Is This Really How the Sports World Views Us?

Overreaction Nation (ESPN Page 2)

Thought this was funny… This picture from ESPN Page 2 has a Chiefs player about to get trained damsel-in-distress style. Ouch. How the mighty have fallen, I guess. If we go from an ‘06 playoff team to dropping our home opener to the pathetic Vikings, giving us an 0-3 overall record, yeah, it will be warranted. Then again, it might take a season that bad to stop picking in the 20s come draft day. Still, I think we clobber the Vikes this weekend. This scenario is eerily similar to last year’s third game against the 49ers, and that game wasn’t even the home opener. The final score of that contest no contest — 44-0.

Feel better now?

No, then take a gander at this (sorry, ladies)…

Kellie Croyle (Chiefs Planet)

I thought a little Kelli Croyle would give you a little bit of your bounce back.

Now Kelli does have that schwing factor. Now that I have…. ummmm, risen to the occasion, let me take a crack at this. Yes, we do overreact quite a bit.  Some posters here and on other sites are ready to fire Solari, Herm, Carl, Gunther etc and bench Huard, Parker etc, etc, ad nauseum and I mean nauseum. Fortunately, the Cheifs organization takes a somewhat longer view. At some point, the season might be lost to the point where you have to play people like Croyle, Webb, Sippio more to see what you have and if they can develop. Now is not that time. The Solari thing is really interesting. Fans condem him for being boring, predictable and running too much. Then, he goes ahead and passes on 3&1 and gets condemmed for not running. I wish the offense was a bit more open, but I think it will be if we can get LJ going and work in play action. I am not over optimistic, but we will see what happens. Remember, you are never as good as you look when winning big or as bad as you look when losing bad. The NFL talent level is just too close. If you add a young franchise left tackle, we look a whole lot better.

My issue with Solari is that he runs draws on third and long all the time and mean ALL  the time. Or plays that have about 10-15% chance of working on third and long. Then on 3 & 1 when you have arguably the hardest runner in football, a guy that always can get a yard and then you throw it. I think that is the main reason why people are upset with his playcalling.

Hell even Herm said he is "learning on the job." In the NFL you don't really have much time to LEARN on the job, maybe a year at most. I don't hate Mike as a person he is one of our hardest working coaches, but I have hated his play-calling. He is a GREAT offensive line coach and I feel he is better doing that for an organization than calling plays at this time. Who knows that could change, but if it keeps going down the path it is going we might want to think about a change.

I have no problems with Herm because it takes a coach 3 years to really get a team he has built and show what he can do with it. So please people spare me with the FIRE HERM speaches.

I agree, a coordinator should be promoted because he is ready for the job.  Not to learn the job.  Not sure how often O-line coaches become successful coordinators but you'd think you would save that job for a successful QB coach….

  4. Zach says:

Exactly. Solari is not Herms man. Everyone wanted Solari to stay because we thought he would try and keep the same offensive scheme intact, but boy did he throw that out the window quick. I believe no matter what Solari will be fired at years end or sooner.

  5. redbeard says:

Zach he didnt throw it out the window…lol…herm told him to change it up… (simplify the off.) those are herms words…*SIMPLIFY THE OFFENCE* TO ALLOW THE RECIEVERS A BETTER CHANCE AT GETTING ON THE FIELD…….. and why do people want to kill LJ… behind this O-line he wont break 1000 yards this year…(rushing),… And I dont think having Croyle as a QB right now even, would be giving up… I'll take an interception a game if it means that they can send some people deep and let them catch a ball that isnt floated !!! …   that will force teams to stay a bit back and maybe allow LJ some room… as it is even on pass plays they still crowd the line as we cant throw deep… it doesnt have to do with Kennison being out or not… huard cant throw DEEP!….. look at last week with parker… he was there but by the time the ball got there so did the corner…. and as for solari… if people dont know, the year following Priests big TD year it was solari who chose the red zone plays that year… (and yes we had the still powerful o-line…) our red zone officiancy dropped off a bunch!!! … and two of the top three draft picks has to be O-line…  and as for firing KING CARL hell how many five year plans are we to go thru…rotflol… if the blame starts at the top then its KING CARL.   period.

I'm using this thread to say that I am officially OVER Kelli Croyle. She's lost her appeal over the last few weeks.

I told you October was way hotter :)
