We Have the Best Fans, the Best Stadium Experience… and the Cheapest Beer

How do I figure? Here’s how:

Chiefs FanA.) As the Brothers Mottram point out, the Chiefs have the league’s cheapest beer. Not only are our fans hospitable (well, unless you come dressed in navy and orange, silver and black or navy and gold), but our beer prices are, too. And, yes, Chiefs games are crazy. Partially because of the booze, but mostly because of the best fans in the league. Which leads me to…

B.) The best tailgate in the NFL. Even though SI.com kind of screwed us on our stadium’s overall score (42/70, 16th overall), they still had to admit that Chiefs tailgating deserves a perfect 10. How can you even argue. In fact, just thinking about tailgating at Arrowhead is making me a little depressed that I won’t be there Sunday.

C.) We have the most loyal, supportive fan base in pro sports. All we have is the Chiefs (the Royals, ha, let’s just skip the formalities and demote them down to AAA), and even though they haven’t been to the AFC championship game since ‘93 or won a Super Bowl since ‘69, every pro sports fan survey recognizes us as one of the best groups out there.

This survey of the best brands in pro sports has us ranked 16th. After reading up on how they conducted the survey, it’s easy to see why we are only 16th — we are the only team in the top 25 that hasn’t at least been to the conference/league finals in the last 10 years. The only one. Comparatively speaking, we really can’t be much more satisfied as a fan base, and are probably too satisfied. The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Eagles are 29th and 27th, respectively. Despite their failures, those two teams have had more playoff success in the last 10 years than we’ve enjoyed in the last 40 or so.

This slightly older survey had us ranked at No. 2 in the NFL. When you consider both that Cleveland lost its team and got one back that blows (until this year), and how much success the Eagles have had, that spot isn’t a bad place to be.

I still think the Chiefs have the best fans in the league. Nothing backs my cause more than the fact that we’ve had more consecutive home sellouts than any other team in the league. As for our stadium, it’s the loudest, has the best tailgating and always sells out — why fix what ain’t broke (even though we are)? Haters.

What does everybody else think? Do we have the best fans in the league? What other bases should be considered? Let us know by leaving a comment..
