Glen Dorsey Pro Day Video With…Tim Krumrie? Yep

If this doesn’t show that the Chiefs are interested in DT Glenn Dorsey, then I don’t know what will. Good to see that Tim Krumrie’s still got it. This is all very interesting leading up to “The Buleprint 3.” From ESPN:

I think it would be great if Dorsey got back in the top 4. That might mean Jake Long would get bumped to us.

But if we had a pick between Dorsey and Ellis, I still think we should go with Ellis, to play it safe.

Don’t get too excited, Krumrie worked out other DTs including Alan Branch last year too. Still it would not be a bad pick up.

With the luck we’ve had with DT’s over the years I’d hate to draft one in the first round.

Atta a Boy Glen! Keep up the good work and force the Rams to draft you or trade out of the #2 spot with someone who does.

Yah know this also raises an interesting question. What if Dorsey is picked high and both Ellis and Long fall to us?

My kneejerk is to take Long. But from what ive been reading its really hard to find an elite DT. And, not so hard to find a very good OT.

    What do you guys think?

    Scott Says:

I think most Chiefs fans would lean towards Long. The simple fact is that our defense was the strength of the team last year while the offense was a complete clusterf—. Basic logic would say to use your highest pick to fix your weakest area.

Still…I’m not sure what I would do in that situation. It would be very tempting to take one of those DT’s.

I would love to see them take the DT in the first and an OT in the second.

    UCrawford Says:

Honestly, I’d prefer Jake Long since OT is a desperate need spot for us…but if they were both available and the Chiefs went with Ellis, I probably wouldn’t be calling Carl Peterson an idiot for doing so. Anyone we get out of Long, Ellis, or Dorsey (in that order), in my opinion, is going to be a major asset for us. My only hesitance about Dorsey is health…he’s a warrior who will play hurt, but he seems to pick up a lot of the type of knocks that could really shorten his career.

    bigchief13 Says:

Dorsey looked absolutley fine, and for that reason I don’t think we will even have the option of taking him. As for Long or Ellis, we would obviously go for Long because our OL is the worst in the league.

    1997 (1 pick)
    1st Tony G. -TE-starter-probowler

Ok…this list is mostly based on the guys that Herm has kept. This also shows how much work Herm has done; contrasted with how much damage Vermil did.

Herm has 13 starter worthy (mostly picks) over 2 years

Vermil has 6 starter worthy over 8 yeears

I know I left some out, like priest and hall, but im basing this on what is left, not what was overall picked.

Isn’t it amazing how much damage Vermil did to Kansas cities football future. Go take a long look at the 00-05 draft and you will get my meaning.

Isn’t it also amazing how well Herm & Co. have picked over the last 2 years (coaching and time management not withstanding).

There are probably 100 mistakes I made in this list so I submit humbly to the flaming. But, I wanted to throw this out there so you guys can chew on it.

    (crap I hit the wrong button…erase 12)
    Where we are going…

Ok…for starters we need 7 guys, yesterday, to plug holes

    OT - Dire need
    CB - Dire need
    QB - Dire need (debatable)
    DT - need
    OG - need
    C - need
    WR - need

In the next 3 years (roughly) we will have 6 guys to replace

CB Surtain - 3 years left
    LB N. Harris - 3 years left
    LB D. Edwards - 2 years left
DT Boone - 3 years left
OG Waters - 3 years left
OT McIntosh - 3 years left
Tony G. - who knows(Michael Allen can step in)

That is 13 starters needed in the next 3 years. 7 we need right now! And, in a good draft, based on historc data, you can snag 4 good starters. Chew on that;)

    UCrawford Says:

    MasterBlaster,

Whoa, whoa, whoa…you can scratch McIntosh and Napolean Harris from that “starter/solid” list right off. Last year they were anything but. We brought in DeMorrio Williams this year because Harris wasn’t solid. And McIntosh was a terrible tackle on the worst o-line in the NFL last year…the only reason he kept his job was because he was competing against Turley, Terry and Svitek. For your free agents, Boone was good last year but he’s on the wrong side of 30 and was somewhat injury-prone…same with Donnie Edwards.

For the draftees, the jury’s still out on Pollard and Page. They are promising but they’ve still got holes in their games and need to show development. Kolby Smith may be good enough to start, or he may not. Same with Tank and Turk. As for Michael Allan, I don’t know what classifies a guy who played three games and got zero receptions as a “steal”. For all the people who want to point out the last couple of years as being indicative of a more productive drafting strategy for the Chiefs, keep in mind that four of our five draft picks last year could accurately be classified as “not good enough to start for a 4-12 team” and our QB of the future couldn’t outperform a really banged-up Damon Huard. The question is, how many of these guys would be good enough to make the roster of NFL teams that went .500 or better?

