Michael Bennett Traded to the Bucs

Michael Bennett (ESPN)Michael Bennett is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, more details as they come. Immediately, three things come to mind here: A.)Michael Bennett has been a disappointment; B.) We are looking to get Kolby Smith more burn; and C.) Priest Holmes‘ comeback is pretty legit.

Facing what soon could be an excess of running backs, the Chiefs traded Michael Bennett to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night.

What the Chiefs received in return was immediately unclear. The Chiefs declined to confirm the deal, but Bennett said he was informed of the trade by officials of both teams.

“It was a shock to me,” Bennett said. “It really caught me off-guard. I heard the speculation for the past few days, but nobody from the Chiefs said anything to me, so I guessed it wasn’t going to happen. I was wrong. It’s a business. It’s just one of those things that happen.”

Although he was the starting halfback during Larry Johnson’s training-camp holdout, Bennett quickly became expendable once Johnson signed his contract extension. Bennett played sparingly in recent games, and rookie Kolby Smith has been getting more snaps in practice recently, an indication he was about to encroach on at least some of Bennett’s playing time.

Whoa, that came as a shock.  Your assumptions must be on the money, because it seems odd to trade an experienced backup when you're riding your starter so hard.  Maybe I'll feel better when I hear what they got in return.

I like the idea of this trade, even though I am not counting on Priest. To me, this looks like a vote of confidence for Kolby. I love the idea of stockpiling picks. Does anyone know what we got in return? I am hoping at least a 5th round pick. Anything above this is a steal, IMO

I would think since we held all the cards in this deal that would at least get a 4th rounder for him.  If I'm not mistaken, that is what we gave up for him year or so ago.  This is a great move in my estimation.  He wasn't valuable to us, but is to Tampa Bay.  WELCOME BACK PRIEST!

Holy shit, after months of denying it… is Priest really coming back? I honestly can't F'ing believe this. -cw

This trade is good.  Beenet is 29 will be 30 next year and has not done much.  We will probaly get a 5th rounder or 6th rounder which we will use on another younger back.  Smith will be #2 and Holmes will go to #3 until he can show us he still has it.  Go Chiefs

Rumor is that we will recieve a high pick like a 3rd or 4th and give up a 6th and Bennett.

If we got a 3rd I would be estatic!

I’ve heard a conditional second-day pick. We’ll post when we hear official news.
