Chiefs Fix: Hump Day News

  • Damn. The Oakland Raiders already staunch defense probably just became even better.

The Raiders signed Donovin Darius today, one of the hardest hitters in the NFL. Granted, Darius tore his ACL in ‘05 and broke his leg in ‘06, so he’s injury prone. When he is able to stay on the field, however, he’s a very dangerous player. In ‘04, or his last full season, Darius posted 61 tackles, five interceptions, seven pass deflections, four fumbles recovered and two fumbles forced.

Jacksonville fans would probably say he’s a lot like Greg Wesley, but I think he’s better. The guy is a very good tackler. When you play with good linebackers and probably the best set of defensive tackles in the league, yeah, 61 tackles is pretty impressive.

If he can stay on the field and out of the triage, this will be another ball-hawking, helmet-jarring Raider that Brodie Croyle and the Chiefs offense will have to account for two Sundays a season. – ESPN; Pro Football Reference

  • Skip Wood (which is kind of hard to do in the morning, really) thinks the Chiefs still have some weapons. – USA Today via Hashmarks

  • Scouts Inc. ranked the Chiefs WRs 29th overall. Ouch. And that’s with D-Bo. Here’s what was written about our receiving corps:

29. Kansas City Chiefs
With tight end Tony Gonzalez as their top receiving target, the Chiefs have gotten by with Eddie Kennison as their No. 1 wide receiver. But he simply is not good enough for such a role. Kansas City finally addressed this problem by selecting Dwayne Bowe in this year’s draft. Although he might never be a true No. 1 receiver, Bowe is super tough, big and strong. He will help the running game and should quickly become a starter. Samie Parker has not developed into a quality starter, but should be adequate out of the slot in subpackages. Bowe has promise, but overall, there isn’t a lot to get excited about here.”

What is with this contention that D-Bo can’t be a No. 1 receiver? I think he plays an awful lot like Anquan Boldin, Darrell Jackson, Hines Ward and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (amazingly, I don’t even have to look that up at this point). Those guys may not be Ocho Cinco or Terrell Owens, but to me, they all perform at a No. 1 WR level. – Scouts Inc/ESPN (must be an ESPN Insider)

  • The last Royal to get a hit in the All-Star game was Bo Jackson. My God. That was back in ‘89, before Michael Jordan had won any NBA championships and when King Carl’s tenure was still in its infancy. – Royals Review

  • The defense is definitely going to continue its improvement. – Warpaint Illustrated

That’s it for now.The last match-up of The COAT Chief Sixteen — D.T. v.s Montana — takes place this Friday. The Arrowhead Eight kicks off on Monday with Len Dawson taking on Otis Taylor.

This whole myth behind chiefs having poor receivers is very silly. Why is it that analysts and such think that  just because your not putting up big stats means your not a good receiver. People need to start looking at value not as a figure but more as what they do for their respective team. The reason chiefs Wr's dont put up big numbers is because they have always been a run orientated team. Its very differcult to find a balance that will provide for both receivers and backs to put up big numbers.  Heres something that i picked up from last season. This is why i beleived that Haurd had to play the rest of the season and the playoff games. Haurd was very good for the chiefs because he spread the ball around to all the chiefs receivers. Not just Kennison and gonzalez. (Greens problem) This is why we were winning, the opposing defences couldnt just zone in on our key weapons and shut us down. Thats why i like Haurd, he made our receiving corps look decent or even good. I could make refence to tom Brady. He has never had elite wide receivers but he still wins games. Thats what the chiefs need to do. Forget the Elite big play wide receivers and just concentrate on spreading the ball around and moving the chains. We differnetly have the talent now to do this. eg. Webb, Hannon, Eck, Bowe. This is why, ladies and gentleman, it is imparitive that we resign the Man-Beast Larry Johnson. He will provide a big threat and more importantly a big distraction to opposing defence's that we need in order to get our WR corps firing. He is the screws that hold together our engine.

your exactly right we need to sign him i was watching nfl live the other night and espn's sayin he could hold out until the middle of the season but idk i think if huard was in that playoff game it could have been alot different i mean tynes missing the chip shot and trent tripping down the score should have been either 23-15 or 23-16 and thats a whole new ballgame in my perspective.

  3. redbeard says:

people get real do any of you think we wont sign him…this is only a distraction to fans and media…lol the players dont think about it except lj…hahahahaha

  4. Chris says:

Last year I didn't have much confidence in our recievers. Every time it was 3rd and long, I knew we were screwed.

  5. kcchiefsfan56 says:

yea well sign him eventually he'll being playin aginst the texans kickoff weekend peterson knows w/o him well be lucky to win 5 games at the most

  6. redbeard says:

it will still depend on the O-line…I think we needed to draft a lineman …but oh well… the Chiefs seem to be saticfied with the people they have… hope they are right his time…LJ's numbers fell off last year…with a horrible line watch his sparks fly…     and with the Recievers I like ECK!!!!! and no draft pick for him.

  7. redbeard says:
