Hopefully, this match-up will last a little longer than the last one.

A few things to remember about Otis Taylor:

  • When he retired he held almost every Kansas City Chiefs receiving record.

  • Twice topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a season.

  • Led the Chiefs in receptions (season) five times.

  • Made possibly the biggest play in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl IV victory — a physical, highlight reel-worthy 46-yard TD catch.

  • Was a three-time All-Star (AFL and NFL).

  • Len Dawson said the following about Taylor, “Otis made my job easy.” Those are strong words coming from the No. 1 seed in this entire tournament.

  • Only played for the Chiefs.

A few things to remember about Deron Cherry:

  • Was a six-time Pro Bowler.

  • Was a member of the NFL’s 1980s All-Decade Team.

  • Won the AFC interception title in ’86 with nine picks.

  • He led the Chiefs in tackles (season) four times and in interceptions (season) six times.

  • Posted six 100-tackle seasons.

  • Only played for the Chiefs.

Now The COAT really gets rolling. This one should come down to the wire.

ON DECK: 5. Tony Gonzalez vs. 12. Willie Roaf

Cherry was a bad ass runner... he hit like a full back... and covered man to man like a cornerback... on the other hand Otis was great in his own right...   he made those receptions before the rules changes...he had to fight for them... agism does work both ways... its true...

There's definitely a case for him. He made twice as many All-Star games and also made an All-Decade team, a feat Taylor never accomplished. It's not Cherry's fault the Chiefs weren't very good in the 80s. Agism works the other way too...

I really hope that Deron gets a little more love than Jack, oh I mean Jan, ;) did.
