    • Randy5k : Yeah I think its a class move
    • MadMartigan : I figured as much. its good to see that the apple didn't fall far from the tree in the hunt family. most of me likes the fact that we are being quiet, but the other needs to know.
    • Randy5k : Clark is best friends with Pats owners son hope that helps
    • Woody : Yes, I love it too...Very professional...Randy Lerner has been leaking nonstop and being about as professional as a used car salesman...its sad...
    • Adam : Not yet. Clark is sure keeping things quiet. I like the way he conducts himself. The folks over at PFT are raving about it.
    • MadMartigan : any word how the interview w/ Pioli went?
    • Woody : uh oh....sounds about like what happened to me...I had to call the ISP and have many conversations...
    • Adam : Try refreshing, Randy. Still, I don't know why you'd be having any issues. You use IE?
    • Randy5k : I cant access aa on my home computer anymore anyone else having that problem?
    • Randy5k : I like the way the Chiefs are keeping quiet.
    • Woody : I feel the same way, Adam...I think if the interview is tomorrow then we may know something then or Tuesday...
    • Gump : Pioli looking better all the time. maybe we'll know something tomorrow?
    • Adam : No, I think Pioli is a good bet to come here. I honestly have always felt this situation is better than Cleveland's. The Browns are locked into a lot of bad contracts and have some rotten apples on that team. This is a great spot for Pioli.
    • epic : thanks for the link as well adam
    • Rihavens : I had a nightmare when I was sleeping today that the Chiefs traded Thigpen for a 5th and said they are still commited to Croyle. It was so plausable I had to double check.
    • Woody : Cool...its exciting...You think it is just posturing language?
    • Adam : Here's the AP link: «link» (you can always just paste in links)
    • Woody : Don Banks article...second bullet-point...
    • epic : where does it say that at?
    • Woody : Don Banks says Pioli is "excited" about the situation in KC...Check SI.com for more, or AP
    • chiefsfan3131 : I miss Jared Allen!!!
    • Adam : Haynesworth isn't going anywhere.
    • chiefsfan3131 : I'll agree with ya again about Suggs being a priority, could you imagine the benifits of having him and Haynesworth. I can Dream I guess...LOL
    • Adam : That would be very interesting. Shanny is down in Mexico for two weeks, so we won't know anything about him going anywhere untilhe returns apparently.
    • chiefsfan3131 : But rumors are exactly what they are untill something"for real" happens.
    • chiefsfan3131 : Per our NFL source, Warpaint Illustrated has confirmed that former Denver Broncos Head Coach has an eye on Kansas City. Per that source, he has working through a third party to make sure that Clark Hunt knew of his interest in working for the Kansas City Chiefs.
    • chiefsfan3131 : here is the line:
    • chiefsfan3131 : I read it on Warpaint forums.
    • Adam : I have not heard that, but I can see him wanting to exact some revenge on the Broncos like he did the Raiders for years.
    • chiefsfan3131 : Seperate the GM and HC and Team Pres duties. It is more productive for all. As long as all involved can work together. I heard that Shanny would like to come to KC to coach.
    • Adam : Jared is getting triple teamed. Wow.
    • Adam : Well, we have seprated business and football so that is not going to happen.
    • chiefsfan3131 : Moving away from Pioli might be a good Idea. I am not sold on Bringing a guy in that wants the entire package as Gm and Pres. Look at the track record of those who have had that kinda power. Also we just kicked CP to the curb and that was his undoing as well.
    • Adam : Pollard was better than Page this season. Led the team in tackles and had a ton of fumble forces and recoveries. Our entire secondary is fine, especially with a better front seven.
    • chiefsfan3131 : I agree about Page, We need to resign him and put somebody next to him that isn't as useless as The "Bonesmoker" Pollard.

ChiefStock: Andre’ Woodsen

ChiefStock Logo

Quarterback Andre’ Woodson is a guy who I would like us to take a long look at. He had major success at Kentucky, despite playing on a a team less talented than most of its SEC competitors. He’s 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, has some speed and a great arm, probably the best in this class. He honestly reminds me of a more talented version of David Garrard, a player I love and a player who would be perfect for the Chiefs offense. I still like Matt Ryan better, but that could change.

