Price Tag For FA Receivers Not Named Berrian

According to the world’s most famous gnome football expert, John Clayton, it will be $4-5 million:

The next options with deep speed are Drew Carter of the Panthers, D.J. Hackett of the Seahawks, Devery Henderson of the Saints or Donte’ Stallworth, and each one will come in at $4 million to $5 million a year. The Texans’ Andre Davis is also going to make $5 million a year, and no one is 100 percent certain he’s a starter.

I definitely want us to bring in one of these guys–not Davis either. Thoughts?

I’m at a loss on this receiver thing.  We got rid of Kennison (rightfully so) but have no back up plan.  I really don’t see them making a big free agent splash in Receiver.  (Can you say Johnnie Morton…..bust Brett Perriman….. bust, etc.).  I thnk the Chiefs will do nothing and just draft a big bodied receiver.  Say good bye to Parker too.  They may, and I would love to see it, go after Ernest Wilford, a big receiver who can block.  we already have our number one in "SOMEWHERE OVER THE DWYANE BOWE"  GO CHIEFS!

Hahaha! That Was Funny. . . Im all for Wilford, D.Henderson, Stallworth, And B.Johnson… they all sound like viable #2’s

It all depends on who we sign for the OL.  If we get a Max Starks, that will cost us some money.  Carl won’t spend big twice in one off season.  So a guy like B. Johnson could come fairly cheap.  As a side note, saw a rumor where we might be signing Jeff Faine early in the Free Agency peroid.  This would be great.  He could step in day one and start for us at center.

I don’t really think any of those guys are really that expensive for a quality No. 2 receiver. Make no mistake about it, that’s what they are. You have to have a guy like this in today’s NFL, and with the Kennison cut the writing is on the wall.

We probably won’t have the luxery of drafting WR in the draft either, unfortunately. At least before round three or four, which I’m typically not a big fan of, but sometimes it works. The ideal place to draft one would be the front of round two this year. DeSean Jackson and others could be sitting there. I don’tsee the knock on his height, by the way. Steve Smith and Santana Moss are tiny as well.

Adam,  would love to get the site’s thoughts on David Carr.  He was just released by Carolina.  Is he worth picking up and seeing if he can get his career back on track?

  6. 6. Cornelius Says:

Andre Davis is under the radar, so he’ll be a good option for a low pricetag. Plus, great kick return abilities.

  7. 7. Adam Says:

I definitely say no on Carr. I’d prefer that we look at Billy Volek or Byron Leftwich, among others. I honestly think we’ll draft another QB on day one of the draft, though.

As for Andre Davis, uh-uh. Too old, too mediocre. Might as well spend a little more and get the real deal instead.

  8. 8. Jason Says:

I said it yesterday and I will say it agian today, BRANDON LLOYD!!  He catches everything you throw at him.  I don’t wanna hear about him sucking last year, he wasn’t used at all.  He will be cheap too.  Sign him and lets worry about something else.

  9. 9. Jeremy Says:

Deshen Jackson weighed in at 169.  That is pretty light, so he better be fast.  He does not fit the Herm mold of big receivers.  David Carr UGH!!!!  Brandon lloyd, for the minimum, maybe.  Andre Davis at least returns kicks.  GO Chiefs!!!!

  10. 10. Cornelius Says:

Davis could give us a couple good years before we draft and develop a really solid WR. Mediocre? We don’t really need a superstar (we have TG and DBowe), so I think he has a good skillset that will fit our needs.  My fantasy football team’s receiving corps was in dire straits in midseason and I picked him up as a spot replacement. While Andre Johnson was out, he did an admirable job filling in as the No. 1 and had a couple big games(and two back to back kick returns for touchdowns). All the Chiefs need is someone to take the pressure off of our star players.

  11. 11. Adam Says:

I could probably live with Davis, but I say spend a little more on a guy who can be a long-term No.2–like Stallworth or Carter or Henderson.Brandon Lloyd sucked both of the past two years, not just last  year. But he is young and does have upside. Definitely worth a look.

  12. 12. Jason Says:

I don’t really count last year at all he only had 2 catches, wasn’t he hurt the majority of the year?  I look at what he did in San Fran and think that’s what he can do here.  You keep calling for Drew Carter, but you look at the age(both 26) and the stats(Lloyd has better numbers overall) besides Drew being a couple inches taller what’s the difference?  This will be my last post defending B LLoyd.

  13. 13. ROC27 Says:

Im not gonna sit here and say that Brandon Lloyd sucks. Cause he doesnt. He was in a bad spot in Washington. When I remember him with the 9′ers, I remember him being pretty good. . . BUT (sorry Jason) he STILL doesnt fit what we’re trying to do… With exception of Donte Stallworth, the big reciever play is what we’re doing. Prefered scenerio (besides adding Stallworth) : D.Bowe, Gonzo, and Bryant Johnson… big.

  14. 14. Derrick Says:

I wanted Davis but not at 5mil.  I was thinking like 1.5mil.  In this case Bryant Johnson would be my first choice and Stallworth would be my 2nd.

  15. 15. Jason Says:

I look at Bryant Johnson and I see a 1st round bust who hasn’t showed anything in 5 years.  I keep hearing about all these BIG receivers, but how do we know that is what Chan wants in his offense?  We have no idea what type of offense he is going to run yet.  I wouldn’t mind Stallworth because he can stretch the field, I also would like to see us draft Jordy Nelson.  My top 5 in order of who I want either in FA or Draft:1.  Donte Stallworth2. Brandon Lloyd3. Jordy Nelson4. Ernest Wilford5. Drew Carter

  16. 16. ROC27 Says:

For ME, Derrick, I’d reverse that. I’d love to have Stallworth over Johnson. . . BUT in all likiness Bryant Johnson, I’d be pretty happy with as our Numero Two ( Anchorman )

  17. 17. ROC27 Says:

Jason, our Big Recievers (D. Bowe & Tony) are the only dudes getting it done… I think if theres an exception, its Stallworth. No one else.

  18. 18. Jeremy Says:

This is all u need to know about the free agent receivers:http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3266893

  19. 19. Jason Says:

ROC that is because they are very talented, not because they are big.  I see what you are saying about Herm liking the big blocking receivers but Bowe and Gonzo types are not easy to come by.  Just because a WR is big doesn’t mean he will excel in our offense.  I don’t want a WR2 just plodding around getting in the way just because he can block, which B Johnson isn’t very good at by the way.  Samie Parker sucks and needs to go , but I want a guy with about the same skill set, except alot better at catching the ball.

  20. 20. ROC27 Says:

Well, Yeah Jason. . . I dont want dead weight out there either. But the guys we’ve BEEN hollering about DONT suck… Youre pushing for Lloyd so much, when Bryant was in the same situation as Lloyd… A #3 with little playing time. We DO however see eye to eye with Stallworth being the #1 prospect as our #2 WR… So, Im not saying BIG just to say it. I like Stallworth And he’s fairly small.

  21. 21. ian Says:

I don’t think 6 feet 200 pounds is very small, i actually think that is ideal size and that is what Stallworth is
