Rumor: Jared Allen To Eagles
By now everyone has heard about the various Jared Allen-Lito Sheppard (he’s only 26 years old, by the way) trade rumors that are all over the Internet. We’d get Sheppard back, the No. 19 pick and another first-day pick (a third is the latest rumor), from what I’ve heard.
That’s a lot to get back in a trade. While it would definitely sting, his value couldn’t be any higher and he might just not want to play for King Carl’s Chiefs any longer. This might be what we have to do. Nothing has been verified, so stay tuned…

I love Allen, BUT this isn’t bad. Sheppard is a good young corner. Another 1st and a 4th. WOW! Lets see.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:19 amohh man you gonna break my heart here !! but for the team as much as i hate it it may be well worth it ! first a fourth and lito shepard is a big trade ! im a chiefs fan first and a j allen fan second wow what a loop you threw me here !! for the sake of the team and our rebuilding stage were in i have to say go for it !!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:23 amI think they should do this trade. That is alot in return. We could solve a problem at corner and draft Long or Gholston at 5, then a tackle at 19, probably Otah.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:24 ambannyc9 , how old is lito shepard ??? any clue ? i wanna say like 28 or 29 but not sure !
February 29th, 2008 at 1:25 amLito is only 26.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:27 amwow seems like hes been aound for a while ! thanks !
February 29th, 2008 at 1:29 amThis could be huge. I would much rather have Sheppard than D Hall. We could easily end up drafting Gholston at 5. The more I look at this rumor, the more I like it. Especially if Allen really is not coming back next year.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:31 amim sure he will be way pissed now and wont come back for sure now so we gotta pull the trigger now imo ! will we still have to pat the 8.8 mil contract if we trade do you know ?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:35 amWow… How tempting is this!? Ive BEN hollering LITO SHEPPARD all week! And bannyc9, I would STILL like to take D.Hall… Thats a killer combination at CB.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:35 ami stillgotta say if the price is right on hall we have to try to land him too ! surtain is getting slower too + hall is a heck of a return man !!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:37 amI only say that because of all the issues that seem to surrond Hall. I haven’t heard that Sheppard is a problem in the locker room. Plus if the Giants are willing to trade their 1st for him, we would have to beat that.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:38 amWhat kind of contract is Lito looking for? Isn’t that why he is unhappy in Philly, because of his contract situation?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:39 ami still like porter [oak]and johnson from az as a wr ! wouldnt hurt to throw our name in th hat for them 2 either !
February 29th, 2008 at 1:41 amIm tellin’ you; Sheppard and Hall. Thats too sick
February 29th, 2008 at 1:42 amive been seeing we may be able to pick up hall for a 4 or 5 round pick ! thats worth it to me ! trade allen use the 4 th from eagles and get em both yatzeee!!! lol
February 29th, 2008 at 1:44 amI was ACTUALLY think Porter too. That might not be a bad idea.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:44 amMan, sometimes I think all of us here at AA should be hired by the Chiefs and take over their front office, damnit!
February 29th, 2008 at 1:46 amActually I wouldn’t mind if Surtain was our nickel corner behind sheppard and hall. Tamba and Gholston at DE, the fastest lb’s in captivity. That could be a sick defense.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:46 amI don’t think we’ll do both for financial reasons. Especially when we could draft Gholston, someone like Otah and then a QB (Flacco, Henne) or WR (DeSean Jacskon, James Hardy) in round two, and then O-lineman the rest of day one. That would be an incredible draft day. And, remember, this is still a rumor at this point.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:46 amPorter is too old, has character issues and will likely sign with Jacksonville this weekend.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:47 amAdam, youre right. He is too old, I was thinking about that just now and he’s f’n slow
February 29th, 2008 at 1:51 ami dont get the whole dumping sapp this year unless it was his temper ! he did show some flashes this year ! if we gab em both we can find another decent corner in draft im sure later rounds im hearing the draft is full of c b this year then dump surtain too ! surtain is eating up a lot of cap room this year too !
