According to TSN, the Kansas City Chiefs have cut quarterback Casey Printers. The Chiefs offered him a spot on the practice squad, but he declined. Reportedly, Printers will attempt to sign with another NFL team within the next week. If that doesn’t happen he will likely return to the CFL.
What happened? This move was completely unexpected. After all, Carl Peterson sacrificed having Jason Dunn on last year’s playoff roster specifically to keep Printers from being signed by another team. Then he improves pretty dramatically this offseason, and the Chiefs respond by releasing him and offering him a spot on the practice squad, where he wouldn’t be protected? That makes absolutely no sense.
Unless the Chiefs are more interested in another quarterback.
Now, if that’s Jeff Terrell, then they watched a different set of preseason games than I did. Either that, or he played a helluva lot better during practice. If the Chiefs cut Printers for Terrell with our QB problems, then they really are the Cheaps. Hopefully, that’s not the case, because Chiefs nation will be pissed. Printers has a lot of fans out there.
On the other hand, if this is a precursor to a Byron Leftwich move, then I’m all for it. How soon can he be in Kansas City? Is he already on the plane? Does he have a playbook yet? A locker? Somebody tell Justin Medlock he has to give up his No. 7 jersey.
We’ll surely know more about this tomorrow, but as of now I’m worried that the Chiefs ditched Printers in favor of an Ivy League ass clown.