When evaluating Peterson’s drafting strategy, a better approach is to take into account his record over his entire 19 year career. We crunched the numbers over on a thread on the KC Star and it came out to something like a 27% success rate at finding decent players in the draft…and his record wasn’t really all that stellar in the good years for the Chiefs and it dropped off a lot after Whitey Dovell died in 1991.

Herman drafting well??? I’d guess that just as in the previous drafts, most of the his picks will flutter into oblivion. Are you forgetting that even Junior Siavii floated on the roster for two years? Obviosly most of the picks from the last two will still be here. Of coarse Herm has a good draft rate, his draftees have no competition, and they havn’t had time to prove how bad they can be. I’m not saying they are all bad, I hope they aren’t, but all players are given at least a few years to mature. By the way, how do you pass on Crosby and pick Medlock. The guy had major issues comming into that draft and Crosby was the higher rated kicker by far.

    Clinton Says:

Well Medlock dominated Crosby in all the offseason drills, plus the key to Crosby was his long distance and many were wondering if it was because he played in the Rockies with Colorado. I think Medlock was a better kicker, he just got a mental block, and a mental block is the worse thing for an athlete. Just look at Chuck Knoblauch. He dominated for the Yankees until he had a mental block and didnt think he could throw it to first base and then ended up playing for the Royals.

  17. 17
    bigchief13 Says:

Crosby was the #1 rated kicker by pretty much every anylist going into that draft and has proven to be the best selection without doubt.

    MasterBlaster Says:

    Ucrawford…

Ill agree with all those things you said with two exceptions.

First, when I think of McIntosh, I think of a right tackle. Im assuming, were gona pick up a solid left offensive tackle in the draft. I agree, that McIntosh is overwelemd at left OT, but I think he would be solid at right OT. I still could be wrong, but thats what I think when I think of McIntosh’s future.

Second, when I say steal for Michael Allen, I was kinda quoting stuff from the 2007 Walter Football 5th round draft predections. Walter Football predicted that Allen would go in the middle of the 5th to such and such team. They said that he was a “steal” in the 5th. I guess they thought he should go in the 4th or even 3rd. We got him at 7th, so thats where I get the “steal” language. They even said “steal”. Again, alot of this is based on reading, not sitting in front of Michael Allen with a stop watch.

  19. 19
    UCrawford Says:

    MasterBlaster,

I think we’re going to have to agree to disagree on McIntosh…I saw him give up on too many plays for me to think that he’s going to be anything better than an average reserve that you’d never want to start. I suspect that’s why Miami let him go.

As for Allan, I think draft projections are kind of pointless (actually, I think the draft itself is kind of pointless, but that’s another conversation). Production is what matters. It’s probably not fair to judge Allan’s future prospects right now, mainly because he’s young and this was his first year and he was fourth on the depth chart (behind Tony G, Dunn, and Wilson, sort of). But I think that the fact the team basically relegated him to the practice squad after one game and only put him in three games, despite the fact that Dunn was washed up and Wilson sucks indicates that at his current talent level, the 7th round was about where he deserved to be drafted. He might turn out to be better this year, given a bit more opportunity. Or he might turn out to be fit only for the practice squad. I just don’t think we can classify him as either a steal or a scrub until we see more of him (because you can’t really judge any draft class accurately until about three or four years later).

    UCrawford Says:

    Clinton,

I think Medlock was a better kicker, he just got a mental block, and a mental block is the worse thing for an athlete.

All I know was that Medlock couldn’t even hit his kicks in practice. Kickers have got one basic job…putting the ball where they need it to go. If they can’t do that, they’re as useless as you or I would be to the team. And if he developed a mental block that precludes him from hitting his marks in practice, what do you think would happen if you stuck him in a game where it really mattered? He’d be crapping little green apples.

    UCrawford Says:

    bigchief13,

By the way, how do you pass on Crosby and pick Medlock.

It’s easy when our jackass GM has a UCLA fetish that makes him pop wood whenever a Bruin (like Medlock) pops up on the draft board. Nice job, Carl.

The ironic thing is that Medlock was picked with the 5th rounder we got from St. Louis for Dante Hall. Medlock eventually ended up on St. Louis’ practice squad. So basically we gave away Dante Hall to St. Louis so that we could draft a kicker for them and spend a season watching Eddie Drummond botch returns. Absolutely brilliant maneuvering there.
