With cornerback Asante Samuel in the fold, the Eagles are now going to attempt to trade cornerback Lito Sheppard, according to Adam Schefter of NFL Network.
Calls are already coming in for Sheppard, a first-round draft pick in 2002 who is still only 26 years old…
Sheppard is under contract for four more seasons, with base salaries of $2 million in 2008, $3 million in 2009, $3.7 million in 2010, and $4.25 million in 2011.

We better not miss this opportunity too. We desperately need a corner and this is the perfect chance. Lito Sheppard is young, but experienced, and very talented. We have already let a bunch of other free agents get signed by other teams that we should have had. The trade I hope for is Eagles 1st and 3rd round picks and also sheppard for jared allen. We could then draft an offensive lineman with the 5th pick and a defensive end with the 19 pick to replace jared allen
It would probably be the other way around–DE fifth, OT 19th. Just my $.02 on who I think will be around.

I do not make this deal. The keys to a good D are stopping the run and rushing the QB. I do not trade Jared, I pay him.

Is he really the best defensive end in the league? He’s up there for sure, but there is a debate. And we could grab either Gholston or Long if we had to do this. It’s in Jared’s hands.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the One Man Gang. It’s just that I love the Red and Gold more.

merlinnj, your comnent in 4… You said that the keys to D are stopping the run and rushing the QB… I agree . . . . to a certain extent! Its A hell of a lot easier to sack a QB when he has no options to throw to.
So, in effect with a CB that doesnt get his ankles broken every down (Ty Law), And can cover good, keeps the QB in the pocket longer or scrambling longer which makes him more seceptable to getting sacked. We need those kinda CBs
Now, Im in the same boat as everyone else. I Love Jared Allen, But Jared Allen is NOT The Chiefs… Im a Chiefs Fan. . If the trade doesnt happen, awesome. We still have Allen… If it DOES though. . . AWESOME! We got a great CB, possibly a great DE with the 5th pick ( Gholston Or Long) and possibly a great OT with the 14th pick (Otah or Williams ). Its Killing THREE birds with 1 stone.

Calm down you silly "dotte/gladstone" bitches! Allen will get his cash, and Herm will get DB talent in the middle rounds. At least that will be the plan. Forget Lito and picks for Allen. Even if you like the trade, nothing that interesting will happen under Carl’s watch. However, I was extra pissed at the less than stellar effort to visit with Faine!!
I am torn with this news. One one hand I am thrilled to think of what the Eagles secondary could look like with Asante Samuel, Lito Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, and Brian Dawkins. Then I remember how often Lito is hurt, and think if the team could get a great player like Jared Allen, then they should just go for it.
ROC…. cornerbacks can only do so much now in the NFL, and it is the other way around… its a hell of a lot easier to cover a reciever when the QB is running for his life.
and for those of you who say this is a great trade… we would be trading allen an A+ talent for….. Sheppard – Proven to be an A when healthy but since not usually healthy = B and then two draft picks who have a 50 50 chance of being any good in the NFL… It is too risky for me
Brett and others, i know what you are saying with trade value but i think the biggest issue is that Allen doesn’t seem to want to stay here. If its pointing towards him leaving after this season thats why the trade makes sense. It’s not worth it to keep an A+ talent around if its only one year, and a rebuilding year at that
