Chiefs at Texans: Post-Game Thoughts
Like one of our favorite commenters, merlinnj, put it after the first half, “wow, that was ugly.”
The offensive line was putrid. The receivers dropped balls. There were too many unnecessary penalties. Damon Huard made one of the worst throws I’ve ever seen a quarterback make. The defense didn’t play as well as some might think they did either. I’m sorry, but that wasn’t exactly the Indianapolis Colts’ high-octane offense that moved the ball at will against us today. The Bears defense is looking beastly today, so it could be a long day for Huey and the boys next Sunday. Let’s just hope that Damion McIntosh and Eddie Kennison can play, because without those two our offense looked downright awful.
Heroes:
Dustin Colquitt - Always on top of his game.
Dwayne Bowe - Stunk it up in the first half, but showed why we drafted him in the second half. He’ll only keep getting better and better.
Alfonso Boone - The big former Bear played the best out of all the Chiefs defensive lineman, save maybe Tamba Hali.
Derrick Johnson - I liked the way he was flying around the football field. Solid effort.
Zeroes:
The Offensive Line - This unit was thoroughly dominated by the Texans young defensive line.
The Coaching Staff - Offensively, we couldn’t have looked any worse, we turned the ball over and were hit with several costly penalties. Some of the sloppy play has to be pinned on the coaching staff.
Bernard Pollard - You do not let a wide receiver with Andre Johnson’s speed get behind you like that. Ever.
Damon Huard - Good quarterbacks don’t throw that second interception. That was Joey Harringtonesque.
More to come, as I’m still digesting this one, and it’s not going down very easily…

I apologize most profusely to the Texans for placing them 30th in my power rankings. They must have a Super Bowl-caliber team - otherwise how could they have beaten a juggernaut like the Chiefs?
September 9th, 2007 at 3:44 pmok been busy… but hey the shank… give the guy some credit for
as for bowe he needs to make
September 9th, 2007 at 3:55 pmgetting it away and I'm glad houston didnt pressure the kick … the
snap was bad and he got a decent short legged kick there …. What
suprised me was that parker actually caught the ball… dont hate when
he actually *CAUGHT * the rock… I dont blame wilson from the way I
saw it that was a helmut…*NOT*!!! …
TD drives to make up for not getting a O-LINMAN… (I know it isnt his
fault), he didnt pick himself for us…hahaha, did I see it correctly
when we started the game we had BIG MAC… and then something happened
to him or he got tired as we had our deff. end playing left tackle
again *and by doing so if you watched … watters cant make up for the
left tackle as he was trying to… he did a great job , but having to
help on the left side kept him from playing the guard spot correctly.
typical overreaction over here at AA. guys, we all knew we were going to suck this year. put croyle in, and just let him develop for next year. our offensive line played decent, the problem with our offense is the combination of solari/huard REFUSE to throw the ball deep, and insist on dumping the ball off EVERY FREAKING PLAY. it is partly huards arm strength (or lack thereof) and partly solari's conservative nature, but hopefully when (if?) croyle goes in we launch it deep.
September 9th, 2007 at 4:03 pmI'm not to sure that was Pollard's man on the long TD. Wesley bit hard on the play fake and his deep middle was were Johnson caught the ball. Typical Wesley!
September 9th, 2007 at 4:30 pmI am sick absolutely sick!!!!!
September 9th, 2007 at 6:41 pmPollard got burned, but that's going to happen when it's a young safety in single coverage against a very underrated superstar receiver. Wesley did bite on the play fake and Pollard didn't commit when he needed to. That was his only bad play of the day. Huard is the problem. If they put 8 in the box, we have to be able to throw downfield. We can't with Huard.
September 9th, 2007 at 7:25 pmWell after a dismal start what do we have to look forward to. We really need to go ahead and play Croyle and lets finish this season already. If we are gonna suck at least we can build for the future. I really hope we go completely in the tank and go 1-15 or 2-14 or somewhere close to that becuase we need some good high draft picks so we can start rebuilding this team. And I DON'T WANTA SEE CARL HERE NEXT YEAR! I really hope Clark wakes up and gets us a GM that not afraid of rebuilding and is only interested in keeping people in the seats and short-changing us fans. Its beginning to be alot like the Arizona franchise around here. The bidwells have been known for their futility. If this keeps up we will be mentioned in the same sentence with these teams. I am just really tired of the mediocrity.

September 9th, 2007 at 7:42 pmSorry to burst your bubble but I think that the Chiefs will actually be worse than the Raiders this year.
September 9th, 2007 at 7:48 pmCroyle would get absolutely murdered out there behind that o-line. I'd be impressed if he lasted a game.Medlock sucks.Coaching sucks. Too predictable.I'm not going to blame Pollard necessarily too much on that TD, playing cover 2 has disadvantages, like ending up with one of your young safety's on Andre Johnson 1 on 1.
September 9th, 2007 at 8:34 pmTo think we did that bad against Houston. The season is really over if they continue to play that bad.
September 10th, 2007 at 7:31 amUuh, Joe. Hate to burst your bubble, but I think we all already knew that. Captain Obvious much?
September 10th, 2007 at 9:06 amI'm not keen on Mike Solari's choices. I'm unsure how much Herm's conservatism plays into the gameplan. What I do know is that we don't have the weapons on the offensive side of the ball to play a "take what the defense gives us" sort of gameplan. We have to be more aggressive in attacking their weaknesses.Twice in the first quarter LJ and then once MB ran to the left side for gains over 6 yards… WHY on EARTH did we abandon the run… moreso… Where was the play-action pass??? These little 2 to 3 yard slant patterns and dumpoffs underneath aren't going to work in Week 4. Once a defensive coordinator worth his job get's the film and breaks down our tendencies, we're going to be as predictable as an episode of Scooby Doo.The offense appears to be playing scared. There seems to be no desire to dominate their opponents, to punch them in the mouth and enforce our will. Field position football (Herm's game) only works if you're able to execute the gameplan. It's a huge detriment if you get the ball in poor field position and you go 3 and out and then give it back to your opponent. At this point they're not executing and it's brutal to watch.
