that you sell out games, I’m just saying its commendable for any NFL team to have a sellout season. These numbers aren’t descriptive of that.

Anyway, I’m just ragging on you because us Broncos fans are sick of losing to you on the road.

I thought I smelt a Bronco…. Even you Broncos fans our Arrowhead Addicts. Glad to have you here.

How happy are you guys with Brandon Marshall? Reminds me of the Griese’s dog story.

  7. 7. Chris Says:

We may have been in third as far as attendance. But I was at the Denver Bronco game at Arrowhead last year. There were maybe 25,000 fans left right after half time of that game.

You know what would be really interesting? To be able to see the live numbers of fans actually at a game. Or at least a minute by minute run down. That can’t be too hard, can it?

  8. 8. r8rh8r Says:

I haven’t got the stomach for all the Marshall melodrama in the media, but Marshall makes me nervous. I’m hoping we’ve seen the worst of it. I’d hate to have a T.O.-esque or Ocho-Cinco-esque WR for the next 10 years.

It looks like we’ve got the same problem at WR you do: nobody to stretch the field. Tony Gonzalez helps, but aren’t you guys a little nervous about all that size with so little speed? Planning on running the ball much this year?

We are loyal fans, but we’re not stupid.

Just thought that needed to be said.

Get all these Broncos out of here. This is bullshit. Bunch of spies up there in them hills. You guys got our center, why don’t you get off our jock.