I think he’ll be a riser, so expect this to be the first of many conversations about Woodson. Especially since I think the Chiefs are just protecting Brodie Croyle, and also don’t want other teams to think they are looking at a QB at five. Consider this “Brodie is definitely our QB” talk a smokescreen. I’ve even read quotes  by both Herm Edwards and King Carl that both question his durability and don’t rule out the possibility of drafting a QB.

It’d be great to have someone like that, but we need to protect our current investment first.  He reminds you of Gerrard from the Jags, but the Jags have something we don’t have. A line. He has time to make a decision, be patient, not turnover the ball, and/or run if he has to to pick up the first. We don’t have that time, Gerrard in our offense would throw about as many picks as he had touchdowns. He would be too rushed, and probably would pull a Trent trying to scramble for his life and get concussed. I think we should trade down at least a few spots, get Ryan Clady, who I have heard through word of mouth is being mentored by Will Shields himself, and get him for our LT spot. For that matter, I’d like to see Willie Roaf or Will Shields as the offensive line coach here. Maybe that’s just me.

  2. 2. redbeard Says:

I have heard that they offered a job to Will Shields, but, that he has also turned the Chiefs down on what ever job offer it was that was made

  3. 3. Adam Says:

The thing everyone needs to understand about trading down is that it taks two to tango. How many teams actually traded down in the first round last year. Three out of 32? Wow, those are great odds, especially considering that teams get scared of drafting in between about 4-12, because the production might not ever be worth the money. These are still businesses, folks.

And our line will also benefit from a steady quarterback. It goes both ways. Look at all four teams in the conference finals. Two have top-five QBs, the other two have two of the best non-first-round QBs of all time. That’s what it takes in today’s NFL.

  4. 4. Steven Says:

Andre Woodson is no Gerrard. He is a pure pocket passer, I don’t think he has the wheels. He is more of a Jason Campbell. I watched Woodson pretty close in the Bowl game they played this year. He has a pretty release, good form, but it takes a LONNNNNNNNNNG time for him to wind up and deliver the ball, almost but not quite as slow as Lefwich. Just my two cents.

  5. 5. Inside the Iggles Says:

Woodson won’t be much in the NFL. After the combine/workouts his stock will plummet, and he will drop the 2nd-3rd round.

  6. 6. Jeremy Says:

One thing is for sure, to be competitive in this league you need a QB.  (Brady, Manning, Farve)  We do not!  We also do not have an O-line.  I am just being realistic, but it will be more than one year and one draft before we can make the playoffs and win.  GO CHIEFS!!!  We can only hope for significant improvement over the next couple of years.

  7. 7. xxxlp Says:

I think if we go O-line, then get a 2nd receiver (especially if Kennison is gone) a corner, a fullback, and fix our kicker and kick return situation, we’ll go at least .500 this year. Then next year we can use our top pick on a MLB, ala Patrick Willis or Lofa Tatupa, I think we’ll be ready to contend.  I don’t think Brodie is great, but give him some time, it was his first year starting, how well did Peyton do in his first year? He sucked. Look at him now, behind that great O-line. Or maybe we could trade for a low-key qb, like J.P. Losman, since they now have Trent Edwards in Buffalo. Joey Harington perhaps? I think the Falcons will either draft QB, or use Chris Redman if he looks good in camp. We don’t need a guy to turn into Tom Brady for us, we just need a guy like Damon was last year, effecient, and who can do just enough to keep Larry from getting 8-9 man fronts.

  8. 8. Adam Says:

ITI, we’ll see. I think his stock will rise, but that’s just me. He fits that McNabb/Culpepper/Campbell/Russell mold that always seems to be popular.

Jeremy, there’s no reason why we can’t compete next year. We were 4-3, had beaten one final four team and were beating another when our franchise player went down. In the NFL you can rebuild quickly. Actually, it’s more like retooling. The Packers could go from non-playoff team to Super Bowl champions.

