Looks like Asante Samuel is going to the Eagles, which would pave the way for a Jared Allen-Lito Shepard trade. From KFFL:

Fri, 29 Feb 2008 09:19:56 -0800Updating a previous report, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Philadelphia Eagles are expected to sign unrestricted free-agent CB Asante Samuel (Patriots) soon. The deal is expected to be more than five years and $47.2 million.

looks to me like the Sheppard for Allen trade will be a go. I just can’t believe Carl is working while on Vacation!!!!!!!!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:21 pmkcrob69, I cant believe that Carl is ACTUALLY ON vacation right now (at a time like this… some GM) … Anyway, Im So torn with that trade possibility. I Love Allen as our DE. He really proved himself last year… but if this DOES happen we MAY have to consider passing on Jake Long to take Gholston And later Otah with Philli’s pick… ouch. I Do like Sheppard, Though. He’s a hitter.

And Jake Long won’t be thereat five, most likely.
And Bill Kuharich, Herm and Ray Farmer, along with guys like Chuck Cook, are handling the football stuff now for the most part. I’m guessing they already know Carl’s feelings on everything and will just call him to sign off on stuff.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:35 pmKind of odd that the Eagles are doing this when Lito is as good as samuels, being that asante lost the superbowl by dropping an int. Not to mention Lito can lock down moss (the most dangerous weapon on two kleets).

February 29th, 2008 at 12:43 pmIf Jake Long is not there at #5, that means there’s an increased chance Chris Long would be. If not Jake Long or Chris Long, then definitely Ghoulston. Much as I’d hate to see Allen leave, this deal would open up a lot of good possibilities – might be too hard to pass up.

February 29th, 2008 at 1:05 pmThe fact that Eagles signed Samuel does add fuel to the fire of the Alen-Shepard-pick trade, also Kearse getting cut too, but I feel that it is too good to be true. I don’t see it happeneing. Eagles were burrned before on free agent DE, see Javon Kearse. Allen wants a huge freaking contract, Eagles aren’t going to pay. I would love to get Shepard and some picks, but it seems too unrealistic.

February 29th, 2008 at 3:19 pmI think if that trading Jared Allen for Lito Sheppard and their 1st and 4th round picks is a good deal for 3 reasons: 1. Jared Allen is not going to resign with the Chiefs because Carl doesnt have the nads to pay him2. Our secondary, especially at corner, is pathetic… Im not saying that Sheppard is going to turn us around but he will fit in nicely and anchor us next year.3. Dont forget that we drafted Turk Mcbride last year… I havent heard much about how he is doing but I know he was a hoss in college.With that said I still think that the Chiefs should take Jake Long if he is there, if not I think we look at DE (Harvey, Gholston, Ellis) or CB (Cromartie, McKelvin) and with the Eagles pick we can target whatever we dont get in the 1st.
