Adam,

I generally like where you're going with this, I understand your arguments and you do make several good points in defense of it. Where I part company is with you is with your persistent assumption that a high caliber offensive tackle will be fall into our laps with the 2nd pick.

I consider that a dangerous if not terrible assumption.

Twelve teams, not counting the Chiefs, now have offensive tackle as a high priority (#1 or #2) need. To make matters worse, 4 of those teams badly need TWO tackles, not one. The mock draft that you put up to preface this blueprint, had the Ravens taking a tackle - they're not even among those 12. The Giants, another team not on the list, have shown strong interest in Cherilus. There's a 50-50 chance the Pats will go OT with their 1st pick. I can go on and on listing off teams facing a similar decision in the 1st round and continuing on into the top of the 2nd.

So here's a twist to your scenario that I would like for you and other readers to consider - let's say that the Chiefs do not "reach" (whatever that means) for the best tackle available with their 1st pick. And then suppose that only 6 of the 18 tackles needed are selected before the Chiefs have their 2nd pick. Branden Albert is also gone btw.

At that point, do the Chiefs reach for a tackle or take the BPA? If they do not reach badly for a tackle in the 2nd round, then how do the Chiefs use the remainder of the draft to address their needs for offensive tackle, guard, and center?

There WILL be a run on offensive tackles, we will have DMC and we will win the award for worst NFL draft.

Adam,

"D.) Skill players can make the offensive line better. Players like Darren McFadden stretch the field and keep the defense honest. Our biggest problem last year was facing 8-9 guys in the box every down, sometimes more."

That's your best argument yet.

You can't say you watched all the games and tell me Harris was spectacular. I'd maybe give you solid if he showed any once of consistency.

Heres what I see happening. 1st Carl is waiting to see if Gohlston is available at #5, if he is then Jared Allen is off to Philly for there 1st pick and Lito Shepard. Then we pick Gholston with the #5 and then Branden Albert (A Will Shields clone) with the 1st that we aquired from Philly. In the 2nd we take Early Doucett (praying that he is still there). In the 3rd round finaly address Tackle or center and get a good one with Collins if he is still there but if not take Sullivan.

1.Vernon Gohlston (DE)aka one bad ass brother
2.(via trade with Philly) 19th pick Branden Albert (G)+ acquiring Lito Shepard (DB)at corner
3.(2nd round) Early Doucett (WR)(Bowe and Doucett-WOW!)
4.(3rd round) John Sullivan (C)(Tim Grunhard clone)
5.(4th round) Oneil Cousins (T)
6.(5th round) Owen Schmitt (FB)bad ass full back

Im not one to put all my money on tackles in the first round, this draft has so many. We need star power on this team badly, and with the names ive put up there we would be well on our way with the best draft ever!!

Ya, he led the team in tackles, but someone had to. I watched every game last year, and I did not see what I was hoping to see when we signed him. If you guys say he looked good, you are looking at last season through rose tinted glasses. He had a handfull of good tackles behind the line but what else? I don't think the coaching staff was that impressed with his play either. As for Edwards being 35, that is old no matter how you look at it. Regarding the Chiefs being able to afford LJ and DMC, I don't think Chester Taylor, Duece, Fred Tayor, or MOJO make even close to as much as LJ. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes more than Jacksonville's enite backfield. We can't afford LJ and DMC with all of our holes. I don't see the "Cheaps" doing it.

sorry, with demmorrio we just got even better at the position. EVERYONE just needs to remember that our defense was on the field for it seemed like forever last year. it seems like they played 3/4ths of the games. those guys were worn out. boone tired out also. the play of the d went downhill the more they were on the field.

everyone is talking trash on harris but was he really that bad??? i didnt think so. maybe people watch different games. and donnie is ancient?? last i heard the pats starters at lb were more like 37 to 40 and they were in the sb. donnie will be fine for at least the remainder of his contract(2 yrs.) i dont see how anyone wasnt excited about him coming back. watch games hes always around the ball. same with harris.i think both will be fine this yr and with demmorrio
