Jake Scott Heads To Tennessee

AUTHOR: Blog Z | IN: Chiefs | COMMENTS: 15 Comments

AA FA UpdateFormer Indianapolis Colts guard Jake Scott has left his former team and signed with the divisional rival Tennessee Titans.

The Tennessean, citing unnamed sources, reported Monday that the Titans have agreed to a four-year deal with guard Jake Scott, who played the past four seasons for the Indianapolis Colts.

Scott, 26, started 55 straight games for Indianapolis. His new deal with the Titans will average $5 million per season, the Tennessean reported.

This takes another OL off the market for the Chiefs. After doing a five hour live blog (yeah, thats right, it was five hours) yesterday and talking with other Chief fans, I have concluded that the Chiefs have to at least sign one free agent offensive lineman. If we wait and think we can draft two to three OL starters, then the Chiefs are crazy. We need to at least bring in somebody with a chance to start so we do not handcuff ourselves on draft day. That will force us to reach the entire draft and we know what reaching does for you in the draft, just take a look at the Dick Vermeil drafts.

Once again, the Chiefs remain true to their free agency strategy. I.e, keep doing nothing so that any and all free agents worth having will be gone. Brilliant!

  2. Zach says:

    Just Brilliant…

  3. BAS says:

Umm…we did sign a waiver wire candidate (Alibi). At this point, I would prefer to wait until the draft. I think they take 10 picks, then if they need more help, they trade for it (remember, we have 9 next year). If other teams stock up on o-line talent in the draft, some good mid-level people will shake away from some teams (and we are on the top of the waiver list). We will likely only draft 1 lineman in the first 4 rounds, then select two more in the back of the draft (interior) who can push for a backup spot or some playing time. We do have a lot of line players right now that can play the interior (Alibi, Taylor, Niswanger), and we might be able to find a good center really late in the draft.

I see Scott more as a system guy that may not have fit in well in KC.

  5. Zach says:

BAS, I know about that but its gonna have to take more than signing guys off waivers…I mean guys that have started a few NFL games. If you think that starting Alibi, Taylor and Niswanger is going to bring back even an average OL then I have some concerns.

Merlin, I agree with you a tad on that, but he did keep Peyton Manning upright for a few years (55 games total).
Now for his price tag I am not sure it would be worth it, but I think there are still some decent guys out there to at least take a peek at. Are OL Depth Chart is still rather thin:

    Chiefs:
    KC interested in Hadnot

    The News
The Kansas City Chiefs are planning to take a look at free agent
offensive lineman Rex Hadnot, according to Pro Football Weekly. Hadnot
has been advised that he is no longer in Miami’s future plans.
    Our View
The Chiefs have been lethargic in targeting players on the open market
and reportedly aren’t taking an aggressive approach in pursuing Hadnot.

  8. ROC27 says:

I Think Alibi could be copetitive enough to try for a starting spot.

  9. Jeremy says:

No to Hadnot, and Scott, not too interested.  Bring in Shane Olivea!  Give me one good reason why we should not.  Shane Olivea!!  He manned the right side when Ladanian Tomlinson was tearing up the league!  GO CHIEFS!

  10. Zach says:

    Thanks for that info BAS.

ROC27, thats what I am scared of. We had a bunch of guys that were suppose to compete for spots like; Sampson, Svitek, Black, Turley, Bober, and the list just keeps going. We saw how well that turned out.

  11. Zach says:

Jeremy, I agree with you on Olivea. Hadnot is another Dolphins OL and we saw how well that unit has done the past few seasons. We already have McIntosh, don’t need another.

  12. ROC27 says:

Dang. Whats with us and recycling Dolphins OLinemen? McIntosh, Alibi, and now Hadnot… Weird… Youre right Zach… But I mean, what else is there to conclude… FA was such a let down. And contiues to be so and I am terrified at the thought of having 3 ROOKIE O Linemen STARTING.

  13. CWebb says:

While I’ve dabbled enough in hating this team’s managment this offseason, I’ve gotta say that this could turn out ok. I mean, there are more cuts before and after the draft and after training camp. Why I’d be hesitant to start someone right after camp, I don’t see why it would be terrible if we still are looking weak on positions… right? *nervous*

  15. ROC27 says:

kccf56, Im with you, man. I just dont understand what this stradegy is. (and no I DONT need anyone to explain it to me. But KNOW what theyre doing. . . but why THIS way?) I mean, Herm said it himself, he’s looking for YOUNG guys, going into their 2nd contract, and behind a starter, or in a situation not right for the player. . . Its like “HERM, you freakin’ retard! Take you blinders off!” Dude, Who fits that description? Uhhhhh, Max Starks, Shane Olivea, DeAngelo Hall, Bryant Johnson. . . Now I know that Jared Allen is gonna cost us, but c’mon. . . Demarrio Williams? Thats it? No O-linemen? Not One? Im probably gonna be the most pissed fan here if we miss out on Olivea. . . Brilliant!
