Brodie Croyle is hotter than Hansel right now, and basically everyone but Damon Huard himself has penciled Brodie in as the Kansas City Chiefs starter. Seriously, Brodie is being discussed all over the place — The Herd (you have to be an ESPN Insider to hear the podcast), Ben Maller, Peter King’s Monday Morning QB, The K.C. Star (get a new graphics person… shit), Arrowhead Pride, Warpaint Illustrated, other blogs, etc…
Considering the buzz, I figured it was time for me to chime in with my stance on the QB controversy.
And my stance hasn’t changed. Unless Brodie decidedly beats Damon out this summer, I still think Herm Edwards has to go with Damon to start the season.
If Brodie starts the season out playing poorly the fans and media, myself included, will demand Damon. If Damon starts out hot as he did last year, then the Brodie Project waits another year or until we’re out of the playoff race. If Damon flops, then the Brodie Project gets going early on in the season. This just makes too much sense to me not to happen.
Damon has spent his whole career on the bench — he’ll have no quarrel with the demotion. Getting the yank would be a traumatic experience for Brodie, however, possibly one his career might never recover from.
Nonethless, I can all but guarantee that Brodie Croyle will be the opening-day starter, and it scares the hell outta me.
