Cornelius... THATS what I'M saying... No one in the NFL (players & coaches) goes into and through the season hoping to simply be better than last season... You think DJ or Jared or LJ start the season breaking huddles yelling, "OK, .500 on 3.... 1, 2, 3: .500!!!" NO! The MAIN goal EVERY YEAR is to win the Super Bowl. THATS what its all about. Sure we wanna get better ... but for what? . . . I'll let you guys answer that one.
When you go into a season telling yourself you're not going to win a Super Bowl, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
xxlp & Clinton (from Friday's Free Agency Open Thread)… I get what you guys are saying. BUT I refuse to go into ANY season "KNOWING" that we wont go to the Super Bowl… Sure, maybe the chances are slim and against us. Fine. I can live with that… But Ive said it before and I’ll say it again…. This is a league where there is a THIN line between greatness and horrible… and that line can be crossed ANY season. Look at how close we came to winning in EACH (besides the 2nd Denver game) of our games… Youre telling me that that was SUPPOSED to happen?? Uh-Uh! I never said that Herm is doing a bad job at drafting. I think he’s doing great… but we need to do SO much more than draft well… Such as Free Agency (in which we are sucking air at right now… and in which I’m pissed about). I understand we have a nice grip of guys that we’re gonna draft and probably have to sign… and that we MAY need that salary cap for those guys ( Jared Allen & others)… BUT we’ve signed LB… Thats it? We didnt get Stallworth, Faneca, Vilma, Wilford, Brown… for crying out loud, we didnt even get Florence… and now Bryant Johnson is looking to visit Buffalo… It’s like, I get that Herm is going off the radar for guys… but really. C’mon… Like I said, if we can at least sign DeAngelo Hall, Max Starks, and maybe a solid guard (maybe work out deal for Lito Sheppard) then I’d be a pretty happy guy… But we’re not doing a damn thing…. Moving on… Clinton & xxxlp… I’m not saying that to be "die hard" means to KNOW that your team will make it to the big show… No. not at all. Thats stupid… But have a little faith that we have it in us to make some sort of run towards it. No one gave the Giants the time of day for Super Bowl talk… It was all New England, Dallas, Indy, and MAYBE the Packers… Yet, Ive NEVER heard a "die hard" fan ( of any team) say "Oh, well… we wont be going to the Super Bowl this year" before the season even started. You dont even know what our team is gonna look like. Nor what we can do… A couple season ago, EVERYONE I knew doubted and laughed their asses off when I said we’d go to the playoffs… then next thing you know, I’m watching Denver rank to the 9′ers in the final game of the season… and loan behold; Our boys are headed to Indy… I went back to work that Monday with my head held high, and not hearing a damn thing from co-workers all day. I was proud. And to ME!- THATS what being "die hard" is all about… Never doubting your team, even when times look rough… you stick with them no matter what. Now, I’m NOT saying that you guys DON’T stick with our team… but the doubt kills me. It really does. We ALREADY have the Total Access guys, ESPN, CBS football, FOX sports, EVERY Raider fan, and most people who watch football at that doubting our team… so to see our OWN doubt us, it’s just like "Hey, wait a minute there."
CSF69, take your ritalin. lol. Jeez, last thing we need is another Chief's fan having a heart-attack due to constant worrying over Carl Peterson's ability; or lack there-of, to procure talent into our system. He's going to go after the guys who're young, and not as popular, that's his style. Minus the Ty Law deal, where Law had played for him in NY. He has already said he's targeting an O-linemen that people would scratch their heads about. Really, I don't care what the guys name is as long as he can block better than Turley or Welbourn could have. The linemen could be a 3'2 'little person' as far as I'm concerned, if he can generate push on the line... That's all we need. Just a little crease for LJ to get to the backers and not get swallowed up at the first level, or in our backfield; which was common last year.
steven we are going to have busts ,every team has that ! as for names that wasnt ,,, holmes, law, roaf, dunn, kenneson,!!! come on man proven players more times than not DO work out !
Chiefssuperfan69-Like Kendrel Bell? All I'm saying is I side with the Chiefs on this one, come next season at this time I will be the first one on here saying I was wrong-dead wrong. I have officially crossed my fingers and started praying.
steven they also said the same thing last year and look what we ended up with, come on man there gonna tell us that crap ! they very well may have some talent onhand not saying they dont ! fact is never hurts to have some proven talent either !
Zacho, you mention the Chiefs have 25 million in Cap room, that's awesome. So, they should just sign people for the heck of it? That doesn't make sense. Herm has said over and over, they are going to sign a certain type of player, they are going to build this team via the draft. So far, the Chiefs have done exactly what they said they would. I can't understand how a "true" Chiefs fan could be pissed.
