Benny Sapp Heads To Minnesota

AUTHOR: Blog Z | IN: Chiefs | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

AA FA UpdateThe Minnesota Vikings signed CB Benny Sapp to a one-year contract. The Daily Norseman is reporting that his deal is worth $705,000. This shows that the Chiefs had no real interest in bringing Benny back and decided to move on without him. I just want to thank Benny for the few big plays he provided and being a pretty decent tackler. Good luck and farewell, bring in the new blood.

i for one will be sad to see benny go..im from iowa so i watched him closely through college and was very happy when he became a chief… there are only a few other iowa players that i enjoyed watching as much as benny sapp..the boy could lay a lick…good luck movin on benny and we hope to see you prove that we shoulda kept you in k.c

I think the Chiefs wanted him to become the nickel/2nd corner they needed, but it just never happened. He did seem to always be involved if their was a big play, but his skills are limited. Thanks Benny….

As an Iowa fan, what was he truly like as a college player?

well..when iowa had him and bob sanders both in the secondary…there was nobody on that team that could hit like those two…if it wasnt one it was the other..i loved it in those days..i know it was only a few yrs back but iowa hasnt been that good since and then benny left and went to u.n.i and was never really the same..we used to call them two the hit squad…i hungout in iowa city a few times with those guys..fun times…you remember a few yrs back..a guy named jj moses?..that was my best friend through junior high and high school..and he ended up on my fav team..it was pretty cool to see that too

With that kind of money, it’s silly that we didn’t re-sign him. I just think he wasn’t Herm’s kind of player.

  5. UCrawford says:

I think he was a limited player as a pro (more situational than a starter), but he was solid enough to help the team and I’m sorry to see him go. He was better than Law last year and he would have been reasonably priced this year and could have stepped in as a starter if we couldn’t find somebody else.

He would have signed super cheap and look at what we have now. I don’t understand just letting him go with the holes we have. He definately wasn’t awful and was showing some improvement with the extra playing time. I liked him, and I think the chiefs EFF’d up again. The way things are going this draft is going to be a mess. Starting to really not like herman.

  7. Zach says:

I think UCraw makes a great point that he could only play on situational downs…

  8. jason says:

not to beat a dead (or dying) horse but now we’re one more corner shot(or was he a short corner?) anyways, DRC looks better every day (as long as JLONG is gone)

  9. jason says:

On the above post That was supposed to be one corner short but sapp was short

  10. jason says:

pretty good player though I just don’t see not resigning him at that price

  11. Crane says:

That meltdown he had this year on the field probably didn’t help him…nor in Minnesota’s confidence in him since they just did a 1-yr. contract.
