Alright, we’ve gotten a flood of comments on DeAngelo Hall and the Chiefs, so I figured I’d clear some things up here.
- Yes, Hall can become a free agent if he chooses to after the season. Other than that, his contractual details are still a little murky. If anyone knows more or digs anything up please pass it along. Sometimes Chiefs fans are better than the pros at digging up info. Totally not joking at all. I wish we had the funds to start a research department and hire a handful of you.
- Yes, Hall does have value in Herm Edward’s Cover 2. I’ve read that speedy corners aren’t needed in this system. I’ve also read that it is all about the safeties. Well, our corners and safeties are slow. They may be big, smart, great-tackling defenders, but they aren’t speed demons by any stretch of the imagination. In today’s NFL — one of other-wordly receivers and rules that favor them — you need speed. DeAngelo Hall has speed. Lots of it. He won the “NFL’s Fastest Man Competition” back in 2005. He’s only 24, so you know he hasn’t lost any of that juice.
- Anyone who says that our current Cover 2 or “Tampa 2″ scheme is working is delusional. Our secondary has been getting beat like they stole something all season long despite the luxury of playing behind one of the best pass rushes in the league.
- Hall really isn’t a thug. As far as I can tell he has no rap sheet. He didn’t fight dogs with Michael Vick. He didn’t shoot up a strip joint with Pacman. Just because he’s Black, lives in the ATL and is outspoken against Bobby Petrino doesn’t mean a thing. If I was in his position I would’ve blasted Petrino, too. He’s done a horrible job coaching the Atlanta Falcons, a team that does have talent and also plays in football’s weakest division. Sure, there was the Vick distraction, but that should have almost been a blessing. Players like Byron Leftwich, Joey Harrington and even Chris Redman are better fits for Petrino’s system. The way he has treated vets like Hall, Algee Crumpler and Grady Jackson has been downright disgraceful if you ask me. Additionally, why isn’t he playing Jerious Norwood. That guy looks like he’s got at least a little bit of Purple Jesus in him if you ask me. I got a tad bit off track there, but my point is that Hall isn’t a thug. He lost his cool on the field one time. It happens. Just look at Bart Scott.
Let’s keep this discussion going. How do you feel about the idea of Hall joining the Chiefs? Agree? Disagree? Who else would you like to see us campaign for?
