Back From “The Abyss” (Aka the Bye Week)

The AbyssPhew… While it was nice to finally have a little break from constant Kansas City Chiefs blogging, we’re glad to be back blogging the Chiefs for the stretch run. Yesterday, Zach and I had nothing else to do except torture ourselves by watching our futile fantasy rosters underachieve courtesy of NFL Direct Ticket. Sunday sure was cold without the Red and Gold, I know that much. Especially since the World Series kept us from getting a Sunday night game (who watches baseball over football, anyway?).

We’re back, and this week we actually have an opponent. No more State of the Union Addresses or rankings (both are good discussion pieces, though), because this week we play the Green Bay Packers. I have good news about that match-up, too. I heard that Monday Night Football road teams that play on the road again the following Sunday only win about 10% of the time yesterday. The analysts were talking about the Colts, but next Sunday the Packers will also be one of those teams. I wonder how those odds change when you consider that the home team is also coming off a bye week. I don’t care that Brett Favre has never beaten the Chiefs — things aren’t looking good for the Pack. Especially when you consider how hard it is to win on the road in the NFL sans an effective rushing attack.

Tonight’s Monday Night Football contest should be of great interest to all Chiefs fans, because it features our next two opponents. I know that I’ll be watching. Hopefully, the Packers can go in there, not lose by a last-second field goal and steal a win. That way we can keep our lead on the Denver Broncos and remain in first in the AFC West (we own the tiebreaker over the Chargers… for now at least).

Today’s other note of interest is that we are apparently interested in big defensive tackle Grady Jackson. While Chris from Arrowhead Pride isn’t too high on this move, I think we still need help at DT, especially against the run. I’ve always called Grady “Gravy” — that’s how big dude is. I think he could help our defense out. Hey, it’s not like James Reed, Ron Edwards and Tank (more like Humvee, so far) Tyler have been all that impressive. Alfonso Boone needs some help. And don’t worry about the Falcons cutting Jackson. All of the veterans were pissed about the move, and it’s obvious that new head coach Bobby Petrino is going young. Algee Crumpler and DeAngelo Hall probably won’t even be on their roster next season.

I’ll chime back in tonight either during of after the big MNF game with some thoughts on the Chiefs’ next two opponents. It’s good to be back, Chiefs fans.

I agree,  we do need help at Defensive Tackle.  It would make for a good rotation at the very least.  I'm glad the Pack beat the Donkeys,  but next week we shall have Brett Favres head stuck on a pig pole.  Sincerely,  Chief Tom

Hopefully our bye this week will do us some good.  It will be interesting to see if Holmes will actually contribute this coming Sunday.  Hopefully LJ and PH will put on a show and beat the Pack.
