Jared Allen’s suspension cut in half!

UPDATE 9:25 CST: Thanks to a heads up from loyal reader Redbeard, we can go ahead and make this official — Jared Allen’s suspension has indeed been reduced by the NFL to two games! Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star actually came out of hiding (which is presumably to give his new hair plugs time to properly grow) to break the story. Honestly, I haven’t even been over to the Star since Friday, mainly because the last Kansas City Chiefs piece the site ran appeared on July 8, and the next latest came out on June 26. Yeah, they are really slipping. Jason Whitlock has a new piece out as well. I’ll look at that tonight and give my two cents on the column tomorrow. - “Suspension of Chiefs’ Allen reduced to two games” - K.C. Star

Like I said earlier, this is huge news for the Chiefs, as Jared is arguably one of the better defensive ends in the NFL. More importantly, the reduction makes him available for both the home opener against the Vikes and the pivotal road match-up against the division rival San Diego Chargers on September 30. Maybe the league got such a big kick out of the signed DUI ticket that they decided to give Jared a break?

I would still like to have him for the first two, especially Chicago.

We all would, but I honestly think we have a better shot of knocking off San Diego. That will be our third road game, against a division rival we know well with a new coach. If there is a time to beat San Diego out there, it will be early on. Plus, their fans are nowhere near as rabid. In the past two years I’ve been to a preseason Bears home game and a regular season Chargers game. The Bears fans were much better, even though the game’s outcome was meaningless. We can win that fourth game.

Bears fans always will be better even if they were 0-16…
