Stray Arrows: Solari Resurfaces

First we learned that Bob Bicknell had been promoted to offensive line coach, now the news that ex-Chiefs offensive coordinator Mike Solari has been hired by the Seattle Seahawks:

Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Mike Solari has been hired to coach the Seahawks’ offensive line, the team announced today.

Solari was fired by the Chiefs after the 2007 season. He spent two seasons as offensive coordinator and nine as Kansas City’s offensive line coach before being dismissed following a 4-12 season.

The Seahawks hope to address their struggles running the ball by adding Solari. With him on staff, Kansas City’s rushing offense finished in the top 10 in the NFL five of the past seven seasons.

This all adds up to suggest that it was bad personnel decisions — and not coaching — that led to the offensive line’s woes. I’m glad Solari got canned, but I’m also glad he landed on his feet. He’s not a bad guy or even coach, just a terrible offensive coordinator.