Fact is CARLhater, you, me nor anyone else have any idea how the guys have progressed. Herm said during his post season press conference, that when and IF the Chiefs signed FA's most people would shake their heads and ask "who?" Look it up on the official site, I'm not making it up. I don't think anyone should be shocked that the Chiefs haven't been active, they said they wouldn't.
kc not in the running for lito sheppard ! texans saints bucs rams and jets ! nothing on chiefs and trade ! looks like stahlworth of list too ! browns again ! wow !!!!
zacho has named the talent we have onhand ! thats not going to get us more wins ! the eagles seemed to sighn de so we may be out of that deal too ! and dj cannot be a beast without a o line ,he showed us that last year !
theres no way we have the talent onhand ! we have cut how many ?? we was a 4 -12 team ! there is not that much talent left on the team , sorry thats a fact! fact is we need proven players ! maybee not top rated players ,but proven solid players , and we havent even been trying ! thats what has true chiefs pissed !
Steven I hope that is their philosophy. I think the reason most of us are a tad worried is:
1. We have scheduled hardly anyone to visit KC
2. If they are scheduled, they have a few visits before they make it here. That hasn't gone so well for us (see Faine and Brown)
3. We also have a lot of holes on the roster. I wouldn't even mind if they started filling some of those backup spots instead of signing big names. We need to at least address a few positions in FA , we don't have 15 draft picks.
4. I think most of us are happy with the CORE (DJ, LJ, TG, JA, TH, BP, DB, BW) of players, but when you have 25 million dollars in cap room and you sit on your ass that doesn't make you look like the Patriots, it makes you look more like the Cardinals or the other KC professional team.
I'm surprised some of you guys and gals aren't happy the Chiefs aren't out there signing people. Maybe this means they have faith in players already on the roster. Every year, people jump all over their team for not signing free agents. Then the same people are the first to jump on them when they don't work out. Unbelievable. I for one am happy and see it as a sign that Herm's draft process might actually be working. Have faith people.
Marcus Stroud just got traded to the Bills for a 3rd and 5th round pick. Marcus even reworked his contract for the Bills. Would have been nice to at least considered doing that...
WOW, a no-name FB is our biggest move. I think we need to bring in around 8-10 players to really fill some gaps that we are creating. I know all 8-10 are going to be some average players, but I would at least like to feel good about one FA signing.
Top Brass must see a lot of great players in this draft!! (Since we seem to be interested in no one). I sure hope so! Makes me worried, but we have had some good drafts the last two years. GO CHIEFS!!!!!
From WPIThe Chiefs may have missed out on their top free agent targets, but
filled a position of need late Friday night by claiming fullback Oliver
Hoyte (6-3, 252) off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys.
yeah Roc27, I do not remember Reeves being a solid CB. Infact I remember TV commentators saying he was being picked on because he was the most vulnerable DB.
On the other hand... if we cant land another great CB (and I DONT mean J.Reeves.).... then I would have to look a little harder at the deal with Lito.
jay, you make a pretty good point... I feel the same way. Except a part of me wants it to happen. Ive always liked Lito Sheppard and thought how awesome it'd be if he was a Chiefs... but what I think we should do is try hard to get at DeAngelo Hall. IF we could land him, I'd be pretty happy. Then we wouldnt need to get rid of Allen.
I am going to scream it all free agency....Bring in Marurice Williams (OT/G)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We need O-line help, first and foremost.
KCF56 - Berrian is headed to Oakland last I heard. I'm kind of suprised that he left Minnesota without a deal. They seemed like the most likely spot for him to land, but you never know what's going to happen Black Hole Al comes into play.
yall know the update on bernard berrian i would love to sign him he fits herm's style he's big tall and can catch the ball???????????
Something to consider during all of this....Some wise man once said that Free Agency is the punishment for not drafting well. Think about it.
At first glance I really liked the Lito Sheppard deal considering Jared Allen's animosity toward Carl Peterson, but with a closer look this thing scares me. Lito hasn't played in all 16 game for the past four seasons, and he's only played one full season, his second year. Plus he's only got two more int's than law in the past two years. Don't get me wrong, when he's on the field he's pretty good, I'm just not sure how much you can count on him to be on the field. I realize we could get two picks, but one will be used to replace Jared with someone who likely won't be as good as Jared, and the other will be a third rounder, which has a pretty low chance of working out. I think we can pick up a free agent corner that will be fine in a cover two, as long as he can cover decent and tackle and we won't give up a superstar. On top of all that, we all know Allen is a monster pass rusher, and he's good against the run, but what a lot of people don't talk about is the fact that he's had 10 passes defensed each of the last two years, thats more than any other DL either year, and there are only five or so linebackers a year that beat him in that category. No one is saying it, but we're talking about getting rid of a potential hall of famer for an injury prone CB and two picks. These are the kind of deals people laugh in three years when Vernon Gholston turns out to be a Ryan Sims. On the other hand, VG could turn out to be Derrick Thomas, I just don't think the gamble is worth it.
