Derrick Thomas for the NFL Hall of Fame Campaign
There’s another campaign we’re buzzing about other than the presidential one that’s going on — the Derrick Thomas for the NFL Hall of Fame campaign.
This is D.T.’s fourth shot, and probably his best chance to get in. Regardless of what anybody thinks of him as an all-around player, he was unquestionably one of the top-five pass rushers and maybe even defensive game changers of all time. He deserves to be in the Hall. No doubt about it. He also recently won the 2007 COAT (Chief of All Time) award. Should someone who was voted a team’s all-time best player not be in the HOF? That’s just a joke.
Hopefully, we’ll all hear the good news around 2 PM on Saturday. I don’t want to see my boy get Art Monked.

Lets finally get him in the Hall of Fame!
DT belongs in the hall. I would love to see Johnny Robinson get in as well. I am not holding my breath. There is a large anti-AFL bias.
January 31st, 2008 at 4:30 pmI can see that. Emmitt Thomas also has a shot! Hopefully, one will get in.
January 31st, 2008 at 4:50 pmHe needs to get in! Is anyone planning on going to Canton if DT and Emmitt get in this year? or if just one does?
January 31st, 2008 at 5:48 pmDerrick Thomas was a beast. Ahhh DT, you have been, and will be, missed, and we hope you get in, so your legacy (including that crazy 7 sack game, (wow, awesome)), will live on.
January 31st, 2008 at 7:14 pmI would definitely think about going if D.T. made it. Anybody else?
January 31st, 2008 at 10:45 pmIf DT doesn’t make it, we should invade Canton…load up some luggage into SUV’s, carpool there, and take over the city. Off topic – 45 people think we should take a QB with our 1st round pick…what are those shenanigans all about? 1) I can guarantee it wil never happen and 2) no QB in this draft is worth a top 5 pick
February 1st, 2008 at 4:05 pmI would want to go if DT made it.. And I’m with ya John, lol. And also, no one thought Tom Brady was worth more than anything but a 6th round draft pick.. Looks like he’s doing A-Okay to me, eh? In 4 years we might kick ourselves for not drafting Woodson or Ryan or any of these quarterbacks. I pretty much agree with you, there’s other places we need to go before quarterback.. and Brodie may yet prove to be fine, he has a Brett Favre kind of quality about trying to be a gunslinger, and if this kid is even 1/2 of Brett Favre then I’ll be happy. He needs to be standing for that to ever have a chance of happening, though.
February 1st, 2008 at 5:52 pmjust saw it on nfl network. Emmit Thomas in, DT out. Daryl Tippet made it. He was a good player, but WTF?????
February 2nd, 2008 at 3:50 pmit’s true, DT out.
February 2nd, 2008 at 5:16 pm*sigh* Maybe we are biased. But DT WAS an animal… I mean c’mon.
February 2nd, 2008 at 5:44 pmWe are biased, almost by definition. However, DT was a special player. He was someone you had to account for on every play. My HOF criteria (regardless of sport) is "dominance in your era". DT was certainly a dominant player in his era. IMO, more so than Fred Dean or Andre Tippett. They were fine players, but I think DT was better.
February 2nd, 2008 at 5:56 pmArgh… Well, Emmitt DID get in. That’s good news.
The guys that got in also bode well for D.T., showing that he might have to wait another year or two, but will eventually get in. Looks like it’s Chris Carter and D.T. in 2009.
February 3rd, 2008 at 3:07 pmit is too bad that he never decided to learn how to tackle early in his career…his game was one sided for so long…and as far as the national media goes they see DT as I , and Donnie Edwards see him…and thats a player who in the sack game was one of the best… but as for a HoFmer he didnt have the other stats to go with it. and thats being honest, not degrading.
February 4th, 2008 at 3:02 pmyeah i thank that dt should be in the hall of fame because i mean look at was he has done in his career 126.5 career sacks. – Seven sacks in one game.- 444 career quarterback pressures.- Single-season best 20 sacks (fifth-best single-season total in NFL History).- 558 solo tackles, 170 assist, 728 total tackles.- 45 forced fumbles (Chiefs record).- 19 fumbles recovered (Chiefs record).- Forced two fumbles in six different games against six different teams.- Four fumbles returned for touchdowns (Only two players in NFL history have more).- Three career safeties (Only two players in NFL history have more).- Started 158 of 169 NFL games he was active for.- Won 102 regular-season games from 1990-1999.- Went to the playoffs six consecutive seasons.- Went to the playoffs seven times in 11 seasons.- Played in 10 playoff games, amassing 7.5 sacks, four quarterback pressures and 36 solo tackles.now do thought look like the stat of a hall of fameer i thank so so if any body agrees with me vote for dt#58 rip derrick thomas #58
February 5th, 2008 at 10:45 amhis tackles dont compair to others… go check the stats of the other hof linebackers… look at the number of tackles they had, then go look at what they did in the passing game for coverage… wins and losses help a player… this is true…so do pro bowls…ect., ect. … but in the eyes of the national media… they dont see him as an all around player… *yes I believe he will go into the HOF *(although it seldom seems that I do)… They compare DT to his peers at the time…lol thats just something they say… many players are not voted in this way… just look at MR.Emmitt Thomas… he was maybe one of the top two at his position when he was playing and he is just now getting in… and his stats were great!!!!
February 7th, 2008 at 7:38 pmLove DT. Johnny Robinson Should already be in Canton. What a shame that the pro football hall of fame selected him as the AFL’s alltime safety and to the team of the decade 1960’s nd have not enshrined him yet. Robinson was a seven time all pro and led the AFL/NFL in interceptions twice ‘66 and ‘70. Five time interception leader of the Chiefs and retired as the Chiefs interception leader with 58. Played in 8 division title, 3 league championships and two super bowls with one super bowl championship. HOF stated that he redefined the role of safety in pro football but has yet to be enshrined.
April 24th, 2008 at 2:53 pmGood luck D.T. and hopefully Johnny Robinson very soon.
i absolutely loved derrick thomas, but he had a tendency to disappear in big games
the game in which derrick thomas amassed seven sacks (an overrated statistic) was a regular season loss against the seahawks…he had qb dave krieg in his grasp when krieg heaved a pass to the endzone to win it…you know how marty schottenheimer got his rep for not being able to win in the playoffs? part of that was his tenure in kansas city…derrick thomas played in ten games on those defenses…check his playoff stats & understand why the chiefs never made it to the super bowl in the 90s
please keep in mind i am kc chiefs fan, but that does not afford me the ability to be biased
