*Disclaimer: If you are one of those half-Kansas City sports fans — you know, the kind that roots for the Chiefs in football, but the St. Louis Cardinals in baseball — you probably won’t want to read any further.
Believe it or not, our beloved Kansas City Royals have the chance to improve to 4-1 on the season against the hated Redbirds with a win tonight at Busch (aka Piss Water Beer) Stadium. Zach is actually there, and I’m proud to say that he’s decked out in blue. A win would also give the Royals the same amount of overall wins as their hated in-state rivals (30). A win would also make The Boys In Blue the winners of eight of 11 games, and four series in a row.
I absolutely f—ing hate, and excuse my French there, when Cardinals fans question why I would be a Royals fan. Because — WIN or LOSE!– I’m loyal. I guess fan loyalty is a concept many St. Louisans simply don’t understand. That’s OK; I still remember ‘85, and I’ll also enjoy the experience a helluva lot more when one of my Kansas City teams actually wins a ’ship.
(Don’t even get me started on the Lambs.)
For all of you true St. Louis fans out there (all five or six of you) — I apologize, I truly do. I suppose that growing up in Springfield, MO and going to K-State (in Kansas people love rooting for K-State football and KU basketball, which is complete and utter B.S. if you ask me), that I just got used to fair-weather fans.
For more coverage on our boys, pay the good people (or person, technically) over at Royals Review a visit or go to the live box score (here).

Down 5-1 in the 7th — I jinxed us. I still hate the Cards.
It's over.
I just want them to come up with a cap and profit sharing …not the crap they call it today…when the Royals won the championship and the surrounding years way before and only shortly after…(check the payrolls) we spent among the top five teams in Major league Baseball…after cable came nothing was done to keep the teams alive…then we had Miles Prentice who had and wanted to spend money, but no we cant sell to him…instead we get a money mongral who wont spend a penny…. so many players have gone through here it is a joke to me anymore…I'll bet money we dont spend money to keep any of the studs we jave now!!!! they will just let them go…then bring in more kids and say it's because of the small market…BULLSHIT.!!!!!
hey Adam or Z…I didnt put that link in the above comment…..just a heads up
Don't see it. Could have just been our ad service goofing. Thanks, though.
Tell ya what, bro, for a Kansan to root for both teams isn't THAT far-fetched. Hell, I do what you just described + love up on WSU baseball and FHSU… what do they do? Science camp? Perhaps if our state would throw out one team that could close the deal then I'd have a place to lean, but until then, I'm rooting for my home turf./ Good article though.// Cards eat my balls.-cw
I guess as someone who was born in K.C. and then had to move to Springfield, MO at a somewhat young age and deal with the city's rampant fair-weather fandom, it just chaps my ass. All the Chiefs fans here and in the Show-Me State that jumped on the Greatest Show on Turf's bandwagon just made me sick.
Also, as a K-State basketball fan (and ex-student) who suffered through both the Asbury and Woolridge years, it just sucks that some people root for KU basketball and K-State football. I know that's kind of the drill in the Sunflower State, but that doesn't mean I have to like it. And honestly, the two schools might flip-flop this year. The Cats are going to be a terror on the hardwood!
I just wish KU fans would root for their football team and K-State fans would do the same for basketball. I am a K-State Grad and I do have to admit it is usually my fellow Staters that like to "swing both ways." KU fans dont usually, as far as I know, root for K-State football. Well actually I dont think they root for any football but you get what I am saying.
And rooting for WSU in baseball makes sense cause they are good but still wouldnt it be like rooting for Miami in one thing, Florida in another and Florida State in another. No one does that in Florida, at least publicly. I think we in the Sunflower State need to look at rooting for all sports so we dont have to pick and choose.
sorry guys but MU is the only team we need to hear about………….tell me I'm a fair weather fan…lol my Tigers will beat both of those looser teams on the hardwood:)))))))))))
Mizzou sports is nothing to brag about.
hey I meant I am not a fair weather fan….and your comment replying to mine above…prooves I'm not…lol…hahahahahahaha
GOOOOOOOOOOOOO TIGERS!!!!!
They are my teams *And I'm sticking to it* …lol
I hate fair weather KSU/KU fans and KU fans that claim they cheer for K-State too and ask me why I dont cheer for KU, b/c I hate them thats’ why! I have cajones and refuse to support my rivals unless it helps the K-State cause.
