Chiefs Fix: The Long Halloween

The Long HalloweenFor those of you who don’t recognize the title The Long Halloween, it is actually a Batman graphic novel which provides some of the basis for the current film series. We thought that it was fitting considering how long we’ve been waiting for a Chiefs game, and also because it’s hump day.

On with the fix…

Texans defensive tackle Amobi Okoye is a distant cousin of The Nigerian Nightmare. Saw that while doing fantasy football research and found it interesting. - Chron.com

Here’s an interesting Herm Edwards‘ quote on recently benched Jets quarterback Chad Pennington:

Chad Pennington is a class guy, a very good player. If anyone can handle what’s going on, it’s Chad. All I know is this: He made me a better coach by being the starting quarterback. When I didn’t go to the playoffs, it was because Chad Pennington was hurt. He won playoff games, he’s done a lot for that organization, more than people can imagine. I don’t know what’s going to happen after this year, but he’s all about football, he’s all about the team. He will be fine.

Very interesting. This is definitely a situation we’ll keep an eye on, as we think Pennington to the Chiefs is something that could potentially happen. - The Kansas City Star

Here’s how Adam Schein grades the Chiefs through the midway point:

B+

Kansas City: The 4-3 Chiefs are one of the true pleasant surprises of the first half. Whenever you can register division road wins in both San Diego and Oakland, that’s impressive. A different defensive hero continuously emerges for Herm Edwards’ outfit. And despite their offensive inconsistencies, Damon Huard, Larry Johnson, Tony Gonzalez and rookie Dwayne Bowe have done just enough in the wins against the Chargers, Raiders, Bengals and Vikings.

Not too shabby, especially considering only 10 teams received better grades. Still, how can you break down our first seven games without mentioning the One Man Gang? - Fox Sports

I just loved seeing that John Henderson’s tag team partner Marcus Stroud had a little help from “Vitamin S” stopping Larry Johnson a little while back. His suspension could really hurt the Jags, however, helping our playoff chances in the process. This is a bad news-good news type of deal, I suppose. - ESPN

DeShawn Wynn is done for the year. It looks like fantasy stud fantasy fill-in Ryan Grant will be the next starting running back on the Packers’ RB carousel. - Acme Packing Company

A very interesting piece about Donnie Edwards‘ San Diego home nearly buring down in the fires. - Capitol-Journal Online

Kansas’ own Smith Center varsity football team put up 72 first-quarter points in a game last night. The defending state champs have outscored opponents 640-0 this season. That’s domination. - ESPN
