Since we have a lot of readers who are Mizzou fans–don’t worry, we won’t hold that against you–we wanted to pick their brains about wide receiver Will Franklin. I just got done reading an interesting piece about him, and he ran a blazing 4.32 40 at the combine. Is he a third- or fourth-round pick? Higher? Lower? What kind of attitude does he possess? I’d ask my old man about him, but he’d probably say he’s a first rounder–right behind Martin Rucker, right (just kidding, guys)? I always thought that he never quite lived up to his athletic gifts, but I could be wrong.
Mizzou fans and other Big 12ers, just please be as unbiased as possible in assessing Franklin for the rest of us.

Nfldraftscout.com lists him currently as 4 or 5th rounder whose stock is rising. They sometimes seem to lag behind the prevailing sentiment a bit so my guess is that he’s a solid 4th rounder at this point. I’m not a Mizzou follower so I’m not all that familiar with him. Anybody have a sense of how good of a route runner he is?
The big knock on Franklin is that he didn’t put up big numbers at Mizzou. But that fails to take into account the fact that he was surrounded by talent all over the field, and Mizzou uses everyone equally in their offense so Franklin couldn’t put up the big numbers like other WRs. He has great size, strength, and as you can see from his 40 time, he has speed too. I would not mind one bit if the Chiefs took him in round 3, especially after his performance last weekend at the combine.
I’m the biggest Mizzou fan out there, I’ve watched every possible game the past few years so I know a little about him. His attitude is the only thing that worries me. He tends to whine a little bit when he doesn’t get the ball, and during the KU game Talib got under his skin and he threw the ball at him. He also on occassion has a case of the drops, so his concentration isn’t the greatest either. I’d say the 4th or 5th round is about right for Mr. Franklin.
I am also a very avid Mizzou fan. He is a very talented athlete. I agree totally with Jason on his concentration. He makes a great one handed catch and then turns around and drops an easy pass right to his numbers. He didn’t get the great numbers because of all the talent around him and also because they put the best corner on him because of his size and speed combo. I disagree with Jason on the attitude part because I believe he did not whine about not getting the ball last year. He loves his teammates and just enjoyed the success they were having whether he got his numbers or not. He cared more about the win than he did about his numbers. I have a friend that was in class with him at MU and my friend said he is an extremely nice guy. However the Cheifs do not need to spend anything over a fourth rounder on him because we do not need another Sammie Parker dropping balls all the time.
Clinton you are 100% right about the attitude, I just got that from him on the sidelines(I guess he likes to "mean mug") and it’s easy to get frustrated at Talib. Sorry about the wrong info, I just straightened it up with a writer at powermizzou.com.
