Well, it looks like Priest has upped his health by eight percent. During training camp he told Dick Vermeil that he was at about 82% health, now he is at 90.
“I’m about 90 percent now,” he says. “I’m ready to go.”
Joe Posnanski bascially goes on and on about how Priest is such a great running back (no one took that away from him) and how LJ just needs to be more like Priest. Problem is that they are not the same player. Its like comparing Marshall Faulk and Eddie George, Walter Payton and Jim Brown. All of these guys have different running styles and played with different players.
Posnanski also agrees with Priest that LJ isn’t being creative enough, but I think most of us would blame the offensive line and playcalling which he says is getting old. I agree with other Chris at Arrowhead Pride, that it seems its hard to be creative, run harder, and be better when guys are literally on top of you when you are getting the handoff. Again, Al Saunders/Dick Vermeil offense compared to that of Herm Edwards/Mike Solari. They are different and both do different things. (I know very few people complain about the defense compared with the Vermeil era).
“I talk to Larry about being more creative,” Holmes said. “I think that’s something he needs to work on. When the other team is putting everything to trying to stop you, you can’t get frustrated. That’s the worst thing you can do. You have to study them and find their weaknesses, and exploit those. There are no excuses. You have to find a way to get yards. And when you get your opening, you have to hit the home run.”
I do agree with Priest that LJ showing the frustration is not the positive way to go about things. He is now considered a superstar RB and he is getting paid, he needs to demonstrate being a leader by keeping in-house issues in house. If he doesn’t want to talk to the media after the game, who cares? But if he wants to yell at his teammates and coaches then that will only create issues. I look for LJ to get going this week against a weak Cincinnati defense (I know, I know, I was a week early. I was just trying to be optimistic since so many think I am always negative).
