I love pollard, but even he was absolutely lit up frequently last year. So if he happens to regress or not improve this year, or say Hali goes out and posts a dismal 4 sacks or less, I would say that this debate swings a bit more in my favor. Let’s see how the season goes. And for the record, I in no way hope these things happen, Jay. I hope you are right about things.

We will see. I’ll give you some benefit of the doubt if at least two of those players that you had mentioned step it up this year and play respectably. But again, I don’t see it.

I concede that Herm’s drafts are still up for debate, but Vermiel’s are not, whatever braintrust was responsible for the drafts during his five years was aweful. Carl Peterson deserves some of that ire, but not because he called the shots, its that he allowed too many horrible choices. In 38 picks 9 or 10 are backups somewhere, Larry Johnson was CP’s pick, Jared Allen was drafted to be a long snapper, and Derrick Johnson was a gimmie at 15. So Vermiel succesfully chose a good maybe great punter (colquitt) and two starting LB (K. Mitchell, S. Fujita) in his time as the chiefs head coach. That isn’t good drafting.

I’ve stated more than a few times on AA that I think Herm deserves three years, and I personally don’t count the first year because he was dealing with DV’s leftovers. So as long as progress is shown this year, I’m still on board. If they go 4-12 again I’ll join in the chorus (note you said when they lose,) but if they are 8-8, which I don’t see as very far fetched at all, I’m all for letting them see the plan through. The only things that would get me truly upset now is if I saw them panic and divert from the plan. If they don’t sign Jared Allen, if they start signing retreads before the draft, or if they make miserable choices in the draft I might get ticked. So far none of that has happened, and they are doing exactly what they said they would do. At the very least they are being honest with the fans. They likely won’t be in the playoffs next year but in two years I think they’ll be there. Since they are going about it the right way, they will be good for years. If not I’ll eat my words, but if the chiefs fired coaches every two years we’d get nowhere.

What are you going to say when they do lose this season? By the way, all of those guys you have mentioned havn’t done a thing so far and if any do, I’ll be all for it. I just don’t see it happening.

bc13, You think only three guys will be left? I think that is a very low number. K. Smith showed he’s a versatile back up at the very least. Page did a respectable job in only his second year, Croyle hasn’t had a fair shot at all, Michael Allen will catch some balls and is good enough to be a second TE and could become as good as many starters in the league. The two O-lineman we have no idea about, but Herb held his own when he was in. Herm says Tank is already our best run stopper, and at worst Turk is a Jimmy Wilkerson. With the little we know about most of these players, you could look at any team and make the same prediction. You just have "chiefs suck" colored glasses. I feel really bad for all you guys who agonize over all this stuff. It sucks to watch the chiefs lose, but they haven’t lost yet this season, give em a break.

I don’t think Mcleon was ever a hyped up aquisition. He played how I expecterd he would play. I don’t think we broke the bank on him or anything. We paid for an average corner and got an average corner. It wasn’t like bringing in a Ty Law or anything. Dick had good signings and also sub-par signings. He signed players on the cheap who ended up as probowlers. And I don’t think Vermeil even played a roll in the Minnis draft, but I can’t remmember for sure. Siavii was an awfull pick you are right about that, and that ugly move to get Simms could not have been all Vermeil’s decision. In comparison, I would not say Herman’s drafts have been much more outstanding. A tad to early to say much, but as it stands right now I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bowe, Hali , and possibly Pollard as the only survivors from those two drafts. Only time will tell. Let us revisit this topic in 3 years when the playing field is even.

Bigchief13…are you serious? Dicky-V’s Loyalty to subpar players is why we spent useless dollars on players like Dexter McClown, and Shawn(maybe I should be a) Barber. Vonnie Holiday was miss used. This team was sent into a tailspin thanks to Vermail and King Ralph’s (Carl) failure to realize how old the oline and the entire team was getting. And WTF was wrong with Vermeil’s drafting skills? Junior Siavii in the second round? Trading up to get Ryan Sims when everyone on the draft boards were saying Peppers made him look good. Or how about Snoop Minnis. I could go on and on. Dick failed us, and Carl needs to go!………………I like Herm’s philosophy in the fact that Championship teams build themselves through the draft. The only problem is we are in for a hell of a long ride before this team becomes respectable again. And since they are being so Cheap we can not fix our Oline, but we’ll draft unproven players that they hope makes a difference. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brodie and Huard end up like Trent in 2006. Broken and on the sidelines.

Oh God, a "Herm said he wouldn’t change the offense" guy. Does anyone remember the first game Herm coached for the Chiefs? Where they kept running the same offense despite Willie Roaf’s retirement, and Trent Green ran for his life all game until he finally got his head caved in? Yeah, they should have stuck with that offense. That would have accomplished a lot.
