The Return of Whitlock?

by Chiefs

I’ve been extremely critical of Jason Whitlock recently, and rightfully so. Jabba has been wide right with everything Chiefs — from the draft, to the L.J. and Trent situations — for some time now. That changed, at least for one column, last Saturday.

Instead of focusing on his vendetta with King Carl or trying too hard to bring a unique point of view into the fold, Whitlock did what garnered our respect in the first place — he said the things that, deep down, Chiefs fans wanted to say themselves.

I totally agree with Whitlock and his contention that Priest Holmes is as likely to comeback as Adam Teicher’s hair. Let’s take a look at what I said about Priest back on May 6:

Priest Holmes is not coming back to play for the Kansas City Chiefs. Not this season. Not next season. Never.

I wish he was. Oh, how I wish he was. L.J. and Priest would make Baby Matrix and Deuce or Fred and MJD (no, not the blogger) look like chopped liver. Especially with D-Bo now in the house.

From reading Priest’s comments every six weeks or so, which is as often as we hear from him, there is most definitely some fear, some trepidation there as far as his long-term health is concerned. I just don’t think Priest feels comfortable risking his health, his family’s future, etc… I mean, what else does he have left to accomplish?

A Super Bowl. That’s it.

Winning a Super Bowl is not an obtainable goal for the Chiefs this season, and it hasn’t happened in Kansas City in nearly 40 years. Why would Priest risk his health, maybe even his life, for something that he has virtually no shot at accomplishing. Even for a player of his caliber, winning a Super Bowl would be out of his control. Winning a championship is truly a 53-man effort, and I’m not sure the Chiefs will have the other 52 guys needed during the next three or four years to help him win it all.

Whitlock was right — Priest already has a Super Bowl ring. What I actually meant, however, is Priest winning one on his own merit. He was a glorified ball boy on that team, riding Jamal and Ray Lewis’ coattails all the way to a ring. It doesn’t seem like another Super Bowl is a big deal to him, though. That makes sense considering Priest never relished the spotlight.

My favorite part of the piece is how Whitlock calls Priest out regarding the way he’s handled his contract. Now, Chiefs fans make Priest out to be Gandhi, Jesus and Mother Teresa all rolled into one. Even though he is a nice guy, we recently revealed that’s he’s by no means perfect. I love how Jabba busted his balls over the shrewd manner in which Team Priest has handled Priest’s contractual matters. It’s nice that someone other than yours truly is finally being honest about Priest being a little dishonest to keep all that cake.

Still, I’m glad that he’s doing what he’s doing. As expensive as it is to enter the confines of Arrowhead on gameday and watch our beloved Red, Chiefs fans deserve a show. Priest risked his physical well-being time after time to entertain us, and boy did he ever. Get paid, Priest! Let’s just stop making him out to be a Priest, err, Saint. OK?

The big question is: How long will it take for Whitlock to write a column about the Chiefs that’s ridiculously out of touch. My bet is two weeks. That’s all I’m giving him, and that’s mostly because he’s been somewhat inactive this offseason.

Honesty is a bitch sometimes, isn't it?

I hate to hand it to jabba, but he is right on the mark with this article.

thats ok but you didnt want us bringing up off the field stuff...so I guess its ok again?

Redbeard, we owe L.J. a lot of money already. C'mon. Roger Clemons makes $20-plus million a year as a pitcher and doesn't even always travel with his ballclub. L.J. sacrificed his body for the Chiefs last year and along with Jared, Tony and a few others, he willed us into the postseason, despite a shaky QB situation. And any time Whitlock writes, I pretty much respond. He's always big news in the Chiefs media circle.

And Chris, any time I can rip on Teicher I do. I'm just glad someone found it even mildly amusing.

and hey you aint suppossed to be bringing up off field stuff again *UNTIL AFTER THE VOTING IS DONE!!!!!*

hey HOLMES is a *GOD*....and I still say that neither of these two backs are our best ever.

ok so when Carl finally pays LJ and LJs number drop if the o-line isnt as good as we think it will be can we have LJ pay back his money???

"I totally agree with Whitlock and his contention that Priest Holmes is as likely to comeback as Adam Teicher’s hair."You got me again. I laughed out loud at this.

I have been saying it now for awhile Priest has only said that he intends or wish to comeback to collect the money. Am I mad at him for this? NO

He got paid basically what LJ is getting now before he got his extension and then got hurt. I think its completely fair on his part to collect what contract he signed, but why do CHIEFS FANS HAVE A DOUBLE STANDARD? I think most of us (75% according to Arrowhead Prides Poll) want LJ to get the money he deserves. I just dont understand why the other 25% would rather start Bennet or another 3rd string RB.
