The Oakland Raiders roll with Silver and Black legend Howie Long’s son — DE Chris Long. Now Donovan and our beloved Kansas City Chiefs are on the clock. Is the pick Ryan Clady? What about QB Matt Ryan, who is somehow still on the board? Fan favorite Sedrick Ellis? Local product Aqib Talib? Here’s where things really get interesting, Chiefs fans.
Since this is the home team, let’s really get the comments rolling on this one…

My vote would be for Sedrick Ellis, the big fella. I know we need offensive linemen, but free agency and our 2nd rounder can fix that. The game is won in the trenches, both offensive and defensive. With Sedrick Ellis (and Tamba, Jared (I HOPE!) And Turk/Tank, alongside our great group of backers, (trying to give Napoleon some props here, since I bashed him earlier), we’d have one of the best front 7’s in the NFL. We’d win on the defensive front, and then we’d have to focus on the offensive side of things. Aqib Talib would be nice, but we need those big bodies, on defense And offense.
It is going to be Clady! Any one else and Petersen would be run out of town. He can get no slack for going OT. That’s what he is going to do.
left tackle…is the only choice to pick…anything else is and would help the team as well…but after roaf left LJ’s numbers fell by over half a yard per carry… then the following year with the other will leaving he had his numbers drop once again… and before people cry …*that it was the play calling*… the majority of those calls… were mandated by the o-line being useless… (albeit… the calls could have been mixed better), so by drafting the d-line first will only serve to again get our QB killed, and show LJ another injured season most likely. so please draft a off. TACKLE…we also need a guard…in round two or at least round three… but *FIRST ROUND IS A MUST LEFT TACKLE*, the same people who thought Big Mac are the same people who want something other than a tackle this year…that seems funny…not
I have been one of Clady’s big supporters and one of the first to put him in the top 5. I am just nervous that he is a reach, so I think we should go with Ellis or Ryan. Hopefully, we can pick up some OL in FA. Also 2nd and 3rd round picks could be OL.
trade down to the 10th or 11th pick draft Cladyand grab some more picks at the same timebest option available
This is a tough position to be in with Jake Long off the board. Ideally, I would like to trade down and get Clady. The pick, as I see it is either Clady or Ellis. I would play it safe and go Clady. Reason being, you need a stud LT.
Zach , I to think the best tackle for us would be… Clady, he is the better run blocker and to me anyways is better in pass as well. I dont think Ryan helps us… give Croyle a o-line and he will work here just fine… and as for a free agent tackle , no way, not a second year in a row… I could see Ellis… but to me if they go with Ellis they wont be scoring again this year… and it means another three years of loosing seasons for the Chiefs… as we have only one replacement for the o-line… thats correct only wiegman has a replacement who actually looks as if he can play for us …hahaha and thats true…. we have also got two guards who are closing fast on retirement . all this together makes me see o-line first… we cant keep overlooking what all superbowl teams have… a o-line. even the loosing cheating crybaby patty cake club…had a o-line.
And will people stop saying its a reach… (to draft Clady above a ten spot)… we drafted Hali… and he was a second rounder at best… so lets go back a few years and not draft Hali…lol, I’m just saying he may be a reach for someone who wants a different player… or for someone who wishes all teams drafted by ability… we need a left tackle and we can get one of the top two on the board… we cant pas that up
he’s not a reach but i’d rather trade down pay him a little less and spend that money on J-Allen or during free agency
Can you just imagine the tension in the real draft room if this scenario really plays this way…….personally I think both Ellis and Clady are good options…..I have my own preference but will keep it to myself until Donovan makes his pick……I sure hope he makes the pick because doing the (poll) thing would be tough!…..Good luck Donovan – I didn’t want to put you in this situation by taking Jake Long with the Rams….but it is what it is!
I hear what your saying and if we can we could …but getting another team to trade is the tough part… to me I see the patriots drafting Clady if we dont…. and why not they could use a great run blocking tackle on the right side of that already decent o-line they have. they would love for us to trade out or skip on Clady as I dont see the jets drafting another tackle… they had one two years ago…
Ellis, it is way to high to go with Clady. If it goes this way we may not be able to trade down. We can still get a good LT in the 2nd round.
a good one yes… but we need the better tackle rather than the extra DT
We could use a stud left tackle, yes, but it’s better to have more than one ‘good’ offensive linemen, than one ‘beast’ plus more ’scrubs’. If we do end up signing Lilja or any of the other quality guards out there in free agency this year (Smiley, Allen, Faneca) to name a few; then we will have 4 ‘good’ if not ‘awesome’ linemen. Waters is a pro bowler at LG, Weigman, has been to the pro bowl at C, RG will be the FA we sign, and D-Mac will be better at right tackle than left, and if that fails, Svitek is still a viable option there. He doesn’t have the footwork for the left side, but on the right side he was mauling people. We can stick a second round pick at LT (look at Ugoh for the Colts last year) and do just fine. Especially if our defense has MORE added pressure from just the front four, and can force more turnovers. The popular pick would be Clady, the smart pick would be Ellis. Herm and Peterson have already said they would be scouting around the free agent market for AT LEAST one free agent. We’ll be fine with either of them, but I’d go Ellis…
Paging Donovan… if he hasn’t picked by noon tomorrow this will be a poll.
