Another Series of Unfortunate Events

For those of you who wondered what rock bottom looks like, look around — you’re there. Herm Edwards‘ latest comments sum things up nicely:

“The plot thickens,” Edwards said with a wry smile. “I know one thing — after the cloud leaves, there’s a rainbow. When that comes, I don’t know.”

What he’s referring to is all the bad news the Chiefs have received during the past few days…

  • Chris Terry’s mother and Derrick Johnson’s father passed away. Both players could miss Sunday’s game. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
  • Donnie Edwards might miss the game due to the hamstring injury he sustained last Sunday.
  • Damion McIntosh could not practice today due to a balky knee. He also could miss the game.
  • Kyle Turley might not play due to his foot.
  • Tyler Thigpen injured his knee during practice and could be pretty seriously injured. We’ll know more after his MRI.
  • Then there is this…

If the Chiefs had played a game on Wednesday, their starting tackles would have been Will Svitek, a third-year man who has spent much of the season on the injury list with a bad ankle, and rookie Herb Taylor, a sixth-round pick. Neither has ever started a game.

The only good news — and it is really, really, REALLY good news — is that Brodie Croyle practiced and is now probable to start Sunday. Please, Brodie, spare us from the unnerving experience that is watching Damon Huard play attempt to play quarterback. Do it for the women! Do it for the children!

Still, with Thigpen injured, and both Croyle and Huard banged up, the Chiefs have a bit of a QB crisis. Here’s what Herm had to say about the situation, and the possibility of entering the game with only two QBs:

“That wouldn’t be wise, I don’t think,” Edwards said. “But we’ll see. Unless we figure the third guy’s going to be an option quarterback and just run the option. You can’t just go to the grocery store and pick up a quarterback. It’s not like buying a fresh tomato. But there are some out there. There’s always a guy out there if you feel like you have to go get a guy.

Will the Chiefs bring in another quarterback? Who do you think they should bring in (Jeff Terrell)? How long before Whitlock starts screaming Jeff George? Is the silver lining that we can’t win with all these injuries and will receive a great draft pick as a result?

  1. CWebb says:

So our 1st string quarterback might come back after being injured; our 2nd string quarterback got dinged up last game (after playing horribly) and was replaced by a 3rd string; and now, our 3rd string has got injured in practice. Awesome.

  2. Zach says:

I say start Eddie Kennison, why not at this point?

Actually, I would like Brodie to end the season so we can evaluate him.