February 29th, 2008 at 1:51 amNo on porter, haven’t heard to much about any of the WR’s besides Berrian. Anyone?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:52 ami really like the guy from az though hes got wheels ! johnson !
February 29th, 2008 at 1:54 amyeah you all are right on porter though ! forgot about the whole sitting out and pouting in oakland deal till just now nice point
February 29th, 2008 at 1:56 amI still think I don’t like the idea of trading Allen. He is proven and a leader on defense. Seems wer’re getting rid of everyone and not knowing who we are getting in the draft. If I were in the front office I would wait until the draft to make this trade if Long is not at our First pick.
February 29th, 2008 at 1:58 amIt is ok if we don’t Long at 5 (with a big assumption that this trade happens) we can still get a LT at 19. Clady, Williams, Otah, one of these will be available. We could add a lot.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:00 amanyone know anything about the cb were going to visit with from dallas[ reeves], average c b at best is what i get out of it ! guess ol herm is the best one to judge him though !
February 29th, 2008 at 2:04 amim seeing in other sites that there will be good takles maybee into the 3 rd round and good cb till early 5th rounds ! so i say we have to take best player a #5 spot in draft whoever it is !!! god i hope long is there though hes a beast !!!
February 29th, 2008 at 2:07 amWow that sounds nuts. I would love to get Jared allen, but that seems like an awful lot to give up. I know this won’t go down unless the Eagles sign Asante Samuel. There are rumors that a contract is being worked out right now, and Samuel will be an Eagle.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:39 amThis would piss me off because I feel like we have such a premier player, I’d hate to let him go. But if he refuses to play for us, it’s prolly the best way to go. I mean, we’re getting $1.50 on the dollar for him, I think. It would hurt, but it kinda reminds me of the Portis-Bailey trade. I think the superstar we’d be acquiring is far more rare than the superstar we’d be gaining.
February 29th, 2008 at 7:55 amBy the way, watch for that Samuels-to-Philly trade; I bet this rumor heats up if that happens.
February 29th, 2008 at 8:01 amThat trade won’t happen. The Eagles value draft picks very high and to let two go, plus Lito on top of that, is not like them. Its more likely they trade for WR or for more draft picks.
February 29th, 2008 at 8:26 amThe problem with this trade is that you lose the #5 pick to replace Allen. In the end you gain a 4th round pick and a young corner for moving down 14 spots in the 1st round. Is that really going to be worth it?
February 29th, 2008 at 10:17 amThere is a 825 point difference between #5 and #19. The 19th pick in the 4th round is only worth 64 points so you are giving a 761 point value to Sheppard. That would equal a #23 pick overall. All of this is of course taking for granted that you would be able to replace Allen with an equal player which would be very difficult.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:23 amGuys, would we be swapping picks or gaining another 1st? Read the snippet–I don’t think we’d be losing our 1st…

February 29th, 2008 at 11:21 amIf we draft a DE with #5 to replace Allen, you are essentially losing your first round pick.
February 29th, 2008 at 11:31 amThat Rumor IMO has no merit. That is way to much for the Eagles to give, remember Jared wants top dollar. No team will give a #1, #4, and a star young corner on top of a High dollar contract. If this was true, Petersen would have pulled the trigger already. Just not going to happen. Jared Allen will stay in KC. As he should! GO Chiefs
February 29th, 2008 at 11:55 amthis trade is well worth it. I can see JA going to the Eagles and being far less productive, and to get another first and fourth along with our current draft position, it would be great!!! Not to mention getting the only corner that can SHUT DOWN randy moss, Jared who???? Also most good defensve ends flourish on the right side, where I think Tama Hali would do alot better.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:00 pmbut when it comes to that quick first step ,Allen is the best in football
February 29th, 2008 at 12:01 pmThe only bad thing is, the Giants won a superbowl off the play of the D-ends especially. They were stuck to Brady like genital worts!!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:08 pmAgain, the deal is too good to be true.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:11 pmIf this deal is avaliable then lets do it what are the chiefs waiting for….. i guarentee they won’t find a better offer. Also why does it always seem like the chiefs schedule their FA visits after the players have spoken to 3 or 4 teams…. why can’t the chiefs be their first visits. That seems to be why we lose out on alot of guys we were possibly interested in. just a thought.