And unless Clady or Chris Williams has a super combine, I like Ellis or Ryan here.
You know, honestly I don’t see why this is a discussion. Brody is a fine quarterback, with Damon (who has proven himself when he had a decent Offensive Line) at his back. The Chiefs have had the best offense in the NFL for years running until they lost the Wills. It wasn’t until we lost Roaf and Shields that our offense lost a lot of ground. It is VERY obvious that we should pick up the best draftable OT available the first chance we get. And Clady just happens to fit that role. He’s a stud. With a solid O-line, we’re going to the Super Bowl this year, fellas.
My favorite mock, Draft Tek, now says they expect five OT’s to be picked in the first twenty three picks. Up until now, I thought Clady would be a stretch, but I think we need to do it. We may need to go OL 1 and 2!
tackle has to be the pick… and will be… once again people , we should have had hugo… and we cant rely on signing o-linemen… I truely dont see these free agents here with us next year… not with resigning 69, and again we have one back up lineman, with two who are ready ….. to retire in a year or two… the smart pick is not ellis… what we got last year was a good reciever… and also hurt QBs and hurt running backs… the team needs lineman… and not the free agents… we need the young blood.
I’m going to go ahead and draft out of the theory that you should draft the best player on the board and not out of necessity. So that being said I have to select Sedrick Ellis out of USC.
thank you donavan for drafting
and once again the chiefs have a top five pick next year…once again waisting the players they have on the team already.
The Chiefs will be drafting high next year no matter who they take. I like Ellis a lot more the Clady here. Did no one watch the Suoer Bowl? The way to win is with an explosive d-line that can get to the QB fast. Ellis should be the pick
they wont be drafting in the top five
if they draft linemen
and the chiefs havnt won in a while… the way fior the giants to win was with the d-line…
Beard, I hear you on Clady. I think the Jury is still out a bit to see how his workouts and combine go.
He could turn out to be just like Levi Brown who was projected between 10-15 and then shot up because the need for an OT. I hear your points and like I SAID I was one of the first to have CLADY going to the Chiefs.
Ellis and Clady have been the two players the Chiefs have to decide between because I am not sure we would PAY for a top 5 QB. Ryan is hands down the best QB in this draft and is way better than Brohm or Woodson. That is why if he is there you have to take a look. You know that too…….
but as you said why would we wish to have two high paid QBs on the roster… that was another reason we didnt really keep green… thats allot of money tied up in the QBs. and since we dont have a elway or marino , I cant see the chiefs having three big contracts at that spot… and forgett about trading the QBs we have.
hey Zach… the Jets are on the clock…NOW
donovan picked ellis…check comment #20, above
Redbeard… I don’t think you’re seeing the point here. Clady isn’t a top 5 pick worthy of a top 5 price tag. Matt Ryan isn’t really that good. Ellis is a beast. He has the character to be a leader on the Chiefs. If we take Ellis we don’t have to worry about our D-line for the next 7-8 years. If we aren’t able to trade down with some team, I don’t see any point in not taking Sedrick Ellis. That is the reasoning behind my pick.
All year long–all year!–we’ve talked about needing major help at the offensive line, and now we’re thinking quarterbacks and d-linemen? I’m sorry, no. I don’t know about the rest of ya’ll, but all I remember about this season is opening my eyes and seeing Damon Huard and Brodie Croyle peel themselves off the turf. O-Lineman, #1 pick.
Brodie croyle is the future and why should we draft Ellis, he is a good player but I think we should give Big Tank Tyler a chance… I still stay draft clady
Argggggg!!!!!!!!!! If the draft breaks down this way, that sound you will hear will be my foot going through the TV!
Donovan I do see the point…and I tried to say that before… Clady is only a reach if the person drafting wants a different player, the resaoning that you give is valid to allot of people, and I follow what you are saying, but by useing the same critearia that you have done we should go back and not draft Hali as he was a much bigger reach, they had Hali going somewhere around the bottom of round two… again reaching for a player is only so done if you dont think he is as you said worthy, and I think he is worthy of that pick…it comes down to choices.. and today you had the choice…
