The Back-Up Back-Up QB Conundrum

by Rumors

Here is a list of available free agent quarterbacks, compliments of Adam Caplan and Scout:

Quarterback

Aaron Brooks – He finally had a tryout recently with the Green Bay Packers. You would think with all of the bad quarterback play this season (see Carolina Panthers) that he would draw more interest.

Jay Fiedler - He hasn’t thrown a pass in a game since 2005 but if healthy he would certainly be worth a shot.

Todd Bouman – Was recently waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Doug Johnson - Serviceable as a No. 2. Had a tryout for the Jacksonville Jaguars recently.

Chris Weinke – Not sure how much he has left–not that he had much to begin with. He did have a tryout for the Minnesota Vikings recently. Oh, and the Panthers have no interest in bringing him back for another round.

Rob Johnson – Was with the New York Giants in the 2006 offseason but he hasn’t thrown a pass in an NFL game since 2003.

Mike McMahon - More of an athlete than a quarterback at this point. Had a tryout for the Miami Dolphins recently.

Rohan Davey – Strong-armed passer but lacks touch. Had a tryout for the Green Bay Packers.

Drew Henson – Played just one season in the NFL with 18 passes attempted. Had a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars recently.

David Greene – Very productive collegiate signal whose talent hasn’t projected to the NFL level very well. Had tryouts with the Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, and Tennessee Titans this season.

Koy Detmer – Has starting experience and can hold for kicks. Best used in No. 3 role. Was signed by the Minnesota Vikings recently but was waived after a few days. Also can hold for kicks.

I’m thinking either Koy Detmer (for experience) or Rohan Davey (for upside) if we do end up needing a third-string quarterback for an extended period of time. I guess we will know more later on in the week. At least we know that Herm Edwards won’t have to find a third stringer at the grocery store like he was worried about.

I would be pissed if Damon Huard beat me out too...

Lindsey Fax? Heather Copier? Rachel Sharpener?

OK, OK... Casey Printers. I had that thought, too, but my brother and I discussed it, and he had some great points. He feels that Casey has given up the NFL for good to be a star in the CFL. Probably not a bad decision on his part. He has security up North. I actually think he's pissed at us, honestly.

here a namer the chiefs should consider. His first name, could be a girls name. His last name is an office applaince. Can anyone guess? why  not?
