Starting Five: Washington, Big D, Pitt, Tennessee and Seattle

by Chiefs

If you are one of the latter four teams do NOT leapfrog teams in front of you before they have picked. Don’t do it even if you don’t think they are going to draft your guy.

This link or the image button on the sidebar will take you to the official page so you can see who’s been picked thus far.

Pfff. NFL Execs make stupid decisions all the time. Anyone remember that Ricky Williams was worth a WHOLE Saint's draft? Every pick. For one guy. Retarded. You see a guy you like and go for him. Jordy is a fast, big powerful receiver. Whether he goes in the 3rd round, or doesn't get drafted at all I still see him as a threat. =/

Jordy Nelson LOL Dude is a third round pick at best.

xxxlp, true as even the chiefs drafted Hali , when we could have had him with our second pick, and had a very good tackle that year

Taylor, Love this pick.  I think Fred Davis can be Tony/Gates type of player.

There will be reaches- even in REAL NFL drafts, there are reaches. Does no one recall TED GINN JR. at 10? Yikes. =/

Fred Davis-TE-USC- Marcus Pollard probably wont be back for the Seahawks this coming season which leaves a need at the tight end spot.  In Mike Holmbergs last season, he'll be sure to pick the spot on the team that can contribute right away, which is TE.  A lot of people say that the seahawks will draft a running back here, but at the end of round 1, no runnnig back could be an upgrade over Shaun Alexander right now, even though he might have lost a step in his old age.  Davis is the best tight end in this years draft and also an upgrade from Pollard.  Davis will open up things for Matt Hasselback and the Seahawks passing offense.

Thanks, Beard! We will look into the combine list, banny!

Zach or Adam I e-mailed you my comentary and selections incase I am up to draft before 3:30pm tomorrow Arizona time , just so nobody has to wait for me...

Has anyone seen a list of who has been invited to the combine.

And will Ryan Clady be this year's Levi Brown or Joe Staley. Players like Clady could end up goin anywhere between 4-5 and 20-31. Lots of guys like that.

Even some of what we are now calling the more accurate picks could be way off after the combine. Remember how far Quinn, Branch and Jarrett slipped last year? We'll know a lot more than we do now in a week. And yes, this is for fun.

I know you guys want this to be realistic, but some of the posters need a chill pill. Remember this is supposed to be fun and really, who cares if a couple picks are off? I don't see any scouts or GM's scouring this site for inside info. Just make the best pick you can and if someone makes a bad pick that just leaves more good players for you later.

Listen I love Nelson too.  I think he will have a productive career.  But he is no first rounder.  He will be there in the 2nd and even possibly the 3rd round.

Yeah I would like to hear the reasoning for that pick. That's just me though. People have heard mine and can judge based on that. But I havn't seen much on that. Yikes.

It's not that big of a stretch this late in the first.Rucker was a much bigger stretch.

I work in Manhattan and the word surrounding him is that he's running a great 40 time, could be a bunch of BS, but based on that, and the fact he returned very well in college, and the recent trend of K-State'rs returning kicks decently in the NFL (Darren Sproles and Yamon Figurs, just to get the most recent) plus the fact he's a D-Bo style receiver, at least physically, I just see him going higher. I probably shouldn't have picked him, but he WAS picked as a top 5 receiver by Mike Mayock from the NFL Network =/

I think Nelson could go in the second. Depends on his 40, really.

Also you make some great points about Jordy and I would add that he is humble, smart, and a good kid.

I think what banny was saying that there is no way Jordy Nelson will be a first round pick. I am a K-State grad and homer who loves Jordy, but realistically he will not be a first round pick.

I hear you on what the Titans, they do need a WR. I love the idea of Jordy, but I think he will still be on the board possibly even till the 3rd.

What's wrong with the Nelson pick Banny? Name one greater need on the Titan's team than WR... They have a few holes, especially at D-Tackle (if Haynesworth isn't franchised.) But they NEED a physical, big, tough WR. Sort of like a D-Bo. They have the QB/RB/O-line/even a decent young TE in Troupe. But they are even worse at WR than we were before D-Bo, and that's saying something. The top 2 (in my mind) receivers were already picked in this mock draft anyway, but I'm stil drafting by need, instead of the best player on the board.  That's my call to make with my pick..  Jordy isn't that bad anyway, he was slated as a top 5 WR... He might have slipped a spot or two, but he's still one of the bigger WR's in all the draft, let alone the top 10 WR's. And he's fast, as a receiver and returner. Something the Titans have missed since the days of the Pacman.