February 29th, 2008 at 12:18 pmalso has anyone even looked to see if Carl peterson is here. Becaus ei think he takes the frirst couple off weeks of FA off for vacation!!!!
February 29th, 2008 at 12:27 pmwell i just read that lito sheppard was traded to the cardinals
February 29th, 2008 at 1:05 pmkcchiefsfan56 – Where did you read that?
February 29th, 2008 at 1:54 pmKc56 where did you hear that? and if we did trade Allen i doubt the trade would involve the eagles giving so much up…I could see Sheppard and and a fourth OR a first maybe a second but i can’t see both…but i wouldn’t mind
February 29th, 2008 at 2:02 pmhey does anyone think we can get the same offer from Atlanta for Hall? or maybe add croyle to the mix. then we could possible get Chris long at 3 and Clady or Jake Long at 5 and possible even trade our 2 to move back into the first to get Bhrom. I know this is a very large reach , and would require someone to do some work at 1 Arrowhead Dr.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:02 pmI disagree that we’re losing our #1 pick for trading away Jared. He was a late round pick, and there’s nothing to say we couldn’t replace him with another late round pick. All draft picks are not equal, but they could turn out to be years later.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:51 pmWow. . . No offense kcrob, but thats not smart. . . No. Not really.
February 29th, 2008 at 2:59 pmBottom line BROS! We are NOT trading our pick through FA, unless its like a mind blowing, monster deal.
February 29th, 2008 at 3:02 pmWhy are so many people hoping for/expecting the Chiefs to sign top performing CBs? I guess it would be great to find one that would play cheap, but have you seen the contracts these guys are getting? How much money to we want tied up in cover two corners? Look at the Patriots. Draft a corner, coach ‘em up, make them look good, and let the your division rivals (Law-Jets) overpay them. That eats up their cap space and you keep beating them.
February 29th, 2008 at 7:56 pmOr you can be like the Packers, and ride two great corners damn near all the way to the Super Bowl. It goes both ways, RedEye.
February 29th, 2008 at 8:51 pmI had plenty damn near and almost in the nineties. The Packers run a different defense, and maybe we should too, but the point is, we’re not going to. It just wouldn’t make sense to pay awesome man corners to play in a defense that is built for average corner play. Actually, the more I think about it, the more it sounds exactly like something th Chiefs would do:)
March 1st, 2008 at 3:18 amfrom an eagles fan— the eagles will not give up their first round pick and Lito…… maybe Lito and a 2nd round pick but definately not both…. Lito was a first round pick I believe 5 years ago.
March 1st, 2008 at 6:07 amI do not know what the Eagles will or will not give up, but I do know it does not matter what the player was chosen in the past. If that was how the trade was based we would be giving the Eagle Jared Allen (fourth rounder), and probably a first rounder. In fact, Jared Allen has performed as though he was a first rounder and Lito Sheppard has performed very rarely do to injuries. So if the Eagles really want Sheppard then they will have to give up a first rounder and also a 3rd or 4th rounder.
March 1st, 2008 at 7:14 amI am sorry, I mean if the Eagle really want Jared Allen.
March 1st, 2008 at 7:16 amto be honest, i’d love to have allen provided we knew he’d sign for a long-term deal, but the biggest factor in this trade for you guys would be the picks. lito is a good playmaker, but prone to get burned from time to time and his health is a huge question, especially since he’s so young. the trade almost looks even to me depending on if you get a couple of real players with the picks. get peterson to make the call on this for our sake.
