Being a back-up QB; or having the best job on the planet

by Chiefs

Casey Printers (photo credit: slam.canoe.ca)Late last night I read the new Casey Printers K.C. Star column and then this morning I found a link to this article on A.J. Feeley over at Hashmarks. What does this all mean? Nothing really; it just got me thinking that there isn’t a better job out there than back-up NFL quarterback.

Feeley said this about his cushy profession:

“For me, it’s like playing golf.”

Yeah, except you get paid over $1.5 mil to do it and women ogle you constantly because you’re an NFL QB. Plus, like Sam Donellon put it in his piece:

“You go home at night, every night, with nothing bruised or broken, needing not even a single Advil to get a good night’s rest.”

Man. Plus, you stay in fantastic shape, get to travel and amass top-notch contacts. Many back-up QBs, Jesse Palmer for example, land lucrative TV gigs after their playing days are over.

All of this is good news for Printers. We know your goals, Casey (if you don’t, here’s the biggest one):

“To best the best — period — at quarterback and in this league.”

Well, Casey, if you don’t end up being the next Brett Favre, or even the next Kurt Warner, at least there’s The Bachelor. I’m not hating, I’m just saying.

I like Printers and have absolutely nothing against him. Just because someone is a third stringer, especially at QB, doesn't mean he can't play. Look at what Quinn Gray came into Arrowhead and did last year off the bench.

At the same time, I hear him saying he strives to be the best player in the league when he has done absolutely nothing as of yet. He could be the next Warner or Steve Young (USFL... and that's a stretch), but he's got a long ways to go.

being in canada, i've seen printers play a bunch.  i was super pumped when i found out the chiefs picked him up.  unfortunately, he had a disappointing pre-season last year, but if he is starting to learn the nfl game better, he could be really, really good here too.  plus, he's only 26 and has time to get better.
