What are your predictions for the Chiefs this year? 10-6 or 6-10? I gave up such predictions several years ago when I realized I couldn’t be objective about my team. I would always end up with some variant of 14-2 even in the days when Steve Bono or Mark Vlasic were playing.
When friends ask me now, “Hey Mark, how do you think the Chiefs are going to do this year?” I simply comeback with a stock answer: “It may be touch and go for a bit, but I think they’ll surprise a few people.”
I can confidently say that sentence has been true for the last 16 seasons.
A survey of the various opinions about the Chiefs for the 2007 will quickly reveal that nobody really gives the Chiefs much of a chance this year to even be moderately successful. Most power rankings have them among the bottom five teams in the league. This is a very common pre-season ranking for our team and I can objectively say that aside from 2001 and 1998, it has been consistently wrong.
This year the twist seems to be that we have no quarterback and that our running back will be carted of the field by week four. Well, our no-quarterback did go 5-3 last year with an offensive line that might have been worse than the one we’ll field this year (assuming Damion McIntosh is healthy). I’ll be shocked if LJ doesn’t have another stellar season, rushing the ball 350-380 times.
2007 will be an interesting year… nobody is expecting anything from our defense, so that may be where the biggest surprises come. So, like I said, I won’t make any predictions, but if we do go 14-2… don’t say I didn’t warn ya…that would be quite a surprise!

Larry Johnson is a horse and will be just fine. Damon Huard will get better as the season progresses. The difference between 10- 6 and 8-8 will be the defense. An improved Defense could squeak us into the playoffs. However, (although it pains me to say so), we will go 9-7 as our schedule is just too difficult. I hope they prove me wrong.
Jeremy, it is hard to argue with your logic. Our team will rise and fall with the play of our defense, and I really do believe they could be a top ten defense…if that is true and LJ is fine then 10-6 is not as much as a long shot as some of the pundits might think. But it will probably take a few timely turnovers or an opponent not being as good as we think they are to put us over the top…I'm ready for such a turn of events!
Problem is 10-6 might not get us into the playoffs this year. As long as we split Denver and San Diego we ill be just fine. When looking at our schedule I see us at 4-3 at the bye week. After that we should only suffer 2 or 3 losses. At Indy will be tough as will at Denver, but Detroit, Jets, Tennessee, Oakland, Green Bay. These should all be wins. Denver and S.D. after the bye will make or break our season.
I agree. As long as we can play well against the Broncs and the Chargers, they may come out fine. These two teams, along with the Colts are about the only real road blocks. As long as they put their hearts into it and not make any dumb mistakes on the field, we might go 10-6, but that may not be good enough to make the playoffs. If we do make the playoffs, I don't see them going very far after that.
I could easily see the lack of depth we have on the offensive line, WR corps, or defensive backs really hurting us.We have a tough schedule, and even against teams we think we should beat easily, we tend to 'play at our opponents level'. I could easily see us losing to teams like the Texans, Browns, etc, due to such conservative strategy of always trying to win the game late, letting the other team hang around, and generally playing to your opponents level.7-9.