XXXLP, no way should we pick a second receiver. We should sign one. Receivers flake out in the draft. We finally got lucky, why throw away that luck. And you can’t win a Super Bowl with a game manager at QB. You used to be able to, but now the rules favor offenses. All of the teams left in the playoffs have loaded offenses and strong QBs. That’s where the game is…

  9. 9. xxxlp Says:

We don’t necessarily need a game manager, but we need to be smarter on offense. Too many times did we line up in a power formation, and got beat on the line, and our RB thrown for a loss? Way too many. When LJ had alot of success, was when we spread out the offense, 3-4 receiver sets, Tony G one of them, with one man in the backfield, we ran all day long. Teams have to respect that passing game, or we’d beat them there too. But when we get to the red-zone we need a line strong enough to plow in there for the score. Right now we don’t have that, we’re getting beat up front. We only have two legitimate bonafide threats in DBo and Tony G, I’d like to see Kris Wilson back at TE, he made some nice catches last year (and had a few drops) but we simply couldn’t wait for him to roll out from the FB position, then run downfield on a route. Also, I think our offense got too far away from the screens, that used to be our bread and butter with Priest, Kolby reminded me a lot of Priest on some plays, the shiftiness and patience following a blocker. Even Larry isn’t bad at screens, I remember the 70+ yarder he pulled on Arizona a couple years ago. We play smarter on the offensive side, and get Brodie some quick, safe throws, aka screens, and I think we’ll see some better production.

  10. 10. Adam Says:

I like Kolby, but all I’m gonna say is he is the most overrated Chief by fans right now. he and Jarrad Page. Neither of those guys are a reasonnot to draft somebody better.

And I don’t think we can bet on Brodie. He’ll probably play 12 of 16, if we’re lucky. Great quarterbacks not only lead their teams, they show up every week.

  11. 11. xxxlp Says:

Damon has already showed when he is in a backup role he can come in and light things up. When teams get to see everything he does, he’s not as great (see last year versus this year) And Page, he was a 7th round pick, and he HAS made some decent plays for us. Give him some more time to mature, I think he’ll be alright. Remember he has singlehandedly saved us versus the Raiders twice, with picks in the redzone/endzone. Kolby isn’t a great runner, and maybe never will be, but don’t be so down on the guy, in a backup role he will be fine. And I think screens would utilize his juking and shiftiness.

  12. 12. Adam Says:

I think Kolby is fine as a back-up, occasional player. It’s just when people compare him to L.J., I want to pick up my monitor and throw it across the room. I like Kolby, but this whole anti-L.J. thing has just gotten under my skin, because No. 27 is my guy.

  13. 13. redbeard Says:

does anyone remember when we drafted Hali…lolto me that was the biggest reach…when we needed to get a o-lineman back then or a wideout… that year I sat at Jakes in the northtown area…(great food people) and watched both tackles and the top three rated wideouts sit on the board , only to here the chiefs take Hali… this was the year following us taking johnson at linebaker because they said he was to good to pass by, well then to watch needed players at O-tackle and wideout slip to us, and not take them didnt make any sinse what so ever… I am sitting here in Arizona at the moment and see two great wideouts a extreamly good running back and even a QB, (two QBs actually) and they like the chiefs have no O-line… the chiefs are headed in the direction of the Arizona cardinals… without a o-line the stars cant win day in day out no matter how good they are. watch the new england games brady has all day long to throw the ball…just as we used to have,…do we really wish to draft 2nd and 3rd round talent to sit on the bench with last years 2nd and third round picks…what did we all call them before the season started TNT…

  14. 14. Paradise Says:

The question is not what the Chiefs SHOULD do…it is what Carl Peterson WILL do.  He made it clear at the year-end press conference that his big mistake has been the offensive line.  He will try to rectify that and save some face.  Geez this draft is make or break for us!

  15. 15. xxxlp Says:

While we can find starting talent in the 2nd round (See Tony Ugoh, Indianapolis) and this year’s draft class IS going to be good, at least for linemen, I still think we need a top notch guy, if we can’t nail one or two free agent pick ups on the line, then we need top of the line guys. I’m still wishing for Alen Faneca, or maybe Justin Smiley from the 49′rs (guard) He’s young, and Frank Gore led the NFC in rushing last year, and the 49′rs offense is starting to click. If we got him or Faneca, then we are set at guard, with Waters as the other. McIntosh will be right tackle, I’d like to see Clady at left, and Chris Bober either cut, or given the center position. He’s draining us of a few million a year and he’s been sitting on IR. Not cool.

  16. 16. redbeard Says:

no again people UGOH should have been ours!!!!!!!!!!! ARGGGGG
