Stray Arrows: Dewayne Robertson?

by Rumors

AA FA UpdateIt looks like the Dewayne Robertson-to-the-Bengals deal is the team’s second DT trade to be bungled over the past four days. According to PFT, because Robertson is due almost $10 million next year and unwilling to renegotiate that deal, the Jets will probably not be able to trade him. In that even they would have to cut him loose. Since there is nothing else to talk about today–well, except for Michael Gaines signing with Detroit–let’s ponder…

Should the Chiefs be interested in signing Robertson to address the DT position if he is cut?

Are you happy with the hiring of Brian Daboll as offensive coordinator?

I wasn't so much comparing Dorsey to Sims as comparing their situations.  He's no doubt going to be better than Sims, but not for a few years, Rookie DT's don't jump into the league and really wreak havoc, the learning curve is way too stiff (to clarify, he could be a lot better than Sims and still suck.)  Either way, I don't get the impression the chiefs will get a DT, QB, S, or LB early in the draft because that throws the plan out the window, we are young at those positions and need to get youth at many others.  Fans knock Croyle, but he had a horrible O-line, they knock Turk and Tank, but it was their first year, they knock Page and Pollard but those guys were the safeties on a top 15 D with bad corners and I don't think anyone has a problem with our LB's after signing Demorrio.  I think the plan is likely to stick with those guys at those positions and bolster others.

Adam, at this point... I'm biting on whatever "news" (fake or real) I can get. This sucks.

I actually like Ellis better than Dorsey.

And the Hackett-Johnson rumor is just a rumor. Obviously the Chiefs aren't doing jack.

carl peterson already said in the post season conference that they can't trade LJ it would accelerate his signing bonus and trading him will destroy the cap room we have next year....get used to LJ for along time because he isn't going anywhere

Eeeeeee! i dont know kcrob69. I would rather keep LJ and run the best 2 headed monster in the NFL.

I do like the idea of Run DMC, and taking him at 5 would only make since if we were to deal johnson. Now how about this scenario. Draft run DMC and then trade LJ to dallas for both 1's and a 3 and then we can get otah, and DRC, as well as pick up a second 3 wich we could use on Steve Justice at the center spot. All this is IMO

By the way... Arrowhead Pride reports that the Chiefs are 1 of 8 teams interested in the services of Bryant Johnson and DJ Hackett... ALSO, Bill Parcells is NOW begining to look deep and hard at BC's Matt Ryan... So, we'll see what happens.

kcrob69, I wouldnt compare Simms to Glenn Dorsey... Dude, Dorsey is an animal. And I think he will continue to play at that high level in the NFL as he did at LSU... Sed.Ellis made some noise at the Senior Bowl, but Im not too sold on HIM as much as I am on Dorsey. I would be ecstatic if we were to get him. Cause that would mean that we are an automatic top 5 Deffensive line in the league... Cause youre talking Allen, Dorsey, and Hali...and what the hell, Im gonna OFFICIALLY campaign for Boone to CONTINUE being our starter. Not only does he have 3 more years on his contract, and I KNOW he's 32, or 33... but c'mon... He played great last season. So, to have Allen, Dorsey, Boone, and Hali... You cant really ask for anything better... But, we'll see how our cards fall. I think that Chris Long, Jake Long, and Matt Ryan are all gone by the time we pick... Sedrick Ellis or Ghoston go to Oakland (Ellis might be the pickm considering that they lost Warren Sapp and Kiffin coached at USC.)... Then we have our pick between Run-DMC, Gholston (highly doubtful... unless we have other plans for Jared Allen) or my man, Glenn Dorsey... I think at THAT point in time, it'll REALLY depend on how bad Jerry Jones wants DMC... THEN! Forget about Dorsey, forget about DMC, AND Gholston!!! Cause then we can snatch up a 1st round Tackle (Otah), a 1st round Cornerback (DRC hopefully) and an extra 2nd rounder (probably)... I DO agree, theres A LOT of talent this year at the Offensive Line positions and we may simply go offense with 70 or 80% of our picks. (G's and T's, a FB, a WR, a BLOCKING TE, and MAYBE a QB).  alll this is IMO, ofcourse.

The knock I remember about Sims was that he had Julius Peppers on the same line, and it was thought (correctly in hindsight) that he was getting off easy due to double teams on Peppers.  Dorsey is no doubt a stud on his line but playing along side Tyson Jackson who could be the best DE next year and Kirston Pittman who will likely be in the top 20 I don't know that he's as good as his play suggests.  Sedrick Ellis is in a similar situation with Fili Moala as likely the best DT coming out next year, and Kyle Moore in the top 20 this year.   Neither of these are as blatant as I thought Ryan Sims was and its entirely possible that these are the guys making the others look so good, where as that was definitely not the case with Sims.  Either way, I tend to think that 1st round DT's are a bigger gamble than almost any other position.  I am really begining to hope that Long isn't there, we trade down ideally with Dallas for two first rounders, but if not trade for a player and a 1 and 2 from someone else.  I don't see a good reason to take anyone other than Long at #5, and the draft is too deep with OL talent to do that, unless the team decides he's an absolute sure thing.   In fact, given the depth of the draft at OL and CB, I wish we had 15 picks.

The only thing that scares me about The DT is we took Ryan Sims at 6 a few years ago and he was said to be a can't miss stud, well we all know how that turned out. At least this guy has some experience. He is definately an up grade.

Many mocks now have Jake Long going to the Rams or the Falcons and our Chefs taken Dorsey or Ellis; I know the Walter Football guy is usually pretty good with his mock, I would be disappointed to not get Long but a elite DT is never a bad thing.  Does anyone even know if this Robertson would even be an improvment over unproven Tank?

I believe that Herm will go after him. I think he would be a good fit. Not to mention the Chiefs haven't done anything so far so why not at least attempt to. I see the chiefs focus in the Draft being O-Line so this does make sense.

Merlin, great point on if Herm attempts to go after him. If he doensn't then thats saying to a lot of people that he is a bust.

We dont take this guy, I see that we're keeping our options open for the draft. In MY opinion, I say we do and have our line look like this; Allen, McBride (if not Boone... I like Boone), then Robertson, and Hali... and if  we have to go with plan C, then it'll look like this; Allen, Robertson (or Boone or McBride. As Herm says... "Let 'em compete!"), Dorsey or Ellis, and Hali! Ouch.

i dont see the point in this one ! if hem can get him here cheap than yeah but the kind of money this guyis gonna want isnt worth it ! we got a good dt last year from bears and drafted 2 more ! i say keep the money and address our other big needs !

He plays for the Jets. And, yes, he's good. He's only 26, but the Jets just traded for All-Pro (when healthy) Kris Jenkins and spent a ton of money elsewhere. They can't keep him, especially at $10 M next year. He's not that good! But he is def a top-notch starter, and could become a Pro Bowler when he hits his prime.

Is he good? I don't see the Bengals play as often as I would like.

Excellent points, and perhaps so obvious that I didn't include them--but should have. This could be one of those things that takes forever to develop regardless, and chances are that it won't. But I do think it is a possibility becuase of Herm.

I do not know, but I bet Herm knows. If he does not make a run at him, that will be very telling.

Keep in mind that Herm drafted this guy.
