The COAT Great Eight: 1. Len Dawson vs. 8. Otis Taylor

We all know all about Len Dawson, so here’s the scoop on his favorite receiver Otis Taylor:

  • When he retired he held almost every Kansas City Chiefs receiving record.

  • Twice topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a season.

  • Led the Chiefs in receptions (season) five times.

  • Made possibly the biggest play in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl IV victory — a physical, highlight reel-worthy 46-yard TD catch.

  • Was a three-time All-Star (AFL and NFL).

  • Dawson said the following quote about Taylor, “Otis made my job easy.” Those are strong words coming from the No. 1 seed in this entire tournament.

  • Only played for the Chiefs.

I don’t expect Taylor to challenge here, but it’s nice to have finally arrived at the point of The COAT where nearly every player left has a chance to win the entire tourney. Tony G vs. Will Shields promises to be the best match-up so far. Priest Holmes vs. Willie Lanier is another match-up that could go either way.

We are getting down to the nitty gritty here, so in addition to voting you might have to campaign for your favorite candidate by leaving comments. Let us and our readers know why your guy is worthy of The COAT designation.

Len Dawson v. Derrick Thomas in the finals. Thats my prediction. Lenny wins it too.

  2. 2. Zach Says:

What about Tony G? If Lenny is allowing Taylor to get 8 votes, I think Tony G will have a good shot at knocking off the number 1 seed.

  3. 3. Chris Says:

No doubt it will be close.

  4. 4. Adam Says:

Tony has to get by Big Will first, and Otis is still within striking distance.

  5. 5. redbeard Says:

dawson,vs. shields…and holmes, vs. thomas or buck…the final four…and both final matchups will be tough…for everybody.

  6. 6. Adam Says:

Don't count Tony G out. He's probably the only Chief ever who is arguably the best player of all time at his respective position.

  7. 7. redbeard Says:

THATS A TALL LIST… HE MAY BE UP THERE BUT THE #1 BEST I'M STILL NOT SURE ABOUT…SHIELDS IS LIKE HOLMES PEOPLE LIKE THEM… AND IT WILL BE CLOSE BUT I THINK SHIELDS WILL PULL IT OUT.
