L.J. Quotes

Larry’s Roc (Courtesy of KCChiefs.com)The Star’s Adam Teicher has a nice little column on Larry Johnson’s frustration with the running game, the coaching staff and the playcalling from the first three games of the season. Here is what L.J. had to say:

On his outburst on the field that cost the Chiefs a five-yard penalty:

“It was an emotional game,” Johnson said. “Football has always been emotional to me. You tend to act out when you get frustrated.

“I came over to the sideline (earlier in the game) and the defensive players are, ‘Hey, why don’t you say something (to the coaches)?’ For a couple of series, I didn’t say anything,” Johnson said. “After a while, it became too obvious what was going on and I had to say something. I had to give my input.

“When a player comes up to me and says, ‘Why don’t you go say something?’ obviously I’m not becoming a detriment to the team.”

On Damon Huard yelling at someone on the sideline:

“I didn’t know Damon was yelling at whoever he was yelling at. I was yelling at whoever would listen. You’re at a point where people are preaching, ‘You have to win, you have to win’ and everybody kind of acted out in their own frustrated ways.”

His comments about last year’s MVP, LaDainian Tomlinson, having less rushing yards than him this season, which the two RBs will face off this Sunday:

“I feel bad for L.T. right now, him coming off the NFL MVP and the rushing leader and being almost dead last, right by me,” Johnson said. “I know he’s frustrated. Things are happening with him.

“You don’t feel sorry for him, but you do understand his pain.”

I am starting to think maybe a few preseason games would have helped these two players. I think both will eventually get things rollin’, but so far teams have dared both teams to beat them with the passing game. I Every Chiefs fan thinks the Chiefs will need to come out stretching the field early in the game to help L.J. find some holes or it could be the same old story. Against the Chargers we will have to score more than 13 points to win that ball game. I think 20-23 points will be the number that will get it done this week. Stay tuned for predictions later in the week…