Beard, busy weekend for us with a film festival and a bachelor party. Non-season Sundays are also typically pretty slow. We'll still probably have the next round of five up tonight, though, if Taylor can get that pick in. And you can e-mail me a list of players in order if you don't want to wait around. That goes for everyone. Kind of mad that I just now thought of that, actually. I guess this is kind of the test run. I think between that and the five at a time we have it figured out. Then again, we may move to polls next time. We'll see...

bannyc9, I here ya, but this is the readers chance to play GM, and we'll let them pick as they seem fit. I think the next time we are going to do all polls. Like two a day for 15 days or whatever. I think it will be a little more precise, plus the comment threads will be awesome.

Taylor, you got Seattle! Sorry, Ian, first come, first serve.

ian not sure taylor up above asked as well... and this was suppossed to be my day to draft... now I get the second selection tommorrow and I'll be at work...fcol

I have enjoyed this mock draft very much and I thank you for putting it on.  But there has to be some veto power when Homer's pick guys like Rucker and Nelson in the first round.  It takes any credibility away from the mock.

With the 24th pick of the 2008 AA Reader's Mock Draft, the Tennessee Titans select Jordy Nelson, wide receiver from Kansas State. The 6'3", 215 lb. receiver will no doubt help out the Titan's weak receiving corps. He will also be able to demonstrate his talents in the return game, and give the Titans something they have lacked since Pacman Jones.

and whats up with the last to eams here...I was hopeing to draft today, and I see Taylor wants seattle

basically people want to build the skyscraper from the top down...lol

i want seattle, if its not too late

so with all those who think a o-line wont get us into a playoff game... you should be the ones saying to draft o-line players... as we could get the exspencive players you are wanting us to draft later rather than waiste thier contracts while we dont have the o-line.

and as for Bowe... yes without an o-line he isnt anymore help than LJ is... name the teams without o-line that win..., guess you think we can do it...

heyZach DJ slid down top us.. he was projected a top ten pick his year go back and look...lol  and as for Hali I dont hate the guy... what I have said about Hali is that he was a second rounder at best... and we could have had a o-lineman and then drafted him with our second round pick... so as for what I have said you should go reread it again...lol

With the 23rd pick, Pittsburgh selects Jeff Otah.  With T Max Starks and G Alan Faneca likely gone, Big Ben will need some protection.  Plus he's a local boy!

I just read what I wrote and I meant Jerry Jones.  I had Jimmy John's for lunch today, maybe that is what I was thinking.   It's time to get some sleep!

Sorry I just got in from work.  With the 22nd pick in the 2008 AA Readers Mock Draft the Dallas Cowboys select Felix Jones RB Arkansas.  Jimmy Jones gets his Arkansas running back, just not the one he wanted.

Lol... what can we do... but wait... for now...

Nope... I guess we just missed something somewhere. You got Pittsburgh!

I said I'd pick for Pittsburgh on the 8th.  http://arrowheadaddict.com/chiefs/aa-readers-mock-draft-list/"jay Says:

I’ll pick for Pittsburgh.
February 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm"Did I miss something?

Like the pick Chris. I think that teams reach to much at the backend of the draft rather than getting the starter/pro-bowler for the next 10 years. I think the Patriots, Steelers, and some other teams do an excellent job at this.

I think we have done a good job lately with Derrick Johnson (kind of a gimme pick), Tambi Hali (even though redbeard hates him), and D-BO (one of Carl's best picks in the 1st round).

With the 21st pick in the 2008 AA mock draft, the Washington Redskins select Calais Campbell, defensive end from Miami. When you get to the bottom third of the first round, options open  up for teams with a lot of needs. More than likey, these teams end up going with the best player available. Washington could draft for a few other important positions of need here but Campbell makes sense. The Redskins aren't going to land a Glenn Dorsey or Chris Long this draft but still desperately need help on the defensive line. Calais Campbell is the next best defensive end out there.  Campbell gives the Redskins a great combination of pass rushing ability and run stopping ability. He certainly isn't one dimensional.  Campbell fills a big hole that could be even deeper after free agency.
